Chris McDonough identified a persistence problem with the routine(s) that manage sessions variables. (Thanks Chris) I have put the correction in place which resolved some (but not all) of the problems. There are still problems which are apparently due conflicts in accessing the session variables. To minimize frequency of conflicts, I am rewriting several routines using Dieter's rules of the thumb (Thanks Dieter). One routine being modified is a Script(Python) that initializes a number of session variables. I am collecting the session values in a dictionary and then use update to set their value, for example: s = {} s['alpha'] = 'a' s['beta'] = 'b' request['SESSION'].update(s) Is the persistence machinery smart enough to detect this as a change? I suspect that it has to be flagged since the assignment won't be seen. Usually this means setting the _p_changed=1 attribute, but it is not clear to me where to set it in this particular context. --

ERROR BeforeTraverse Error while invoking hook

Hi! After upgrading our Zope instances from Zope 2.7.2 to 2.8.4 we've noticed new kind of errors in event.log on one of our servers. Error is as follows: 2005-12-19T07:53:59 ERROR BeforeTraverse Error while invoking hook: "input" Traceback (most recent call last): File "/opt/Zope/2.8.4/lib/python/ZPublisher/BeforeTraverse.py", line 144, in __call__ meth(*(container, request, None)[:args]) AttributeError: __call__ I've looked into BeforeTraverse.py and I see this error is only logged to event.log and is not visible to the users, and it seems to me that it is something with acquisition(?) I need some hints how to find what causes this error - what has changed in 2.8.x and how to deal with this? Our application is written in ZODB not in products. There is a folder named 'input' in it, may it be the problem? -- Maciej Wisniowski

Can't pickle objects in acquisition wrappers

Greetings Zopistas! I'm returning to Zope after about a year away and am working on a project that i have pieced together over about 4 years. I recently deployed this project (a family history web site) under a zope 2.7.x install (it used to run on a 2.4.x install) and now I can't seem to update any of my objects. when i try to save them, I get a TypeError: Can't pickle objects in acquisition wrappers. I was never more than a dabbler, so I can't really claim to fully grok what acquisition wrappers are, other than being a construct that allows me to refer to an object in a request without knowing exactly where it is (ie is it a request parameter, a member of my object etc). Googling for this message yields very little information and grepping the source code yields one nondescript (at least to me) line in _Acquisition.c . Does anyone understand what this error means? Does anyone have any ideas on how to tell what "acquisition wrapper" i'm saving? Is there a way for me to workaround this? Many thanks, Keith R. Alperin

SQL transaction uncommited?

Hi, in ZopeBook I read that Zope's transaction are tied to SQL backend's ones. I do not know whether this applies to ZSQL methods only, but I do not expect it. I got this table: CREATE TABLE testtable ( id serial, -- uses its own sequence n int4 ); I use PostgreSQL and I have psql (an interactive SQL processor) opened and I'm watching the testtable and its primary key sequence object. I'm writing a product tool and I test the SQL connection with the following code: def manage_afterAdd(self, item, container): if item is self: self.db = getattr(self,MY_CONNECTION_ID)._v_database_connection def qry(self, query): results = self.db.query(query) recs = { 'names': Results(results).names(), 'tuples': Results(results).tuples() } return recs def test0(self): self.qry('insert into testtable (n) values (10)') def test1(self): self.qry('insert into testtable (n) values (10)') self.db.commit() def test2(self): self.qry('insert into testtable (n) values (10)') self.qry('commit') def test3(self): self.qry('insert into testtable (n) values (10)') return self.qry('select * from testtable') def test4(self): self.qry('insert into testtable (n) values (10); commit') def test5(self): self.qry('insert into testtable (n) values (10); commit') return self.qry('select * from testtable') When I call test0,1,2,3 -- the inserted row is not visible in psql, but the sequence is incremented! I'm afraid there is some pending transaction I cannot reach at that moment anymore. The test4,5 properly add the row to table (and increment the seq of course) as I can watch via psql immediatelly. In test3 the returned result does not contain the new row, in test5 the new row is contained in select. What am I doing wrong and how must I arrange it not need to care about transactions at all? I expected the SQL transactions are transparent in Zope and they are either commited when the webbrowser gets the no-exception response and rolled back otherwise. zope and LDAP for authorisation

Hi, I'm looking for a zope product that enables me to use our Active Directory LDAP server for verification of login credentials only. I want users still stored in Zope, and access to directories should be also something I can handle in Zope, and I don't want to use LDAP groups because I don't control the LDAP server and there are no groups on the LDAP server I can use. So really, all I want is that Zope checks the passwords with the LDAP server instead of with it's own userfolder. And perhaps, a possibility to check/search for the available loginnames on the LDAP server when adding a user to the userfolder. I've checked out LDAPUserFolder but that's not what I'm looking for (I think...). Does anyone know whether there is such a product, or give me some poiners to adapt an exisiting product to my needs? batching help

Hello all , I'm trying to display on the same page a table with (3 columns) with content from a list . I'm trying to batch the results so that every 3 elements anothe row is created.
