URL Substitution.
by Alexandre A. Rodioukov 07 Feb '00

Hi fellow Zope hackers. I'm quite a beginner in Zope and probably for some of you my question would be very easy to answer :) I'm looking for a way to embed a foreign (on different URL) document into the results of DTML rendering. For example I want to include LinuxToday headlines on my site and they do provide an HTML with their news headers. All I should do is to actually tell Zope to somehow render URL to this document as it were native document object. I would like to know, if there are any ways to perform such a thing without writing external method that will fetch the file over HTTP and return results. I'm also very curious what kind of development tools people use do develop DTML, 'cause right now I'm fighting with Emacs/PSGML, I've also used HomeSite previously, but Linux is a platform of choice :)) With kind regards, Alexandre.

See ZGotW #1 :) Calling one DTML Method from within another requires passing through two "required" parameters, one for the "client" object and one for the namespace. So, to just call it: <dtml-var "formattingMethod(???, articleContent( this(), _ ) )"> You can then use the majyk of Python to slice off the first 500 characters: <dtml-var "formattingMethod(???, articleContent( this(), _ )[:500] )"> -- ========================================================= Tres Seaver tseaver(a)palladion.com 713-523-6582 Palladion Software http://www.palladion.com

One of the intranet's primary functions will be a bulletin board, and I have tried programming a mailto form three different ways using tutorials. It has yet to work. My most recent attempt involved creating a mail host and the feedback/sendfeedback documents. However, upon submission I get an SMTP error saying that the domain must be specified. I have checked with the tech guys here and maybe they're high on smack, but I believe the host and mail addresses are correct. I have just about given up on successfully implementing any forms using zope, please throw me an innertube.. > > -- > Chris McDonough - Digital Creations, Inc. > Publishers of Zope - http://www.zope.org Here is the code I use to mail out the ZGotW stuff: -------------------- snip --------------------------------- <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-let issueID=id issueURL=absolute_url issueTitle=title> <dtml-sendmail mailhost=MailHost> From: Zope Guru of the Week <ZGotW(a)palladion.com> To: <dtml-var "_.string.join( toAddressList, ',' )"> Cc: <dtml-var "_.string.join( ccAddressList, ',' )"> Subject: [ZGotW] Issue #<dtml-var issueID> (<dtml-var status>) Date: <dtml-var "ZopeTime().rfc822()"> <dtml-var "issue_txt( _.None, _, issueURL=issueURL )"> </dtml-sendmail> </dtml-let> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> -------------------- snip --------------------------------- A couple of points: * The header lines in the message body *have* to be flush against the margin -- no whitespace allowed! This is the easiest error to make with the sendmail tag. * You *must* put one empty line between the headers and the body of the message. * The sendmail tag pushes a namespace on top of the stack which mucks up the id/title/absolute_url that you "expect" to be using -- hence the aliasing of them through a <dtml-let> * The MailHost object needs *both* the 'local host' and the 'SMTP host' properties filled in in order to function properly. Fully-qualified domain names are best, although I have gotten it to work with short forms. Hope this helps! -- ========================================================= Tres Seaver tseaver(a)palladion.com 713-523-6582 Palladion Software http://www.palladion.com

Zope and/or dedicated server hosting
by J. Atwood 07 Feb '00

07 Feb '00

I have read about all the hosting possibilities listed on Zope.org but I think I want a dedicated server. Anyone have any companies that provide great service, good support and for reasonable prices. Having something up and running 24/7 is a must. Thanks, JMA

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the reply but could you possibly explain what to change? Except for the "selected" tag which is only used to preset the selection choice, everything seems to be the same. Can you confirm that your DegreeTypes property is of type "lines" and simply consists of carriage-return-separated text? Any help would be much appreciated - I can't take my site live until I get these forms working. Cheers, Darran.
