newbie question about input box for sql method
by Charlie Derr 09 May '00

09 May '00

Hi all, I've followed the Z SQL Method instructions and built a simple interface to a database. I have an input form with four text-input boxes. The values entered into the four input boxes get INSERTed as a database record when the submit button is clicked. I want to change one of those text-input boxes into a selection box -- limiting the user to a dozen or so predefined values (which would be selectable from a menu that appears on the box when you click on it). From the way the Z SQL Method is used in zope, it almost looks like i might have to go into it (SQL.py) and set things up the way I want. Is this right? Is there a better solution? Thanx much in advance, ~c

Zope Banner Ad
by Michael Bernstein 09 May '00

09 May '00

Well, it looks like Linux.com has redesigned their site and the banner ads need to be smaller than they used to be. The Zope banner is currently not being displayed as a result. Rather than simply redesign the banner ad I had created before (http://www.zope.org/Members/webmaven/banner-pr) for a new format, I thought I'd re-open the floor to new suggestions for what should go into the banner. If a consensus emerges, I'll create the banner and after DC aproves it, I'll send it to Linux.com for inclusion in their community banner system. If no consensus emerges, I'll just be autocratic and do whatever I want. ;-) So, let the suggestions roll in! Michael Bernstein.

You can't use these methods in the folder for this. You need to add a so-called UserFolder. Add it by using the following dtml-command: manage_addUserFolder() then by <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('name', '<newname>')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('password', '<pwrd>')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('confirm', '<pwrd>')"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('roles', ['<desiredRole>', ...])"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('domains', ['<desiredDomain>', ...])"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('submit', 'Add')"> <dtml-call "acl_users.manage_users(submit='Add', REQUEST=REQUEST )"> you add a user. HELP on PIL!
by Stephan Richter 09 May '00

09 May '00

Hey guys, I just played with PIL on Zope. I used the Poll product to see how it basically works. But now I have the problem that I can't load an Image because there is a module in /App called ImageFile and one in /PIL called ImageFile. Well when I say Image.open(), it always goes to /App/ImageFile.py and not to /PIL/ImageFile.py. Any suggestions how I can fix that? regards, Stephan -- Stephan Richter - (901) 573-3308 - srichter(a)cbu.edu CBU - Physics & Chemistry; Framework Web - Web Design & Development PGP Key: 735E C61E 5C64 F430 4F9C 798E DCA2 07E3 E42B 5391

Method in subfolder cannot be shown
by Peer Dicken 09 May '00

Hi, I´ve got a problem on my Zope-Installation: There´s a siteroot /www.big-boenen.de with a subfolder called "mod". In there I´ve placed a method "big-infos" which I want to call from /index_html. This does not work. I´m getting an key error. What confuses me: At home on my W2K machine this works, but at work on the linux box it does not. Whats wrong here? Authentication with Apache problems
by Speedy Gonzales 09 May '00

09 May '00

Hi Zopers. After about 2 hours of having to re-compile python --with-threads and re-compiling apache to include the mod_rewrite module, i'm almost there! I can now go to /cgi-bin/Zope.cgi/manage and it asks me for a login and password. I type in "superuser" as login and my superuser password given by the install script and it just keeps asking for a password. I have added the Rewrite lines that come with WEBSERVER.txt and no luck. My system is FreeBSD 3.0, running apache 1.3.9 and python 1.5.2. If you require any other information from me, please let me know.. I'm very keen to fix this problem :) Regards, Gonzalo. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Is is implemented e.g. through the apache web server, IMHO the mechanism is called content negotiation, but I'm not sure. It would be nice, if Zope would support this feature from the main source. Python Classes vs. ZClasses
by Eric L. Walstad 09 May '00

09 May '00

Hi All, I'm setting out on my first "real" Zope Application and am trying to figure out ahead of time which is best for my situation: Python Classes or ZClasses (or maybe both or maybe neither!?). - The objects will need to be able to read/write records from/to a MySQL database as well as write to a text file on the server (the text file will be used as input to an existing C++ App). - The user will need to have the ability to create new objects (and therefore new DB records) from the web interface as well as enter data to fill the objects' properties. - The root (top of the object hierarchy) will need a method that will call a C++ app on the server and retrieve the results of this call, which will then be displayed to the user in a web page. I've experimented with using Zope with MySQL, which is great, but I need to set up an object hierarchy which can be encapsulated into a Zope Product or some such thing. Here are a few questions that come to mind: 1. Do I need to create a Zope-ish hierarchy and just copy the data into the MySQL db? 2. Is there a way to tie MySQL records into Zope or Python objects so that I don't have to duplicate data between Data.fs and MySQL? 3. If so, what is the technology called so I can start studying it? I feel like this is probably a common hurdle that most of you have already cleared. I've got the general specification clear in my head (and on paper), but I need some guidance on the best implementation. As usual, any leads are greatly appreciated. TIA, Eric.

Are there any benchmarks comparing these three databases, or maybe to somewhat similar comparing against the same database? Anyone got anything to say about the various ones, pros, cons, etc.? -Morten ------------------------------------------------------------- How to reply to email: http://home.sol.no/~vidaandr/news/OBSquoting.html (norsk) http://home.sol.no/~vidaandr/news/FAQquoting.html (english) Who is the bigger fool?
