HTML filtering
by Alexander Limi 18 Feb '00

Zopistas, I've run into a little something that I thought might be interesting. I run a site that accepts input from users in textboxes, and renders them afterwards on the public pages. The problem is, I want to filter out any HTML-tags in the textboxes, so users can't include their own html on my page. FOr example they shouldn't be able to insert <img> tags on the page. I first thougt that if I rendered the text as structured text, maybe those nasty HTML tidbits would disappear, but they didn't. So my question is twofold: 1. Is there a way of formatting the text (except <pre>, which is a bit crude :), so the HTML gets filtered out? 2. If not, would this maybe be a useful addition to the next version of Zope? Something á la "<dtml-var textentry fmt=filteredtext>"? Maybe to have different levels of filtering, e.g. to allow tags like and <li> but disallow all the other tags. This is a must-have feature when you have users you do not trust 100%, and so it should be a part of Zope, IMNSHO. Alexander.

Just wanted to say howdy!
by John Hebert 18 Feb '00

Howdy everybody! Just joined the list this morning. I recently started working for a web app dev firm and began to see how creating objects that the designers could drop in would speed up devel. We are currently developing in PHP3 but we are beginning to evaluate Zope and plan to use it internally with task and project management (Xen!), with the idea of eventually doing a lot of solution development in Zope. Will post more as we evolve. John Hebert Geeky Programmer Type http://www.fbgc.com

zope on shared disk
by Jerry Spicklemire 18 Feb '00

18 Feb '00

Another approach to spreading Zope resources across multiple machines is to divide entire high level folders (branches) so that each has a dedicated processor, RAM, etc. Then only the "topmost" common folder(s) need to be replicated. Of course you'll need to come up with an effective means of testing on a development system, and syncing after updates. No, it's not as clean as ZEO or a shared data.fs, but it may help solve the load problem, for awhile at least.

Re: [Zope] user created folders and local owner role problem in 2.1.3

Hi Tres, -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: Tres Seaver <tseaver(a)palladion.com> Aan: zope(a)zope.org <zope(a)zope.org>; Cornelis J. de Brabander <brabander(a)fsw.LeidenUniv.nl> Datum: donderdag 17 februari 2000 19:29 Onderwerp: Re: [Zope] user created folders and local owner role problem in 2.1.3 [snip] > >At a guess, the folder that you clone has local roles attached? I think you >would be best off to just force the ownership yourself after the clone: > Bull's eye. But why? Is there any reasoning why the owner role can only be set on a object when it has no other local roles. After all the the creator conceptually stays the owner, whether the object has other local roles or not. Furthermore, is there a place where these changes are documented, for without that simply upgrading within version 2.x.x becomes a hazardous adventure. > <dtml-let username="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName()"> > <dtml-call "manage_setLocalRoles( username, [ 'Owner' ] )"> > </dtml-let> > In the meantime I will follow your suggestion and thank you very much for your helpful response. cb

Where to put business logic?
by Steen Suder 18 Feb '00

18 Feb '00

I know that this issue has been up before, at least partly. Is there an "unwritten" rule on where to put business logic in an Zope app? Example: where to validate data input? In the submit method or somewhere in the underlying database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle etc.)? What could the underlying motives be for choosing one or the another strategy? In the particular case I'm going to use it for a db case in school and I intend to use Zope to present the data etc. instead of using MS VC++ 6.0 which I don't get the idea of anyway. -- Best regards / Mvh., Steen Suder, sysadm kollegie6400.dk -|- OpenSource --- Sign of the time Scan-Aqua ADVARSEL WARNING http://www.uk.k64.dk/sfs/Scan-Aqua/

About a year back, when doing similar research into the name, I also found that 'Zope' is originally am Inca name, and now a common surname in India. And the Central American King Buzzard is locally known as 'Rey Zope' (King Zope? I knew it!).
