Need zope sales training :)

Hello folks, We have a project being discussed here at work where I think zope would fit nicely. I explained my thoughts on how zope fits to the project manager and all I got for my efforts was a blank stare. Obviously some miscommunication. The project is a resume "database". The user would upload resumes into a database, with some additional fields for other information related to the person. The resumes and additional fields would be searchable. The user thought it would be very interesting for them if the resumes, searching, etc were available over the Web so that field offices could access them. My thought is that this would be perfect for zope using zcatalog. Now I haven't done any work with zcatalog but it sure seems like a perfect fit. Am I on the right track here? What points can I bring to bear? Thanks for any advice -------------------------------------------- Tom Jenkins |<xml>Its devIS - Development InfoStructure |all you 703.525.6485 tjenkins(a)devis.com |need it http://www.devis.com |to be</xml>

Zope memory usage / cache
by Ron Bickers 31 Jan '01

I have a site that has dozens of 300k+ Photo objects (http://www.zope.org/Members/Drew/Photo) When I start Zope, it uses about 10MB. It will run at around 10-12MB for days as long as I don't access any of the photos. Once I access several of the photos, it jumps up to around 50MB. The debug info says there are over 200 Photo object references. If I then do a Cache minimize, there are no longer any Photo object references, but the memory usage remains 50MB. It will stay that high indefinitely (at least as long as I have tested -- a few days), even if the site isn't accessed. If I restart, it goes back down to 10MB, and it will stay there as long as my photos aren't accessed. Is this normal behavior? It seems crazy to have Zope sucking up that much memory when those photos are hardly ever accessed. _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc. rbickers(a)logicetc.com

Loading ZMySQLda on Solaris 7
by Lee Marzke 31 Jan '01

Hi, After having no problems at all with Zope 2.3, and Mysql on Linux RedHad6.1 I tried getting this to work on a Solaris 7 SPARC machine with no luck. Im using: Solaris 7 (SunOS 5.7 ) GCC 2.95.1 Zope 2.3.0 ZMySQLDA 1.2 MySQL 3.22.32 compiled from source Python 1.5.2, Python 1.6, Python2.0 all compiled with thread support. When I try to load a ZMySQL object in Zope I keep getting the following error: Any ideas? Thanks, ImportError: ld.so.1: python: fatal: relocation error: file /sw/scm/usr/lib/python1.5/site-packages/_mysql.so: symbol PyTuple_New: referenced symbol not found Traceback (innermost last): File "/sw/scm/usr/Zope-2.3.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/OFS/Application.py", line 530, in import_products product=__import__(pname, global_dict, global_dict, silly) File "/sw/scm/usr/Zope-2.3.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/Products/ZMySQLDA/__init__. py", line 106, in ? import sys, os, Globals, DA File "/sw/scm/usr/Zope-2.3.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/Products/ZMySQLDA/DA.py", line 108, in ? from db import DB File "/usr/share/zope/lib/python/Products/ZMySQLDA/db.py", line 106, in ? 2.3 PythonScripts problem...
by Curtis Maloney 31 Jan '01

31 Jan '01

Greetings, I have just made a nice fresh Zope 2.3 install, and am having an odd problem with PythonScripts. I add one from the management screen, enter the name, "add and edit", enter the code, the hit "save". Which dumps me to my index_html. If I try to go back and edit the method, I go straight to my index_html, with no management tabs or the like. This is a plain vanilla source install of Zope 2.3.0, on a RedHat box, with Zope 1.5.2, and ZMySQLDA 1.2.0, and CookieLess Sessions 0.0.5b installed. Any ideas? Have a better one, Curtis Maloney

"_save_File" gets a Zope object (the Implicit...Wrapper) where it expects a string (the read-only ... buffer). Dieter

Many operating systems do not support the release of memory that is no longer used: it keeps to be associated with the application that requested it originally. This application can recycle the unused memory, but other applications can not. Dieter

Maybe, you get it from an unexpected object. Dieter

Re: [Zope] Rational Continous sourcecontrol with Zope??

peter bengtson writes: > ... using source control system with Zope ... There is CVSmixin. It is a product that lets Zope play well with CVS, the concurrent version system, a free, open source source control system. I think, the product could be trimmed to work with "Continuous". But, you would need to work on it. Alternatively, you can use CVS in place of "Continuous". Dieter

Re: [Zope] how to get access to Python's md5 module

Search the list archives (zope and zope-dev) for details. Dieter
