No "Select all" button in Catalog interface
by Menard.Jean-Francois＠hydro.qc.ca 16 Feb '01

16 Feb '01

The new features in the 2.2.3 user interface are great. Maybe it would be a good idea to add a "Select all" button in the Cataloged objects in Catalog. I noticed that just hitting the "update" button don't update all the cataloged objects automatically anymore. But checking 25 checkboxes is a little tedious in my opinion... Is there another way to update all cataloged objects without deleting and re-inserting all of them? Am I missing something?

Thanks Erik! Exactly what I was looking for. But a "Select all" button still would be great. Or even better, an entry form to ask for the reindexing of a certain mata-type object. Again, thanks! -----Message d'origine----- De : Erik Enge [mailto:erik+list@esol.no] Envoyé : vendredi 16 février 2001 14:00 À : Menard.Jean-Francois(a)hydro.qc.ca Cc : zope(a)zope.org Objet : Re: [Zope] No "Select all" button in Catalog interface [Menard Jean-Francois] | Is there another way to update all cataloged objects without deleting and | re-inserting all of them? ANNOUNCE: Call for Zopistas at O'Reilly OSCON
by Brian Lloyd 16 Feb '01

16 Feb '01

Hello all, I'm looking for some true believers who are planning to attend the O'Reilly Open Source Convention in San Diego this July and who would be interested in giving a Zope-related talk. The OSCON brings together geeks from all over the Open Source map, and this is a great opportunity to help get the word out about Zope (or your own Zope work). This is a crowd you can talk nuts and bolts with, so topics are pretty wide open. If you are interested and can give a firm commitment, please email me directly (brian(a)digicool.com) and let me know what you'd like to talk about and an approximate length. And if you need added incentive, I'll make sure that anyone who gives a talk leaves with some coveted Zope booty :^) Brian Lloyd brian(a)digicool.com Software Engineer 540.371.6909 Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com

strftime() vs. fmt()
by Peter Bengtsson 16 Feb '01

16 Feb '01

msg_display_format="%d/%m/%Y - %H:%M:%S" This works: <dtml-var "mysqtime2zopetime_py('20010216172030').strftime(msg_display_format)"> ==> 16/02/2001 - 17:20:30 This works: <dtml-var "mysqtime2zopetime_py('20010216172030')" fmt="%d/%m/%Y - %H:%M:%S"> ==> 16/02/2001 - 17:20:30 This does NOT work: <dtml-var "mysqtime2zopetime_py('20010216172030')" fmt=msg_display_format> I solved my problems by switching from fmt() to strftime(). Perhaps that helps other people. But what if I can't use strftime() and have to rely on fmt()? Peter

Strange TransactionError in ZODB
by Harald Koschinski 16 Feb '01

16 Feb '01

Hi, some times my zope 2.2.4 server gives the following error: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. TransactionError Sorry, a Zope error occurred. Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/opt/Zope/server/test2/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 222, in publish_module File /usr/local/opt/Zope/server/test2/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /usr/local/opt/Zope/server/test2/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 221, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: Traversable) File /usr/local/opt/Zope/server/test2/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 175, in publish File /usr/local/opt/Zope/server/test2/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 235, in commit File /usr/local/opt/Zope/server/test2/lib/python/ZODB/Transaction.py, line 208, in commit TransactionError: A serious error, which was probably a system error, occurred in a previous database transaction. This application may be in an invalid state and must be restarted before database updates can be allowed. Beware though that if the error was due to a serious system problem, such as a disk full condition, then the application may not come up until you deal with the system problem. See your application log for information on the error that lead to this problem. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the documentation I found: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZODB.Exceptions.StorageTransactionError Documentation This exception is raised if a storage method is called in an invalid state. Storages are required to raise this error under certain conditions. Applications should never encounter this exception unless there is a bug in ZODB or in a storage implementation. Concurrency sequential Persistence ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So it look´s like a serious error deep down in the ZODB transaction system. There are no problems on the OS (Linux 2.2.14), no disk full ... The error appears 2 times a week on a live running system with 100000 requests a day. When the error appears the only way to fix it, is to restart the server. Does anybody know the reason for this error? Is there a fix for it?? Is it fixed in Zope 2.3.x ?? Does DC know the problem, do they fix it? Any help is really appreciated. regards Harald _____________________________________________________________________ FRIATEC Aktiengesellschaft Informationssysteme und Organisation Tel. 0621 - 486 - 1454 Fax. 0621 - 486 - 1840 Steinzeugstrasse 50 mailto:harald.koschinski@friatec.de D-68229 Mannheim

best way to populate ZODB with ~11,000 folders?
by Kyler B. Laird 16 Feb '01

16 Feb '01

I'm trying to shove the University into Zope. I've got (~60K?) users handled and now I want to attack classes. We have a text file with roster data and an Oracle database of course info. My plan is to make a folder for every section of every course, and make objects or methods for every piece of data we have about each course (like "description" and "prerequisites") in these folders. This means I'll have paths like /courses/2001.1/AT/249/03/02 and that would have /courses/2001.1/AT/249/03/02/instructor even though the instructor might be acquired from a parent folder. So...my first step (late last night/early this morning) was to try to make folders for every section. We have 10,699 sections this semester, and I ran into some limits (like FastCGI timeout, then Netscape timeout, ...) in populating the ZODB. Before I just start kludging my way around this, I want to make sure there's not a better way. I'll be doing this every semester, so I want to do it well. Today I learned about XML-RPC. We're hard at work trying to get the HTTPS capability welded on to it. (We only use HTTPS for Zope.) It seems that it might be better to use this to populate the ZODB. Although I'd rather keep everything in Zope, I'm thinking I'd write a Python program that parses the text file and communicates with Oracle to get all of the data. As it's iterating over that data, it would shoot off XML-RPC transactions with Zope. There would be something on the order of 17,000 transactions. If I decide to handle rosters through the ZODB, there would be another 230,000 transactions. Is this a reasonable way to handle this? Am I going to kill the ZODB? Will I swamp it with transaction logs? I recall seeing that the ZODB isn't so great for writing. I'll be doing a lot of writing. We've used Oracle for everything, but I want so much to move completely to ZODB so that I can use ZEO. I'm willing to put in some extra effort to move down this path. Thank you. --kyler
