Re: [Zope] Including remote html-pages on a Zope server (with extracting of the title and body of the remote page)

You can have a look at SiteAccess and its AccessRules. In this context, you may also look at my little tool "Localizer": URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/Localizer.py It uses SiteAccess to provide localizations for a multi-lingual Web portal: Of cause, you want to have URL references independent from the respective language. "Localizer" makes this possible: It first looks at a language independent place. If it finds the necessary object there, it assumes it is language independant and delivers it. Otherwise, it looks at the place corresponding to the prefered language. If the object is there, it delivers it. Otherwise, it delivers the object in the default language or fails if it is not found. You recognize that this is quite similar to what you need. "Localizer" works for Zope 2.1.6, i.e. it is a bit out of time. It would need some rework for the current Zope 2.3 and SiteAccess2. But it might be an excellent example on how you can solve your problem. Dieter

Objects with such ids are more difficult to access in Python (not DTML) as the '.' is invalid in Python names. You cannot use "Attribute Access Syntax" (i.e. object.attribute) but need to use a function for access. You will not use any functionality but your code will look a bit uglier. > - the sites we are building will be multilingual answered by someone else... > A ZClass with customized DTML Documents and DTML Methods which have special > properties? The properties that come to mind at the moment are: > - Language > - Template (According to branch of site and language) > - Author > - Author email > - Publish (Yes or No) It is no problem to give the ZClass these additional properties. It is no problem, too, to give it to DTML Documents; DTML Methods, however, are no property managers. > One concern for example is the multilingualism of breadcrumbs and site maps > (we want them to be dynamically generated). I can not give you a solution by now. We want to explore this (and other automatic web grafic generation) in a diploma thesis, starting later this year. We will look into PIL (Python Image Library), ZGDChart and Corel automation. If you find a solution, please let me know. > -Security - any tips on security? Where do I watch for security problems > with zope? It would be very weak, if you protect sensitive folders just be not displaying them! Use Zope security to restrict access to sensitive objects. The "dtml-tree" has an attribute "skip_unauthorized" that lets you display just the parts of the structure that the current visitor has access rights to. > Anyone have good ideas or experience? We are building a multi-lingual site. I think, you can go ahead with Zope into this area. > P.S. I would expect, the project specific consultancy will cost something. Dieter

This is much more difficult. You could try to override the ZClass' delete and rename methods. The problem will be how to access the original methods when you want to operate on non-special objects. This has been asked several times in the mailing lists (mostly zope-dev, maybe zope, too). But I cannot remember a solution. Dieter

It is: After ZPublisher located the object to be published and therefore knows the required roles, it goes back on its tracks to find a user folder that can authenticate a user with one of the required roles. Superuser is handled specially. Dieter

So you think that ab is good for Zope too? What about stress testing Obtree? Would ab be a good stress tester too? -goe- _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Yeah, Thanks for all the info. You know uninformed implies more paranoid! Anyway, I guess by the time my ZODB fills up, we'll be using Windows XP 10e23 and it'll probably be the only thing left alive - because by then MS Wreck-A-Nice-Beach (recognize-speech) technology would've rendered CTRL-ALT-DEL keyboards obsolete) in the universe :-) V.Satheesh Babu Web Technologies Group, (703)-841-5348 sbabu(a)tnc.org The Nature Conservancy http://www.tnc.org http://vsbabu.csoft.net "The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on." --- Jone's Law - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Original Message - - - - - - - - - - - - - - From: "Tres Seaver" <tseaver(a)digicool.com> Subject: Re: [Zope] How many objects can ZODB hold? Zope's OID uses 64-bit integers; by my calculations, that would cause a really high-write site to run out of OIDs sometime after the heat-death of the universe :) Tres. -- =============================================================== Tres Seaver tseaver(a)digicool.com Digital Creations "Zope Dealers" http://www.zope.org

PyGreSQLDA vs ZPoPyDA
by Felipe E. Barousse Boue 17 Feb '01

17 Feb '01

Hi: Would like to request your comments on opinions on installing PyGreSQLDA or ZPoPyDA on a Zope 2.3.x with PostreSQL 7.0.3 I know PoPy is threaded while PyGres is not, but what you can tell about stability, reliability, etc.? Perfomance must be obviously in favor of PoPy, any comments on this as well? Thanks in advance. Felipe Barousse Piensa Technology Bufete Consultor de México
