WIN2K and ZOPE FULL WEBDAV SUPPORT!!!
by Theodore Patrick 29 Mar '00

29 Mar '00

If you are experimenting with WIN 2000 try creating a NETWORK MAPPING (WEBDAV) to a ZOPE FOLDER. 1. Click on Network 2. Click on Add a Network Place 3. Enter the url to a ZOPE Folder 4. Done You now should have a folder view in Windows that Maps to a Zope Folder. Enabling all sorts of great things: 1. Editing and Saving back to the folder with Security 2. Drag and Drop assets into the folder with Security Great work on the Implementation of WEBDAV!!! Thanks DC!!! Theodore E. Patrick Ishophere.com

Mac2ISO conversion?
by Oliver Wrede 29 Mar '00

29 Mar '00

I need to enter text data into a MySQL database via HTML forms. Text entered on a Macintosh client is not ISO-Latin as it seems. When getting that text out of the database, the special characters are broken in the HTML page but not in the textarea. Text entered via a Windows browser are not broken in the Mac browsers HTML page - but in the textarea. So I guess I should care for getting ISO-Latin text from the Mac clients into the database! >From other areas I know this requires a mac-to-iso translation (in both directions (because the text must be editable on Macs). But how can I do this in Zope? I know how to figure out, if it's a Mac-Client -- do I have to create an External method fr this? Oliver .. Oliver Wrede .. owrede(a)khm.de .. RE: [Zope] Abstract rendering made difficult?

I'm coming in late on this thread, so ignore me if this has already been covered... :) It sounds like what you want is something like the following: # docname is the variable passed in via the POST whose # value is the name of the document to render. We use # _.getattr(this(), docname) to retrieve the needed # document from the current object. Note that we use # the "let" tag instead of REQUEST.set, which is # increasingly considered evil :) <dtml-let theDoc="_.getattr(this(), docname)"> <dtml-var theDoc> </dtml-let> Brian Lloyd brian(a)digicool.com Software Engineer 540.371.6909 Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com

Colour in Structured Text?
by Chris Withers 29 Mar '00

29 Mar '00

Can you do colour in structured text? The reason I ask is that I've just found out how great ZWiki Webs are but I'm wondering if there's a shorter way of changing text colour than: <FONT COLOR="#xxxxxx"> </FONT> I'm looking to use a Wiki so a group of people can edit a web of documents and I was hoping that each person could use a different colour. Having to do the colour by hand defeats the simplicity of a Wiki :( Any ideas? Chris

Problem with SQL+Special chars...
by Oliver Wrede 29 Mar '00

29 Mar '00

I am having a problem with HTML entities. I am using Zope to enter and output text into a MySQL Database. When I output the text, it is rendered through my own External Method: <dtml-var "myMthod(myText)"> I tired to write a little subrouting which is supposed to translate special chars in the database into HTML during output. Unfortuneatly the texts are entered on both MacOS and Windows browsers. This unfortunatly makes it difficult: There is no unique ASCII code in the database -- in other words: the same special char may be represented in the database with to character values. First I looked if the <dtml-sqlvar ...> had anything to offer, but that does not seem to be the case. How can I store text in ISO-Latin into the database regardless the Text is entered via a Mac-Browser or a Windows-Browser? Oliver .. Oliver Wrede .. owrede(a)khm.de .. ZRDB
by Tino Wildenhain 29 Mar '00

29 Mar '00

Hi, browsing thru Shared.DC.ZRDB.Results i found this construct: -------- line 117 ------------ if not name: raise ValueError, 'Empty column name, %s' % name ------------------------------ This looks a bit silly, because if name is empty, %s will be replaced with nothing... Furthermore, would it not be better to provide a generic name for the empty column? Sure, it is difficult to provide such a name who does not collide with others in namespace, but it would be very helpful, if the underlying database-adaptor does not provide full names under certain circumstances, such as ODBC with CenturaSQLBase always returns empty column names to Zope with the count() Operator. Even if used "as" to rename. How about something like: if not name: name='column%d' % i or such? Next there is always some hassle with those 'table.column' columns returning from databases who do not support column renaming. Would it be a way to rename them automatically to something like table_column? Yes, I know there could be a column already beeing called so. But if one knows she can use table.table_column in such circumstances. May be as alias? Regards Tino Wildenhain

Abstract rendering made difficult?
by Daryl Tester 29 Mar '00

29 Mar '00

Salutations, I've been staring at this one for a while, but I can't quite seem to pull it off. I'd like to render a document based on the contents of a variable. For example (simplified): <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('foo', 'index_html')"> <dtml-var foo> should (would? could? I'd like!) render index_html. Double quotes don't cut it (both print the string 'index_html') :-( Regards, Daryl Tester
