DateTime.py patch
by Shane Hathaway 02 May '00

02 May '00

Zope fans, I have just done a line-by-line audit of DateTime.py. There were a number of issues, some of which have been submitted to the collector. I have corrected everything I could find. Gregor Hoffleit recently submitted a patch for DateTime.py as well. He made some of the same corrections I did, though in a different way. The major changes are: - Usage of integer arithmetic where possible to eliminate rounding errors. - Better support for daylight savings time. - Usage of long integer milliseconds, making it possible to do date comparisons with more predictable results. - Date comparisons are now time zone independent, meaning that a DateTime set to 3:00 PM in GMT-5 is equivalent to a DateTime set to 4:00 PM in GMT-4. If do any work with Zope's DateTime or have had any issues with it, please install this patch so it can be fully tested. I have already tested it to the best of my ability. I expect this to become part of the main distribution once it has been tested. http://www.zope.org/Members/hathawsh/DateTime.py There is one change made by Gregor which I feel I could not incorporate. Gregor added the "CET" and "CEST" time zones to the list of recognized time zones. Rather than add it now, I would prefer to get a complete list of zones which are not included (EDT, which happens to be the time zone I am in right now, is also missing.) For now, those zones should be correctly translated to GMT offsets. On a slightly different note: Recently there was a thread that described a problem with the time format of Z2.log. That problem is unrelated to DateTime.py. ZServer/medusa/http_server is written incorrectly; where it accesses gmtime() it ought to be calling localtime(). Also, it needs to be updated for daylight savings time the same way DateTime was. Shane

Does anyone have a pre-compiled version of the DCOracle driver for python? Or instructions on how to compile? (I have VC++6 and GCC on the box in question). -- Jeffrey Hulten SCT Consulting

Changing Zclass Base Classes
by julio dinis 02 May '00

02 May '00

Hello Zopistas! I have a product MyProduct with a zclass MyClass. I have many instances of MyClass. I decided to add Catalogue_aware base class to MyClass. Now when I create a instance of MyClass automatically add to my Catalog. Everythin ok. But. I thougt that now if I copy the instances I created before MyClass had Catalogue_aware has base class this instances would be added to my catalog. Wrong. Looks like the instances didnt inherited the adition of this new base class. Can I do any operation to this instances(objects) in order "for them to realize" they now have Catalogue_Aware as base class? CatalogAware ZClass with File base class
by Fusion Group 02 May '00

02 May '00

I wanted to make my new File objects CatalogAware so I created a new ZClass with CatalogAware and File as my base classes (in that order). When I upload a new file, calling manage_addFile from my ZClass, it of course is not made available for my Catalog. I know I'm doing this wrong, but I'm starting to run out of time on this project and can't afford the luxury of fiddling until I figure it out anymore. I probably should have fiddled with Zope a little before I used it for a client's project, but it's too late now. Any help would be greatly appreciated Regards, Chad

Zope & Z39.50
by Eron Lloyd 02 May '00

02 May '00

Is there anyone that has been successful at using Zope and Python to access resources of another database (Like a Library Automation System) using the Z39.50 protocol? I haven't been able to find much of anything on this; I know Z39.50 is not widely used for general Web communication. I also wonder how hard it would be (if a solution doesn't exist) to implement this in Zope, possibly by building a Z39.50 protocol toolkit in Python and then plugging it into Zope. Eron

Zope vs Apache benchmarks

Yellow, I've tested Zope and Apache on the SAME MACHINE Because of the Zope rendering on all objects before serving the request I've done a php script that reads an .html file and serves the output. Command used: ab -n 100 -c 10 <url> I didn't like the results!!!! dtml-in ???
by Pierre Rougier 02 May '00

Hi, Finally, for printing my index_html method, I use the read_raw() method. but I still have a problem: <dtml-in "objectItems('DTML Method')" sort=id> <dtml-if "id == index_html"> <dtml-var "read_raw()" html_quote> </dtml-if> ... </dtml-if> ...... ...... </dtml-in> As u can see, I want to test if the methods I extract from the methods that exists have special names, to treat it in different manners. Problems is that the <dtml-if "id == index_html"> test does not seem to work.... It can sound a very simple syntax question, but how can I test the method name??? I tried the tag <dtml-var id> which gave me the good method names... Can u help me??? Thanks a lot Pierre

Re: [Zope] standard_error_message
by Ray 02 May '00

That's what I would think, but it doesn't seem to work. The header and footer work just fine, but not the standard_error_message. For example, I modified the root standard_error_message to contain the words "This is the root". Then created a folder called Testing, copied the same standard_error_message document into that folder and added the words "This was copied from..." in the beginning of the doc. I even restarted the server, just to be safe. When I still went to http://server/Testing/badfile, I got the error message from the root. That's why I figured, perhaps, when looking for the 'badfile', the namespaces were searched all the way down the tree. When it didn't find it anywhere, it just printed the error message from where it ended up, which was at the root. Makes sense to me.. Course I'm not sure how it all really works internally. -Ray ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christian Scholz" <cs(a)comlounge.net> To: "Ray" <zopelist(a)circle17.com> Sent: Monday, May 01, 2000 6:17 PM Subject: Re: [Zope] standard_error_message > Hi! > > On Mon, May 01, 2000 at 05:49:24PM -0600, Ray wrote: > > Quick question about error messages under Zope 2.1.0 under Linux: > > > > Is it possible to overload the standard_error_message document, or do all > > errors essentially come from the root of the tree?
