XML-RPC woes
by Tony McDonald 11 Feb '00

11 Feb '00

Hi all, I'm trying to get this to work **from a XXX PythonMethod** (ie the ones that allow you to import things and are coloured red and orange!) PythonMethod do_par import xmlrpclib server_url="http://xmlrpc.server:9999" server=xmlrpclib.Server(server_url) server.getTranscript(number) I call it with a dtml doc <form action="do_par" method=post> <input type=text name="number:int"> </form> The PythonMethod returns a blank page (whether from the form or the 'try' tab) If I make the PythonMethod be; import xmlrpclib def doit(number): server_url="http://xmlrpc.server:9999" server=xmlrpclib.Server(server_url) return server.getTranscript(number) doit(number) Then I get this error, when called from either the form or the 'try' tab. I'd like to work from PythonMethods as they offer the promise of speedy editing, so what am I doing wrong this time? :( getTranscript does work, because all this code works from the Python interpreter. ta tone. ------ Dr Tony McDonald, FMCC, Networked Learning Environments Project http://nle.ncl.ac.uk/ The Medical School, Newcastle University Tel: +44 191 222 5888 Fingerprint: 3450 876D FA41 B926 D3DD F8C3 F2D0 C3B9 8B38 18A2

HELP - Zope frequent restarts
by \Tony＠newtimes.com, Rossignol"＠newtimes.com, <tonyr＠ep.newtimes.com> 11 Feb '00

11 Feb '00

Hello everyone, Does anyone know of debugging techniques that are useful to diagnose zope restarts? We are running Zope 2.1.3 and once the load approaches 5 requests/second zope can't stay up more than 30 minutes. I am hoping that there is some code we wrote that is causing these "crashes" but I've found no way to track them down, since when traffic is low we don't appear to have the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is this something we should be looking at ZEO for 5 hits/second? I was under the impression Zope could handle much larger loads than this. -- ------------------------------- tonyr(a)ep.newtimes.com Director of Web Technology Newtimes Inc. -------------------------------

Database transaction
by Matt Goodall 11 Feb '00

11 Feb '00

Hi, When adding to a database table I need to calculate the next number from the existing records, increment that number and add the new record using the calculated number. The critical thing is that the transaction must be uninterrupted or two or more users could be assigned the same number. Can this be done with the Zope database connections? I'm using MySQL at the moment but I could (presumably) change to PostgreSQL quite easily. Any other ideas would be more than welcome. RE: [Zope] Zope.org Search Niggle
by Martijn Pieters 11 Feb '00

From: Chris Withers [mailto:chrisw@nipltd.com] > How come if you ask to view a printable page of any search > you do in Zope you > get something like 1400 results returned? The printable page link now takes the query string into account if present. This means that the printable version of the Search Result page will now show only those results that are relevant to your search. -- Martijn Pieters, Software Engineer | Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com | Creators of Zope http://www.zope.org | mailto:mj@digicool.com ICQ: 4532236 | PGP: http://wwwkeys.nl.pgp.net:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xA8A32149 -------------------------------------------

Re: [Zope] Calling a ZSQL methods from an external method

The external method takes > self as an argument, and in the code I just call self.sqlMethod(). Okay, I've got that, except that I have a single extension in that my ZSQL method takes an argument. I'm trying to call it ala: results=self.GetCat (CatID=str(catID)) where "GetCat" is the SQL Method. So my external method reads: def CategoryPath (self, baseURL, catID): while (catID != 0): results=self.GetCat (CatID=int(catID)) This isn't working. I can't tell you if its the argument that's the problem, as the manifestation is that it can't find the right DB connector. -- J C Lawrence Home: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Other: coder(a)kanga.nu --=| A man is as sane as he is dangerous to his environment |=--

zcatalog from external method ?
by Geir B Hansen 11 Feb '00

hiyah zopistas ! For our intranet we have implemented a tweaked version of fsimport.py, to import files that the content-people have made in their wysiwyg-editors. The files (DTML-documents mainly) are imported nicely enough, but they are not indexed in the Zcatalog. My python-skills are still a bit below par, and i cannot figure out how to add the equivalent of <dtml-call reindex_object> in an external method.. anyone out there with a quick solution ?? -- Geir B Hansen web-developer/designer geirh(a)funcom.com http://www.funcom.com

Let's see if I can make this clear. 1. Do not send me mail privately asking questions about Zope. Instead send them to zope(a)zope.org 2. Do not include HTML in your email messages to the list. You could use Word to create the report, and even print it. Alternatively, you could learn all about RTF and write an External Method that creates an RTF file. -------------------------------------------------------------------
