Problems with zope + MS SQL Server
by Robert Honore 03 May '00

03 May '00

Anyone ever figured out how to get ZOPE's ODBC DA to work with MS SQL Server? I am a Zope newbie using MS SQL Server 7.0, Zope version 2.1.6, Python 1.5.2 Win 386 and ZODBC Version 3.1.0b2. Whenever I attempt to open an ODBC connection to the SQL Server I get the message "Invalid connection string:" followed by the name of the DSN I am trying to use. Can anyone help me along with this or is this the curse for using Microsoft software? Yours sincerely, Robert Honore.

I have a client who wants to distribute learning materials via the web and are looking to move their PDF's and Word docs to a database . Has anyone used Zope for this ? Would you use a third party database ? What about searching the documents ? Thanks in advance Richard Richard Moon richard(a)dcs.co.uk

Fwd: [Zope] Not logging in - what have I missed?
by Andrew Williams 03 May '00

For what it's worth, one thing to remember is that username/passwords are case sensitive. Another couple of simpleton problems, I think. Direct help, and pointers to existing information, will be very welcome. Installation: - Zope 2.1.6 on Win NT4 SP5 - Zope default installation to D: - starting as a service - var directory has Everyone=All permissions 1) Although I can view Ok as Anonymous, I can't get Zope to recognize any username/password combination other than the superuser. I have defined users at the top level and in the folder where my pages are. When I get to a page that requires authentication, only the superuser pair will work. Those from acl_users keep returning the login prompt until it expires. 2) Although I have set the permissions for Anonymous to permit "change Properties" in the folder I continue to get a "manage_Properties" permissions error when I try to exercise this permission. Thank you for any and all clues. fsimport, external user folder
by Michael Arndt 03 May '00

Hello together, has someone combined external userfolder an one of the two import methods of zope ? Reason: If i use zope i have a big amount of existing web documents i have to import ( one set of data is about 2 GB no upper limit by data, can only be limited by setting an upper allowed limit ) Does someone know if Frontpage supports WebDAV and can be combined with Zope ? and last Question: Does someone know, what is the design reason to import all Data in the Zope Database and not maintaining pointers to data in any case ? ( Reason: when evaluating i did an import of data of only one user and Zope Database crashed immediatly. Now my situation is somwhat special since not all documentation tends to be 18 GB per user, but i would assume that Documentation Projects tend to grow, so i would assume maintaining references to data is faster ... ?) thanks for your help and answers Micha -- ======================================================== Michael Arndt science + computing gmbh c/o CAE-Systemservice Abt. HTML validator...

Hi, I haven't followed this list for a few months now; but, I thought it would be worthwhile to pass on this link: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.zope.org&outline= Shouldn't an open source project strive to be as standards compliant as possible...? I learned that I was improperly using heading levels from this link (see Outline at bottom of page)... Just trying to help, Pierre

This means that in many-write situations, the ZODB is working much harder than usual, and performance of the site will go down faster than under an equivalent number of reads. > > statistically it should even out with as many 'up' moderations being > > discarded accidentally as 'down' ones. > > Is it because there is no locking? It's an > area of the Zope scope (;-) that I have thought about for a while(storage). I beleive that this tradeoff (transactional integrity vs. efficient writes) would be made irrelevant if the FS in question was either ReiserFS or the IRIX Journalling FS, but I don't really know enough about either to be certain. Changing index_html method from anoter method
by Pierre Rougier 03 May '00

03 May '00

Hi, This quite the same question than my last one but I may have not been clear...: I want to change the code of my index_html method from another method. I tried with manage_upload... I didn't manage, as I think there is a permission problem (even If I changed the proxy) I tried directly with index_html.raw, I didn't manage I though that a function write_raw() was existing, I didn't find... Do u know how can I do such a thing? Isn't possible to make something like <dtml-var "index_html.raw = new_index_html">... Thanks..... Pierre

SQL information (off topic)
by Morten W. Petersen 03 May '00

I've searched the net numerous times, for some good SQL documentation (specifically advanced tutorials); but I can't seem to find it _anywhere_. This information could probably be useful to a _lot_ of (Zope)people. -Morten ------------------------------------------------------------- How to reply to email: http://home.sol.no/~vidaandr/news/OBSquoting.html (norsk) http://home.sol.no/~vidaandr/news/FAQquoting.html (english) Who is the bigger fool?
