Simple problem (probably)...

I am new to Zope and attempting to use an external method as described in the zope book, unfortunately I keep getting the following error: Traceback (innermost last): File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 222, in publish_module File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 187, in publish File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\Zope\__init__.py, line 221, in zpublisher_exception_hook File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 171, in publish File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: manage_addExternalMethod) File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: manage_addExternalMethod) File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\Products\ExternalMethod\ExternalMethod.py, line 131, in manage_addExternalMethod File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\Products\ExternalMethod\ExternalMethod.py, line 179, in __init__ (Object: hello) File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\Products\ExternalMethod\ExternalMethod.py, line 202, in manage_edit (Object: hello) File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\Products\ExternalMethod\ExternalMethod.py, line 209, in getFunction (Object: hello) File E:\AWPROS~1\lib\python\App\Extensions.py, line 217, in getObject (Info: ('E:\\awprosite\\Extensions\\Example.py', 'Example')) SyntaxError: (see above) The extension is indeed named "Example.py" and the method is the example from the book: def hello(name='world') return "Hello %s" % name I'm using Zope 2.3 on Windows NT. Any ideas? Thanks, Jason Jones

RE: [Zope] ZClasses and automatic sub-objects

Yes, it is possible. I do it all day. My lines in the constructor are as follows: <dtml-call expr="propertysheets.StreamingEventProperties.manage_editProperties(REQUEST) "> <dtml-call expr="manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addFolder('logs', 'Log Files')"> <dtml-call expr="manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addFolder('analysis', 'Log File Analysis')"> If I may, I'll piggyback on your question. I have an ObjectManager derived ZClass. It has a folder 'logs' as above. Is it possible to Catalog the contents ('data') of a DTML method contained therein? -----Original Message----- From: Tim Moore [mailto:tmoore@tembel.org] Sent: Thursday, February 15, 2001 4:17 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] ZClasses and automatic sub-objects I have an ObjectManager-derived ZClass. I would like all instances of this ZClass to have a subobject added to them automatically at creation time. This subobject has a fixed id in each instance (in this case, I want to add Image objects with an id of "logo"). Preferably, this object would a permanent part of each instance...you wouldn't be able to delete or rename it in any instance, but you would be able to edit it (e.g., upload image data). So, essentially it would act analogously to a property sheet. Is this even possible? I asked this question a couple of weeks ago and never got a response. -- Tim Moore _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

ANNOUNCE: Zope 2.3.1 beta 1 released...
by Brian Lloyd 15 Feb '01

15 Feb '01

Hello all, Zope 2.3.1 beta 1 has been released - you can download it from Zope.org: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.1b1/ Zope 2.3.1b1 fixes a number of issues that have come up through usage of 2.3.0, as well as some previously reported issues from the Zope bug collector. For more information on what is new in this release, see the CHANGES.txt and HISTORY.txt files for the release: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.1b1/CHANGES.txt http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.1b1/HISTORY.txt Note that we have also posted "diff" updates as .tgz files that will let you easily upgrade an existing 2.3.x site. These updates are available for those currently using the 2.3.x source release or the 2.3.x binary releases. To apply a differential update to your site: - download the appropriate .tgz file from zope.org - shutdown your Zope process - copy the .tgz to your Zope directory and extract it - run w_pcgi or wo_pcgi *if you are not using a binary release* - restart your process Brian Lloyd brian(a)digicool.com Software Engineer 540.371.6909 Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com

Zope will not see the '.'. It is inside a Python string. > the last because i don't find the an example how to use find right. "find" returns the index, the string is found at; "-1" if the string is not found. Thus, you want something like "find(...) >= 0". Be careful, however! It is not garanteed that "error_value" will be a string (in general). It might well be an instance, then "find" will raise a "TypeError". Dieter

You have two options. The first will definitely work, the second may or may not (tell us!): 1. <dtml-var "_.render(_.getattr(_.getitem('reports'),'overview'))"> of cause, this may become <dtml-var "_.render(reports.overview)"> as the components are constant. 2. <dtml-var "_.render(restrictedTraverse('reports/overview')"> Dieter

making zope talk to mysql
by Joe Hewitt 15 Feb '01

15 Feb '01

I' ve been using zope for a while, but the single greatest frustration is installing new zope servers with mysql support. I've written to Andy Dustman, maintainer of MySQLdb and ZMySQLDA, who was kind enough to provide the usual boilerplate answers which will not work. So I'm back on the zope list asking about success stories. As everyone knows there are at least two different mysql modules. My last linux success was with MySQLdb-0.1.1 and ZMySQLDA-1.1.3 on Zope 2.1.2 and it's working okay. I've installed the DA on a windows machine successfully. I need to be able to install the latest versions of MySQL, Zope, Python, MySQLdb, and ZMySQLDA. The zope website has a couple of write-ups. I believe that I used the one written by alanpog to perform my last success. If you have installed the most recent zope with mysql support using python 2.0 on a mandrake 7.2 box in the past few weeks, I want to know how you did. I'm poor, but am reluctantly willing to pay a few bucks to the first couple of answers that work for me. Of course, all ideas will be tried; good ones will be rewarded. I'm tired of reintalling these products. Thanks, Joe Hewitt

dbmstorage status
by Gerald Gutierrez 15 Feb '01

15 Feb '01

Where can I find some status information regarding the storage interface that allows ZODB to be backed by an SQL database (called dbmstorage I believe)? I understand that there is an oraclestorage and there is a BerkeleyStorage, but these are specific to Oracle and bdb, respectively. If it must be database specific, perhaps a PostgreSQL specific one :) Thanks.
