Request for Advice
by Tom Deprez 15 Feb '00

Hi all, Finally we're collecting data so that a project can get started... Seeing some data, I can get brainstorming on how to implement the portal. So, it's time to ask some general questions about how certain things should be handled. Brief introduction : 1000 'nds of information sheets need to be accessable through intranet. These sheets contain data in much of the same way. So we can define records and their fields. On top of these sheets several structured info rules are placed which help people to find the correct information sheet. (This is not a general search, because the search is fixed, ie. Problem1/Case1/SubCase2 will bring you to Sheet7) The view to these fixed search will also dependend on the person who is looking at the data. I'm thinking on following implementation ways. * Since the search is dependend on the person, I can best make use of the ZPTK? Is ZPTK already in stable release? Or is the ZPTK overkill? * The records will contain lots of data (several text-fields, other datafields, pictures, etc), so I'm thinking to make ZClasses for the data-sheets, instead of putting them in a SQL database. Is this a correct assumption? * The fixed-search are generally straight tables. A selection in one table will give another table etc, until only one possibility and thus results to the correct data-sheet. Since this is straight forward, I think to put these tables inside an SQL database. However is it possible to link SQL database to the ZODB in a good way (ie a selection in an SQL database is connected with an object in ZODB)? Is it perhaps also possible to create this sort of tables as ZClasses in the ZODB? All information is welcome! Regards, Tom.

problem w/images and uploading
by Bob Graw 15 Feb '00

15 Feb '00

I'm having an interesting problem w/images. Or, maybe it is a feature that I don't understand. If I add an image to a folder (call it Test01) and then view the image everything is fine. If I upload a new image to replace Test01 and then view the image it is the same as it was. If I rename Test01 to Test02 and then view the image it is the new image. If I rename Test02 back to Test01 and the view the image it is the original. This happens on Zope 2.1.4 (binary release, python 1.5.2, win32-x86) and Zope 2.1.4 (binary release, python 1.5.2, linux2-x86). Is this a feature? It doesn't seem right to me. /**************************************** Bob Graw PROSYS Enterprises, LLC bob(a)PROSYSenterprises.com 410.703.3455 ****************************************/

Query about traversal in ZSQL methods...
by Tony McDonald 15 Feb '00

15 Feb '00

Hi all, I have a ZSQL method that I've made 'traversable' and URLs of the form http://server/ZSQL_Query/ENG201/show work beautifully. Problem is when I do something like http://server/ZSQL_Query/ENG20/show (ENG20 does not exist in the database). I get a Zope error saying that the resource or page cannot be found. Is there any way of getting around this? Ideally I'd like to be able to tell the user that there was no record in the database... cheers tone. ------ Dr Tony McDonald, FMCC, Networked Learning Environments Project http://nle.ncl.ac.uk/ The Medical School, Newcastle University Tel: +44 191 222 5888 Fingerprint: 3450 876D FA41 B926 D3DD F8C3 F2D0 C3B9 8B38 18A2

So are you saying that although Zope cannot serve SSL it can be a SSL client? I have a situation where I am using zclient to try and retrieve a Word Document fromr corporate extranet via https. Error adding a Zclass to a new product
by John Eikenberry 15 Feb '00

Stange problem I can't figure out... I have a Zope installation for my site. It works fine, except I can't add a Zclass to a product. I've followed the developers guide tutorial and... 1. create a product 2. create a simple zclass inside that product (following the tutorial exactly) When I try to add the zclass, I always get this error: <!-- Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 214, in publish_module File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 179, in publish File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 202, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: ElementWithAttributes) File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 165, in publish File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: manage_addZClass) File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 102, in call_object (Object: manage_addZClass) File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZClasses/ZClass.py, line 141, in manage_addZClass (Object: ElementWithAttributes) File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/OFS/ObjectManager.py, line 232, in _setObject (Object: ElementWithAttributes) File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZClasses/ZClass.py, line 412, in manage_afterAdd (Object: testclass) File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZClasses/ZClass.py, line 373, in _register (Object: testclass) File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 396, in setstate File /usr/local/lib/Zope/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 205, in _persistent_load (Info: > I've done a fresh install (just moving over my Extensions and Data.fs), with no help. How to change view of all *.txt?
by Robb Shecter 15 Feb '00

15 Feb '00

Hi, Is there a way to assign a handler to some objects based on type or name, similar to what Apache allows? For example, I want to have all *.txt files be processed by a certain external method. Is there any way to do this? Currently, I'm doing it by generating links to my .txt objects that are actually calls directly to my method with the object name as a paramter... It works, but it's a hack. Thanks, Robb
