unexplained hang

I'm running Zope 2.1.6 on Solaris. I have a sudden, unexplained hang that doesn't seem to be tied to any modifications. The server will hang indefinitely, after throwing this error: 2001-02-19T01:17:11 ERROR(200) ZServer uncaptured python exception, closing channel <FCGIChannel connected 127.0.0.1:49676 at 8c3b88> (socket.error:(32, 'Broken pipe') [/opt/zope/ZServer/medusa/asynchat.py|initiate_send|211] [/opt/zope/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py|send|274]) But runs fine in debug mode. Any ideas?

CoreSessionTracking: Initializing a new berkeley storage

My goal is robust session storage, using CoreSessionTracking 0.7. I've got (all running on a single linux box): ZEO, providing two storages: 1. FileStorage (with the name 'main') 2. BerkelyStorage (named 'session') Zope 2.3.0: With a custom_zodb.py file, which uses a ClientStorage to connect to ZEO using the 'main' storage. External Method: Inside the Extensions directory of my Product directory, I've got a SessionMount.py, with a function that returns a ZODB.DB() on another ClientStorage talking to the same ZEO but using the 'session' storage. Now I try to add an External Method Mount. I give it the module ZSpoke.SessionMount (my product is named ZSpoke- this seems to work fine.) I set the function to createSessionDB(), also works. The path is set to /session_storage. This results in an error from MountPoint._getMountRoot: "No 'Application' object exists in the mountable database." So... Everything seems to work, but I'm very unsure :) One small problem I've noticed is the 'Data object timeout value in minutes' property on the Manage tab of the External Session Data Container is always 0, even if I try to change it. Anyone have any ideas, confirmation, I'm stupid, etc? Thanks! -Randy

breadcrumb navigation and ZUBB

Hello, I try to build a breadcrumb navigation root_folder : forum : Topic But with my code I get as forum title only the title I gave at its creation, when I call a method, e.g. search http://domain/forum/search will give root : forum : forum When I make search a DTML-Document (instead of DTML-Method) I get root : search : search And with any topic I get root : topic : topic : topic Does anybody know how to do this correct or where this error is coming from? Please find my code below. Dear Zopistas, the chapter "Basic Concepts" of my upcoming Zope book is ready for preview. It covers Zope site building objects, Web publishing, name lookup, DTML, site management and Zope security. You find it at URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html I consider it a valuable resource beside (and probably after) the official Zope book. It covers many of the questions that recur often in Zope's main mailing list. It is currently in a pre-alpha state. I know of the following problems: * lack of graphics to explain difficult concepts (such as DTML namespace, acquisition and Zope's security model) * many broken links If external links are broken, it was my lazyness. Broken internal links are caused by Python's XML processing tools not yet being fully up to process DocBook. * synopsis sections look very strange, caused by small bugs in Norman Walsh's DocBook stylesheets * lack of a stylesheet to improve presentation Dieter

We have found the official Zope animal: it is a fish that is rare but populated in whole europe. My First Tweak

Hi; I'm tweaking *Build a Searchable Job Board*. http://www.zope.org/Members/mukhsein/job_board_howto I need to create a pull-down list for those who want to enter data and those who want to select among entries. I want this pull-down list to obtain its elements from a foreign source (within Zope). Here are the particulars: Off the doc root (in Zope) there is a folder, let's call it *MyFirstFolder*. Within *MyFirstFolder is *Catalog*. Within *Catalog* is *entries*. Within *entries* is *entry_addForm*. In *entry_addForm* is the ZTML to be displayed, including where I would like to put my loop sequence to create a selection of options, pulling data from another file. This other file will be closer to the doc root, so acquisition *should* work, however... Within *Products* is *Classifieds*. Within *Classifieds* is *classifieds_entry*, which has a property sheet which has a method called *content_html* that references the variable referenced in *entry_addForm* that I need to turn into the aforementioned pull-down list obtained from the foreign source. Boy, I hope I've made that clear. Can you help? TIA, BenO

That depends on how you want it to interact with your application, I guess. But, as an easy way out, you could run the dirtyword-filter before you add the text to your objects. If you want to store all the words in ZCatalog you could just index a bunch of words (bad words, with meta_type set to 'bad_word') and do searches; (untested!) aString = 'lots and lots of angry-customer-bad-words' for word in string.split(aString, ' '): for catalog_brain in self.Catalog.searchResults(meta_type='bad_word'): bad_word = self.Catalog.getobject(catalog_brain['data_record_id_']) if word == bad_word: aString = string.replace(aString, word, '*bleep!*') return aString Add this as a Python Script in your Zope instance, make sure it can reach the ZCatalog (here named Catalog) by acquisition or directly, and call this script for every string that will be added to your objects. There are tons of caveats with this model. F ex, it doesn't catch up on words like 'b a d w o r d'. You could try to do something intelligent with it. Hm. Someone has probebly done this before you, in Perl or something, look at their algorithm. Another thing is that it is highly unoptimized, and could be slow (relatively speaking). If you want to use the stop-word list; lib/python/SearchIndex/Lexicon.py, line 128 (in Zope 2.2.1) has a method called set_stop_syn(), this might be what you want to use, although I wouldn't how to. On closer inspection I see that at the bottom of that file, a stop_words tuple is defined; a really, really ugly way to solve this would be to add your words there; around line 191. Also, to be really sophisticated (albeit, with a larger percentage change of also bleeping some words that shouldn't be bleeped; ie. they weren't bad words) you could use the soundex Python module. If you're doing this to remove stuff like the SCRIPT tag, REQUEST calls and those kind of things, I wouldn't recommend using soundex - obviously. Hope this helps!
