Any idea where one can find WorldPilot these days? Looking at www.worldpilot.org takes you to N&H's site where they'll sell a box running it but I was curious if there are any updtates to just the software? Josh

This allows it to bind to privileged ports (ports with numbers < 1024) There is a parameter to "start" ("z2.py"), that lets you specify the HTTP port (I think, -w). Thus, try: start -w 80 After binding, Zope will switch personality to the user specified during installation. Thus, the web requests are not executed as root. 2. You run Zope behind another Web Server, such as e.g. Apache. There are HowTo's at zope.org, that detail what you must do. Dieter

They are not *THAT* bad. All file descriptors are already closed, when the process enters the Zombie state. The only resource, it still helds, is the process resource. There is a per user limit and a system wide limit on process resources. Thus, if there are too many Zombies, you will no longer be able to create new processes. > And they > are said to stay around until the process that created them dies itself. Unix is a social operating system: parents have responsibilities towards their offspring. Zombies are the children of bad, unsocial parents. They disappear, when either the parent dies itself (they are then reparented to a social parent) or the parent finally fulfills its obligations. What Unix requires from a parent is, that it is interested at least in the childs death. The parent shows this interest by calling the wait system call ("os.wait"). Usually, the parent blocks until a child dies. But "wait" can be called with a non-blocking parameter. Dieter

Reality check PYZOMA = python / zope for Mac ?
by Jason Cunliffe 21 Dec '00

Hello I am wondering what the prospects are for Python and Zope on Macintosh: Is the mac getting left behind or will the new MacOSX in fact bring Python adn Zope more easily into the fold? I am quite concerned that projects planned for Python and Zope will not be in fact be usable on Macs.. What are the realistic prospects during the next 6-12 months do you think? Does anybody even care anymore? Thanks for any opinions and links.. brief searching for Python and has been a frustrating and confusing experience - Jason ___________________________________________________________ Jason CUNLIFFE = NOMADICS['Interactive Art and Technology']

RE: [Zope] LoginManager - logging out
by Chalu Kim 21 Dec '00

21 Dec '00

No, you are right. It does not work. It is because LM's default login method is Basic. Basic logout does not work because of Basic authentication and that the browser caches the credential. This means unless you shut down your browser, whatever you do, you are back to square one. The remedy is to change your login method to Cookie so that AUTHENTICATED_USER.logout() works. Good luck. http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2000-December/037253.html

Precompiled w/Apache?
by Rick Munday 21 Dec '00

21 Dec '00

I thought I read where there is a tar ball with Zope and Apache precompiled to work together without Zserver? I'm on a deadline to get the demo project up and going, and not having to go through half a day of compiling this and that would be awesome. Any Ideas? Rick
