zope on isp

This isn't really an answer to your question, but if you don't mind (a) handing off this problem and (b) using a US web hosting provider, check out www.codeit.com. They know all about Zope and Apache and I'm really happy running our little site on their setup. I think zope.org runs on their server, too? Standard disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with codeit, except as a customer, but they slip me a C-note every time I mention their name (or do I have to pay them? i can't remember! (secondary disclaimer: I'm kidding)) Original message snip: I have Zope set up running under NT alongside IIS and AOLserver3. Works fine as I have complete control and admin rights. I would like to set up Zope on my ISP. I have access to the cgi-bin directory, can run python (and TCL). So how do you setup Zope? The ISP is using Redhat Linux 6.1 and an Apache web server. Tried using the source and compiling - no joy error about compiling rights. Tried using a precompiled version for Linux. The install seemed to work.

ZOracleDA and floats?
by Mike Salib 04 May '00

04 May '00

Hi, We're running Zope 2.1.6 and we've been having trouble using ZOracleDA with Zope. Specificaly, whenever we try to retrieve floating point information from the database, it comes back as integer data. In other words, ZOracleDA (actually, DCOracle - we've verified that just by checking using DCOracle from the comand line) translates all floating point values into ints, throwing away the fractional part. Has anyone seen this before? A quick way to test this is to run the following query against oracle: select count(*)/10.0 from tab This should return something like 9.5 or 7.5. If you get an integer, then you know something is wrong. Thanks a lot everyone, Mike Salib

mod_fastcgi warning: beware the -idle-timeout !!
by Anthony Baxter 04 May '00

04 May '00

An unpleasant discovery today was the magic -idle-timeout option in mod_fastcgi. It defaults to 30 seconds - this means that any page that takes longer than 30 seconds to return won't be seen by the user, as Apache will have given up and shown an error page. mmmm, goood. Anthony

getpath gives wrong path

hi, i've been working with the ZCatalog and found a puzzling problem. i used this in the report page: <td><a href=""><dtml-var title></a></td> and when i tested it on my local install of Zope it works fine, but when i recreated the catalog/search on the webserver it broke. instead of creating a link like this: <a href="http://mycompany.net/zope_top_dir/subfolder/filename"> it leaves out the top level directory from the path: <a href="http://mycompany.net/subfolder/filename"> maybe it's a simple thing but i can't find why it works on my NT workstation and not on the Linux webserver. i didn't change anything significant when i recreated the report page. please help, this is very frustrating. thanks in advance! -<mike>-

More Zope Benchmarks w/ New Code
by J. Atwood 04 May '00

04 May '00

http://www.zope.org/Members/BwanaZulia/benchmarks.html I got it in my head today to try some of the benchmarks on another machine. Since this machine is not doing much (Sendmail and Apache w/ no traffic) I could play around more with a few different scenarios. And before you ask... I will let DC announce the new code. Enjoy, J

Is there (or will there be) any replacement for <dtml-comment>...</dtml-comment>?

Change ZClass Properties
by julio dinis 04 May '00

04 May '00

Hi Zopers, I want to add property "SiteUrl" to a propertysheet. I want property "SiteUrl" value to be equal to Property "url" value. How can I do this programatically. I think of just renaming my "url" property to "SiteUrl" but there is no way to do that on ZClass management interface. I do not want to go throw my 779 objects and copy+paste... I've this problem do to legacy. Because I have 779 objects with a property "url" that must be changed to another name but keep the same value. Must be changed to another name because My class is now CatalogAware and this base class already have a function named "url", which conflits with my property "url". Any help? Thanks. Re: Zope Mailing Archives Anomalies

They are not sorted by date (or anything > else that I can determine) There was a problem here, which I've fixed, but messages won't always be exactly sorted by date. Unfortunately (beyond my control) the 'sort-by-date' in the search results uses the last modified date of the document in the database. This is not always the same as the delivered date from the MTA but is _usually_ in the same order and so doesn't make a difference. > 2. The report of the total matches found shown > on the first page (26) is not the same > as the report of the total matches found > reported on the second and following pages > (55). This is true. The number of matches returned is an estimate (again, something from Lotus Notes and so beyond my control... which is why I prefer Zope ;-) which for some reason is inaccurate on the first page if more than about 50 matches are found but then becomes accurate once you view the second page. > I do not believe these problems are specific to the example I cite. Correct, the above issues apply to all the archives. I hope these problems aren't serious enough to impact the usefulness of the list archives :S Thanks for pointing them out, Chris PS: The archives, for anyone who doesn't know yet, are at: http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists.html

Benchmarks vs Jakarta.
by Otto Hammersmith 04 May '00

04 May '00

Hello all, So, I was reading http://www.zope.org/Members/BwanaZulia/zope_benchmarks/benchmarks.html and came up with a few questions. Since the page says to post comments to the zope-list, here I am. (Please cc me on replies, since I get the digest and won't see them for a while and may miss them.) So, my first question is what version of 1.2.2 was used. Second, was there a JIT involved? If so, which one. What webserver was used in either case? Anyone want to try it on the new 1.3 IBM just dropped a pre-release of? :) One thing that I think may be causing problems for Jakarta is the inital load of the JSP. Zope has a huge advantage in that it cahces most objects in memory and the JSP will have to hit the disk on it's first run. Not to mention that it'll compile it into the Java class the first go 'round. I'd be interested in seeing more complex JSPs and servlets and more requests to even out the startup time. Just some thoughts... -- -Otto.
