The clean solution would be to derive a new ZClass which holds the existing document body as a text property, and wraps the standard_html_header/footer around it in the class' index_html method. The *_add method could handle stripping out / converting any other Mason-specific stuff before storing the property. -- ========================================================= Tres Seaver tseaver(a)palladion.com 713-523-6582 Palladion Software http://www.palladion.com

Python Method
by Pedro Silva 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

Hi, Someone has told me that if I wanted to access object in the filesystem, I had to use External Methods instead of use the local filesystem Zope Product. When I was seeing something in python, to can write the code, I went to the zope page and I discorery a Product that is like the External Method, that product was the Python Method that let us write the code python and let us access to the filesystem as the same way as the External Method. What I wanted is that, if someone as tryed this product, or External Method, because the code un Python is the same, if can help me in one thing. I have one folder in the filesystem that I want to access. I'm using the OPEN, to can open the folder and I want to read the content of that folder. The code line is like: f = open('var/spool/news/articles','r') But unfortanelly, when I reun this and the rest of the code, it gives me a Syntax Error. I think that the error may be in this code line, because the otherones are correct. Can anyone tell me a way to access the content of the folder access? The other problem that I have is, I want to search in some text, that it is too in the filesystem, for some words. For example: I want to find in that file, the word From: and when he founds the word, he has to write the text after to a variable. The code that I'm using is: for lines in f.readline(): if string.find(line,'Form:'): from=lines return from Is this code correct? If anyone could help me, that would be great!!! This is urgent, please send your answer to: psilva(a)ruido-visual.pt Thanks, Pedro Silva

Products breaking other Products?
by James W. Howe 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

I just encountered a problem which scares me to some extent. I have developed my own product with my own set of ZClasses. In my Products folder I had my product, some other products and the PTKBase product. The version of the PTK was from a couple of weeks ago (or so). Yesterday I retrieved the latest PTK stuff from the CVS repository and updated the contents of my products directory with this version of PTK. Suddenly existing instances of ZClasses that I had created previously, were appearing as broken. They apparently couldn't find their product. I was confused by this, because I was able to add new instances of my ZClasses. After posting a message to the zope mailing list, I received a reply which suggested that perhaps a product unrelated to my product was causing a problem. Having nothing else to lose, I replaced my PTKBase with the old version of PTKBase. After restarting Zope my broken ZClasses were once again functioning. My question is this, why should a product unrelated to my product cause problems with my ZClasses? I feel a bit uncomfortable with the notion that one product can seemingly affect another. I don't believe any of my code relied on anything relating to the PTK. Can someone explain what might have happened? Thanks. James W. Logging on as a delegate ?
by Keith Mantell 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

Sorry if this is a duplicate posting. I have set up a subfolder from my main site and added an admin user (called pam) to its acl_user document. How should pam logon ? I thought one should attempt to go to http://my.zope.server:8080/Sub_Folder/manage Is this right ? But from there I can only logon as the super user. I have checked the acl_user, deleted and reinstated the user a couple of times. This is probably a very simple problem, but I just can't see it. Thanks in advance Keith

How to fix a "broken" object?
by James W. Howe 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

Much to my dismay, for some reason I have some classes in my Zope environment which are "broken". The message I get when I try to access them is: "This object is broken because the unknown product that created it is no longer installed or is installed incorrectly. [...]" The confusing thing is that the product which created them exists and looks just fine. In addition, I can create new instances of the the ZClass which is giving me problems. If I look at the source of the error message, I notice that it says the following: "This object's class was IssueFolder in module *TOT0ABbYdW6zGJxy0BmF4g==." I looked at my product, and the class id for IssueFolder is TOToABbYdW6zGJxy0BmF4g==. I'm confused as to what I might have done to cause this problem. If this were a production system I would be really concerned. As it is, I'm concerned about putting Zope into production if there is some easy way to break things. Does anybody have any tips or ideas on what may have happened? I'm going to poke around the source code to see if I can find any clues, but if anyone else has experienced this sort of problem and knows how to fix it I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. I've never used manage_changeProperties. I wonder how manage_changeProperties knows that you want it to change the cd_info property sheet. Maybe you should look into that angle. Maybe the call should be qualified like this (or something along this line): propertysheets.cd_info.manage_changeProperties() -- Loren

Create a product or just copy?
by Guy Davis 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

I have created a folder called TestProject that contains a number of other folders including one which contains a bug tracking database front end. I would like to have users (managers) be able to create a new Project which would basically entail copying over the TestProject hierarchy, setting some properties and setting up user lists. Can this be down by making this TestProject a 'Product'? If so, how should I proceed? Simpler for me, but more hassle for the user would be to maintain a clean Project hierarchy that could simply be copied and renamed. I like the idea of a Product but am unsure if this is the place I should be using it. Thanks. -- Guy Davis mailto:davis@arc.ab.ca (403) 210-5334 Alberta Research Council

HELP: Very frequent Zope restarts
by Tony Rossignol 10 Feb '00

10 Feb '00

HELP Please. Anyone who is using Zope in production or has experienced Zope restarting itself. Is Zope restarting itself a common event under a loaded system? Does anyone have a way to track down what may be the cause of a "crash"? We have Zope up in production serving 8 sites and whenever we get a request rate approaching 5/sec Zope decides to shutdown and restart. Nothing is reported in the zope_msg.log, /Control_Panel/manage_debug does not reveal anything interesting, and DebugLogger has not been very helpful. Our configuration is Apache in front using mod_rewrite w/ mod_fcgi, Zope 2.1.3. I've just patched FCGIServer.py so that DebugLogger will dump some information about FCGI connections - hoping this will shed some light on what may be happening. Right now I have more questions than answers and am hoping someone out there can help. -- ------------------------------- tonyr(a)ep.newtimes.com Director of Web Technology Newtimes Inc. -------------------------------
