Strange behaviour after server change
by Stephan Goeldi 31 Jan '01

31 Jan '01

Our old web server contained Zope 2.2.4 and 8 different Domains. I installed Zope 2.2.5 on the new server. Then I made an export of the whole directory, containing the subdirectories of the virtual domains. On the new server (2.2.5) I made an import of this zexp. The tree now exists in the 2.2.5-Version. There were some objects, which showed a ? because some Products were not installed on the new server. I could delete those objects without problem. The ISP made the necessary changes on the DNS (he had to change only the last part of the IP adress, our new server is in the same network). When I ping to the domain names, everything is okay, the new IP number is showing up. When I call some of the domain names, the Zope-websites only show up, if Zope on the OLD server is running. I don't understand what went wrong. Some of the domains work ok, some not. Another domain which I transferred using FTP works ok too. I already made a cache flush with no results. I even restarted both servers. What was going wrong? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

how to get access to Python's md5 module
by Fred Yankowski 31 Jan '01

31 Jan '01

I want to use MD5 encoding to encrypt passwords stored for use with LoginManager. The standard 'md5' Python module/library is just what I need, but I can't seem to import it from a Python Method or Script. Are imports limited to External Methods and Products only? -- Fred Yankowski fred(a)OntoSys.com tel: +1.630.879.1312 Principal Consultant www.OntoSys.com fax: +1.630.879.1370 OntoSys, Inc 38W242 Deerpath Rd, Batavia, IL 60510, USA

orphan handling/sequence-size bug?
by Olaf Zanger 31 Jan '01

31 Jan '01

hi there, we take the sequence-size as seq_size for a dtml-in statement from a formular with 'get' (as shown in DTML.html under batch processing) (<dtml-in rep.sql size=seq_size start=query_start>) if the seq_size is 2 and larger there is no trouble, if it is 1 (&seq_size=1&query_start=2) 'next-sequence' does not exist in the second batch. therfore it doesn't show a next-batch-link in the second batch. seems to be a problem with the orphan handling thanks olaf -- soli-con Engineering Zanger Dipl.-Ing. Error defining permissions in ZClass in Zop3-2.3
by Klaus Woelfel 31 Jan '01

31 Jan '01

When I want to define a permission a ZClass or a folder in a ZClass with the management - Interface in Zope 2.3, I alwasy get the following error message: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: too many arguments; expected 2, got 3 When I did exactly the same thing under the same circumstances in Zope-2.2.5, it worked fine. Because of this error, it's now impossible to access a dtml-method in a folder in a ZClassby an object of this ZClass. Has anybody an indea what I'm might doing wrong, or what has changed in 2.3 that I have to do it differently an how? Or ist this simply a bug? Thanks, Klaus

CoreSessionTracking timeout
by Oliver Vecernik 31 Jan '01

31 Jan '01

Hi, I am playing around with this great product and (nearly) all works as expected. This is exactly what I need for my application and you guys are saving a lot of time for me! Thank you. The only thing I don't understand is the timeout of session_data_manager. If I test the example given in the help I expect 'Before change:' to be empty if called the first time (works) and filled for each subsequent call (works also). If timeout expires I expect 'Before change:' to be empty again, thus generating a new token. But it isn't. It still uses the old token. What's going on? I tested with cookies and form vars namespace, but it has always the same behaviour. What's the quirk? Oliver

Hi all, I'd like to write an http client for an embedded system to get information from Zope. For debugging I want to see the traffic between the client and Zope (http protocol). How can this be achieved? Oliver

Need zope sales training :)
by Tom Jenkins 31 Jan '01

31 Jan '01

Hello folks, We have a project being discussed here at work where I think zope would fit nicely. I explained my thoughts on how zope fits to the project manager and all I got for my efforts was a blank stare. Obviously some miscommunication. The project is a resume "database". The user would upload resumes into a database, with some additional fields for other information related to the person. The resumes and additional fields would be searchable. The user thought it would be very interesting for them if the resumes, searching, etc were available over the Web so that field offices could access them. My thought is that this would be perfect for zope using zcatalog. Now I haven't done any work with zcatalog but it sure seems like a perfect fit. Am I on the right track here? What points can I bring to bear? Thanks for any advice -------------------------------------------- Tom Jenkins |<xml>Its devIS - Development InfoStructure |all you 703.525.6485 tjenkins(a)devis.com |need it http://www.devis.com |to be</xml>
