Thank you very much. I tried it a bit, and it seems fine, except for the cut-n-paste problem: if I activate a dtml method as acess rule in a folder, then I cut and paste it to another folder, the icon still shows it as activated in the new folder, whereas in reality it is not active. I believe that would work for adding DTML Methods, but when I want to add an instance of my ZClass I do something like this in DTML code: <dtml-call "FooClass_add(_.None, _, NoRedir=1)"> what is the equivalent Python code? Zope and Debian

I was using Zope just fine with my redhat install, but for a variety of reasons I needed to upgrade to Debian. Zope installed fine (can't wait to see new packages for the recently released upgrade ^_^) but I'm curious as to how one is supposed to use the netscape in debian to edit zope sites. I am currently using Netscape 4.61, as that's the recommended default, but this is also true of 4.08, 4.61, and 4.7. If I go to my RedHat box, sitting right next door, and use any of these versions of netscape, everything works fine. The problem is: I go to my site. I click on a folder. I select 'add dtml method' from the menu. I type anything for the title and ID: then I hit 'add', or 'add and edit'. The status bar changes to "Connect: Host www.twistedmatrix.com:8080 contacted. Watiting for reply..." but nothing happens after that. This is not a general problem with HTTP POST, as it only happens when I access Zope (and only the 'add dtml method' and 'add dtml document' screens -- I can add users and edit documents just fine!) Mozilla on the same machine works fine. When netscape fails, no line ever shows up in /var/lib/zope/var/Z2.log, so I assume it's never sending any query. The client is helix.twistedmatrix.com, the server is www.twistedmatrix.com. Lynx also doesn't work, but I won't get into that =) ---- The Tao is like a glob pattern: It is masked but always present. used but never used up. I don't know who built to it. Delete permission weirdness?

Hi all, I have stumbled across this rather interesting behaviour: Consider a situation where you have a DTML method within a Folder object. For a user-defined role "MyRole" you enable "Delete objects" permission on the Folder. But for the DTML method, you turn off "Acquire permission" and make sure the delete permission is off for everyone (even "Manager"). Why does Zope still allow a user in the "MyRole" group to delete the object? Regards, Chris

PIL & Zope

Hi! I'm trying to move from a Linux development version of Zope to an NT production server (don't ask; not my choice). A section of my site uses the PIL library in conjunction with the Photo class. I'm looking for a precompiled version of the PIL library for Win32 that DOES NOT link with Tcl/Tk. The Debian-packaged version of the PIL doesn't link with Tcl/Tk, but the Pythonware-packaged one for Win32 does. I don't want to install more crud on this server, as they are doing me a favor by letting me install Zope. Does anyone know of a precompiled copy of PIL for Win32 without Tcl/Tk? DataCorruption (follow-up to My Data.fs won't pack with 2.1.3)

After the failed pack (see: My Data.fs won't pack with 2.1.3), I find some objects with the wrong icon. New SybaseDA, memory leaks etc.

Just wanted to mention I got results similar to Sascha Matzke under WinNT with the newest Zope release (2.1.3). My setup was a little different: I tried testing using Socrates to do multiple connections and request around 5000 documents using 10 connections requesting docs with a 50ms delay between requests. This caused python to start serious page faulting and grab around 100megs+ over 2-3 minutes. Eventually it ran out of memory and crashed. The old da doesn't cause this problem under a similar test. Some stats on the tests I tried: 1. tried it with transactions on and off... with similar results 2. sometimes there is a traceback and sometimes not (see below) 3. Zope version: Zope 2.1.0b2 (binary release, python 1.5.2, win32-x86) 4. Python version: 1.5.2 (#0, Jul 30 1999, 09:52:18) [MSC 32 bit (Intel)] 5. System Platform: win32 6. limited Zope threads to 10 in all tests 7. cache was set to 60 secs (not sure if that is relevant..) 8. the sybase server was on the same lan and didn't experience any serious problems (maybe some slow down, but since no-one complained I suspect it was still useable.. :) I suspect (and have been told) that it has to do with the C code part of the DA which is not freeing connections to Sybase correctly or maybe not freeing all the memory allocated in buffers for all the data it requests. It might be that the python code is not always calling the correct methods in the dll to close the connection. We've got an application that sends down an audio file to the user. It does this from an external method, that essentially does something like: RESPONSE['content-type'] = "audio/x-wav" out = fp.read() # fp is filehandle of data. return out Somewhere between Zope 1.10 and Zope 2.1, something changed such that the content is getting a newline appended to it. This is breaking certain audio players (for unknown reasons - I'd have thought that they'd ignore it... but anyway). Is anyone aware of anything like this that might have changed? use of DTML in object property values?

I recall this question was posted a few months ago on the list but I don't recall a response ... Is it possible to include DTML in object property values (string or text entries)? Why would you want this? Imagine that the variable "sitevar1" is available via acquisition throughout the ZODB. If content updaters for the site know that sitevar1 is defined, they can avoid hard-coding this value when editing properties and instead use the snippet <dtml-var sitevar1>. Cheers, Darran.

Removing .gif extensions from multiple files

Hello, I'm having problems with file extensions on my images in Zope. Currently, I'm creating images on my Mac, then using Anarchie to FTP them into place in Zope on our Linux server. This works fine. But I don't want my images to have file extensions (.gif, .jpg), because there are Python / period problems when I call my images using <dtml-var imageName>. But if I remove the extensions prior to FTPing them into place, Zope doesn't recognize them as images, rather as generic files. So I have to get Zope to think of 'imageName' as a gif. Several solutions present themselves, in order of attractiveness: 1. I could have Zope rip '.gif' or '.jpg' extensions off all images in a certain directory. 2. I could have Zope convert all generic files in a certain directory to images of type 'gif'. 3. I could have Zope do the FTPing itself, _from_ a place, and wish fervently that file-type would somehow be communicated. 4. I could opt to not use <dtml-var imageName>, and thus avoid the Python / period problems. This is a crappy solution. This seems like a really basic kind of issue, so I feel like I'm missing something obvious. I mean, everybody has to get images into directories, right?
