If you want the html printed after rendering then using the pdf generator is a better. Another idea that I have tried : inherit from DTMLDocument and create a new object type that will send itself to the printer at the end of processing embed latex with dtml and send the results to the printer using pdflatex. There are some cool tex macros called context written by hans hagen that can be used to create rich documents sathya -- ########################## necessity is the mother of invention ########################## -- ########################## necessity is the mother of invention ##########################

SimpleURLs sequence question
by srl 25 Mar '00

25 Mar '00

Hi all--- I'm trying to modify my copy of the SimpleURL product, and I need some help. SimpleURL defines a property Sections within URLDirectory, where each line is a section within a URL list. I've added another property to my URLDirectory--- SectionDescriptions. I want to generate a list like this: SectionName1 (link) SectionDescription1 SectionName2 (link) SectionDescription2 I have the following code in the index_html of a URLDirectory instance: <dtml-in Sections> <dtml-let section=sequence-item> <A HREF="section_list?ts=<dtml-var "_['sequence-index']">"><dtml-var section></A> <br> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> Now I know there has to be a way to modify that so that I can display the sequence-indexth element of the SectionDescriptions sequence. What am I missing here? And a design question: my URLDirectory is already fairly large; I may want to create folders within it for each section. How would I adjust the method above so that it looks to subfolder properties to display the same information? Shane Landrum slandrum(a)cs.smith.edu

Re: Creating a CatalogAware ZClass
by Kevin Howe 25 Mar '00

Hi, I'm hoping to get some feedback to a question I've had about whether making ZClasses Catalog Aware is a good idea or not. Below is a my question I asked and a few ideas from a response I received, can anyone validate/invalidate any of these statements? kh Question: ------------------ Is it good practice to simply make ZClasses Catalog Aware by default, or is this something that should only be done when necessary? Response ---------------- - Object cutting and pasting does not work properly for CatalogAware ZClasses. Is this a problem for you? Note you can still copy, paste and then delete the original object. - CatalogAware ZClasses look slightly more "fragile". I've seen posting about (fairly elusive) errors in Catalogs with such ZClasses. Note I never experienced them firsthand. - You could first create a base ZClass, then subclass it when creating your actual ZClasses. This base ZClass could include common stuff such as CatalogAwareness. Then if you change your mind you just need to modify the base ZClass. There is a way to change the base classes for a ZClass, though it's a hack.

Re: Zope hanging: internal ZODB error?
by Alexandre Ratti 25 Mar '00

Hello Darran, I created a new CatalogAware ZClass in Zope 2.1.6 with a custom Catalog name based on the information in the Howto. It works fine so far. I didn't have any similar error when I updated the ZClass properties a couple of times. If you can trap this elusive ZODB error please let me know. I'll update the howto if it's related. Cheers. Alexandre PS: did you include DTML method code below? It was mangled at my end. Accessing ZSQL methods from python classes?

How do you access other Zope methods (like ZSQL methods) from a python class being put in a product? Can anyone point me to some good info about building a product? -- To be loved is very demoralizing. -- Katharine Hepburn

Interbase 6.0 beta now available
by Graham Chiu 25 Mar '00

25 Mar '00

Interbase has gone open source, and the 6.0 beta version ( Windows, Solaris, and Linux ) is now available for download from www.interbase.com. Looking at the contributed downloads, they have a Perl DBD driver, an AOLServer database driver for Linux, and a port of the ArsDigita Community System. Pity there is no Zope support except from ODBC in Win32 - and that is extremely unstable in my experience. ------- Regards, Graham Chiu gchiu<at>compkarori.co.nz http://www.compkarori.com/dynamo - The Homebuilt Dynamo http://www.compkarori.com/dbase - The dBase bulletin

Returning sequences of values with External Methods
by Ken Kinder 25 Mar '00

25 Mar '00

Currently, I am making a lot of external methods, and I would like to use one like this: <dtml-in methodname> <dtml-var foo> <dtml-var bar> </dtml-in> So basicly, I want to return a list of named values (a dist of dictionaries)? Are there any pittfalls you guys can see in doing this? suggestions? Should I make it a Product?
