global search
by Jonathan Park 03 May '00

03 May '00

Good morning everyone! This is just an experiment I was trying to figure out how I would make my search using search interface global meaning it would check under squish sites under different folders. I tried using or statements, also tried cataloging just a squish site but the results I got were not accurate. Just curious. :) Is possible? Right? Anything is possible, is just matter of figuring out HOW? :) Thank you! -jon I wish all of you a great day!

Help please = mxDateTime needed in Zope
by Jason Cunliffe 03 May '00

03 May '00

Hello An intermodal transport project I am working on needs more advanced DateTime tools than native Zope or the [lovely] CalendarTag product offer. I've looked at the Python package mxDateTime http://starship.python.net/~lemburg/mxDateTime.html ...and YES it's just what we want. Key features we like are: - clean consistent syntax, - the facility for datetime arithmetic - all-in-one precision for timestamping anything. Our application requires a framework for participants in intermodal transport chains to search and negociate multiple transport connections [truck and ship mainly]. Becuase of the interdependancies it is necesasary to frequently iterate between multiple schedules from multiple prespectives. This demands on the fly datetime arithemetic. Q: How can we get _FULL_ access to all those features/functions/paramters/etc in Zope via DTML or otherwise? >>>Strategic and technical advice is needed... PythonExternal Methods vs. ZopeProduct vs. ??? We've tried wrapping some test functions from mxDateTime as PythonExternal methods, but [argghh] cannot pass parameters to them. Works ok in Python but not in Zope 8-( Is it possible to pass parameters to and from DTML to External Python Methods? If so How.. My dream is that mxDateTime becomes part of standard Python and thus Zope. But I confess I really do not undersatnd the realtionship between modules in the Python directory and what is available to call from Zope. Help. Really hoping there is a good solution Thanks in advance. - Jason Cunliffe ________________________________________________________________ Jason CUNLIFFE = NOMADICS.(Interactive Art and Technology).Design Director

small edit textarea
by Jason B 03 May '00

03 May '00

I sure wish we could get a bigger area for the edit textarea box. If we could get rid of the "Size" and "Last Modified fields in the management screens we would have more room. Does anyone know where to make these changes? Maybe these fields shouldn't go away, maybe they should be placed along side the id and title? Also, the timestamp on a change goes underneath the status message of "Content Changed" - maybe this could go to the right of the message. It's not like that date is very important anyway, you can still see the "Last modified" date on the same return screen. If these little changes were made we could probably squeeze in 4 or 5 more lines of the edit textarea and not have to scroll as much. Sure would make editing easier. Another thing that I think would be cool would be to make the first slash in the links back through the tree a link to the root folder. What do you think? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online and get email alerts with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com/

wget to manage zope - manage_restart
by Gustin Kiffney 03 May '00

03 May '00

I've got zope running on an intranet NT server and its ODBC connection keeps a number of database files open at all times which my backup system can't handle. Hitting the zope control panel restart button closes those files long enough to get them backed up, but I'd like to do this later at night and automatically because the files get opened again as soon as someone hits the site (all the picklists, etc come out of the ODBC database files). So far I can't figure out how to do this. It looks like just hitting the URL http://superuser:password@myserver/Control_Panel/manage_restart? should work (I'm using wget on a linux box to do this) should work, and it DOES work from IE, but it doesn't work from wget - here's what happens with wget doing this with that exact same url: I guess wget tries without authorization first: Server: Zope/Zope 2.1.4 (binary release, python 1.5.2, win32-x86) ZServer/1.1b1 Date: Thu, 27 Apr 2000 20:47:13 GMT Www-Authenticate: basic realm="Zope" Bobo-Exception-File: C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\ZPublisher\HTTPResponse.py Bobo-Exception-Type: Unauthorized Content-Type: text/html Connection: close Bobo-Exception-Value: <strong>You are not authorized to access this resource.</s trong> Content-Length: 1376 Bobo-Exception-Line: 551 then wget says this: Closing fd 4 Connecting to 128.1.1.200:8080... Created fd 4. connected! ---request begin--- GET /Control_Panel/manage_restart? HTTP/1.0 User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 Host: 128.1.1.200:8080 Accept: */* Authorization: Basic c3VwZXJ1c2VyOnRob21hcw== ---request end--- HTTP request sent, awaiting response... Then, from that point on, trying to access anything on that site gives me this: Error: Error Type: ValueError Error Value: I/O operation on closed file Traceback: Traceback (innermost last): File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 165, in publish File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: manage_main) File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 102, in call_object (Object: manage_main) File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\App\special_dtml.py, line 120, in __call__ (Object: manage_main) File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 502, in __call__ (Object: manage_main) File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_In.py, line 691, in renderwob (Object: objectItems) File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\App\PersistentExtra.py, line 114, in locked_in_version (Object: MailHost) File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\ZODB\Connection.py, line 380, in modifiedInVersion File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\ZODB\DB.py, line 356, in modifiedInVersion File C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3\lib\python\ZODB\FileStorage.py, line 593, in modifiedInVersion (Object: C:\PROGRA~1\WEBSITE3/var/Data.fs) ValueError: I/O operation on closed file and the only way to get zope going again is to manually restart it in NT Control Panel using the Services dialog box. Anybody see what I'm doing wrong here?

Please help. On the top of 'index_html' I have: <dtml-if "REQUEST.has_key('SUBMIT')"> // this is the submit button of the form // the action of the form is 'index_html' itself <dtml-call insertNewItem> // this is a ZSQL method </dtml-if> -here is the form- The point is that I want the method to be executed only when the form is submitted. When first displayed nothing unusual happens (the REQUEST doesn't have 'SUBMIT'). But when I submit the form than this is what I get: Error Type: ValueError Error Value: Invalid Header (0): Does anyone know what is wrong with this (or with Zope)?

ZOPE Benchmark
by Ostermeyer＠t-online.de 03 May '00

03 May '00

BZ's ZOPE vrs Tomcat benchmarking reminds on another thing I'd noticed before, but didn't investigate any further: At that time I was playing around a little with Servlets. I'd run an file upload servlet with Jigsaw's Servlet Engine. (Jigsaw is another HTTP-Server written in Java. It's available for free on the W3C's web site.) I used the com.oreilly.servlet package to implement the servlet. It turned out, that uploading a 3.5 MB binary file by the servlet took about 42 seconds. Using ZOPE to upload the same file took about 17 seconds on the same machine. This is of course far from a real benchmark. But the results are stable and seem to proof BZ's scores. I don't know if this shows ZOPE's superior implementation over other (Java) web servers. My opinion is, that it must have something to do with the performance of Java and Python byte code, right? Have anybody a comparison of that kind? Andreas Ostermeyer

DTML and JavaScript
by a.wacknitz＠francotyp.com 03 May '00

03 May '00

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have some listboxes that depend on each other such that if an entry is selected in one of them the contents (filled by ZSQL scripts) of the others change. I assume that this is not possible with DTML solely. Therefore I consider JavaScript. But I have no experience with it and I ask myself if (and how) it is possible to mix DTML and JavaScript eg. using the onChange() event. Is there any documentation or examples on this theme that I can have a look at?
