Changing title of folder
by Nicholas Piper 26 Jan '00

26 Jan '00

I've made a ZClass which subclasses Folder (and CatalogAware). I'd like to be able to specify a title for each instance that is created (always the same title). I have used manage_edit() in the ZClasses' add constructor before, but I can't find the syntax for Folder's manage_edit()... Any ideas ? -- <pcomm(a)inorbit.com> <http://www.innotts.co.uk/~nicholas/> 2048/BEC44395 1999/08/02 Nicholas C. ZCatalog Confusion Solved
by James W. Howe 26 Jan '00

26 Jan '00

Recently I posted a question about why my ZCatalog search wasn't behaving the way I had expected. I was trying to find items with had a particular meta-type and particular values for a couple of ZClass properties. It turns out that I had defined the properties in the Meta Data Table but I didn't define them as field indexes in the Indexes area. I assume that since I hadn't specified my properties as indexes, when the catalog search was performed it simply ignored those values and only used the meta_type specification and this is why all items were returned rather than the one I expected. When I added the field indexes the search behaved as expected. A careful re-reading of the ZCatalog tutorial helped me solve this one. James W. DTML editing tips, for emacs or otherwise?
by Erno Kuusela 26 Jan '00

26 Jan '00

hello, how do people usually edit dtml? the form interface is ok for tweaks and testing, but i don't imagine anyone uses it for anything over a dozen or so lines. i usually edit with joe or emacs. joe doesn't support ftp transparently so that would be a bit painful. emacs would be good, except psgml aka sgml-mode doesn't seem to get along with the dtml tags very well, at least without some further education. if i use a html 4 dtd, it doesn't know about dtml tags and the indentation magic thinks they all have to be closed. so after each <dtm-var> everything gets indented a step further.. i'm no sgml or emacs wizard, has anyone hacked the dtml tags into a html dtd, or alternatively is there a dtml-mode somewhere? i found a 0.01 version of a dtml-mode but it only seemed to support the ugly syntax. also, if zope is running on another machine, ftp is insecure. is there any way to prevent stuff from being transmitted in the clear? zope is very interesting, it seems silly that there isn't a nicer system for editing in place, considering that editing is the thing you spend most of the time doing :) or am i missing something? actually, the best thing would be if i could just edit stuff on the local filesystem, but as i understand there's now way of having dtml documents there? cheers, -- erno PS. please cc me as i'm not on the list (i'm reading the archives)

ZCatalog Confusion
by James W. Howe 26 Jan '00

26 Jan '00

I'm starting to experiment with ZCatalogs as a way to organize and access some content on my web site. I've created a ZCatalog and had it index some key attributes of some ZClass instances that I have created. Currently my catalog has 4 entries. Elsewhere I have some code which is attempting to extract ZClasses with specific attributes. In my particular case my ZClasses are news articles and each article has a 'section' attribute which indicates where the article should be viewed. I have a DTMLMethod which looks like this: <dtml-in "ArticleIndex(meta_type='Article', section='Restaurant Review', publicationDate=_['publicationDate'])"> <dtml-return "ArticleIndex.getpath(data_record_id_)"> </dtml-in> This method is implemented in an "issue" object which, among other things, defines a property called "publicationDate". There is only one 'Article' which has a section of 'Restaurant Review'. As such, my assumption was that this method would return the url of the article with a section property of 'Restaurant Review'. Unfortunately this isn't the case. Upon further debugging, I find that this loop is iterating over *all* items in the catalog rather than finding the one entry with the proper section value. My obvious question is why? From what I've read, my statement should only return a collection of objects who have a meta_type of Article, a section value of 'Restaurant Review' and a publication date equal to the publication date of my issue. Can someone explain why my request to the catalog is returning objects which don't meet all the requirements? Thanks. James W. Re: [Zope] When does http reponse begin to be sent.

Actually, as IBM extensively researched and documented with their old frame based terminals the reverse is generally true. Given a screen full of data which arrives, painting across the screen for a total of 10 seconds or Given a screen which paints instantly after a 10 second wait during which nothing visually happens other than a possible busy bar the majority of people will consider the second as far "faster" and "more responsive". There is however a riding caveat: Web users are trained to be able to do something with partial data, to be able to act _before_ the entire page has been rendered. In the IBM world above, the base assumption was that nothing could be done until the entire data set (the "frame") had been received. -- J C Lawrence Home: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Other: coder(a)kanga.nu --=| A man is as sane as he is dangerous to his environment |=--

Use of Tokens
by cesare＠planningsrl.it 26 Jan '00

26 Jan '00

Hi all! I have a strange error using tokens as parameters. I am trying to pass to an SQLMethod a parameter typed as token (MyParam:tokens) and the sqlmethod work fine inside the zope environment. You can see the SQLMethod (1) ,if you want, at the end of the message. Then I declared an DTMLMethod by wich the user can input the words to pass to MyParam. You can see the DTMLMethod (2) at the end of the message But from the input form, as soon as I run the SQLMethod I have got the following error: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: InError Error Value: Strings are not allowed as input to the in tag. What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advanced, Cesare 1) SQLMETHOD select * from mytable <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-in MyParam> <dtml-unless sequence-start> or </dtml-unless> myfield like '%<dtml-var sequence-item>%' </dtml-in> </dtml-sqlgroup> this sqlmethod generate (from inside the zope env) the following code: select * from mytable where myfield like "%firstword%" or myfield like "%secondword%" 2) DTMLMethod <dtml-var standard_html_header> <TABLE CELLSPACING="2"> <dtml-in "MySQLMethod(MyParam='<dtml-var EditParola>')"> <TR> <TH ALIGN="LEFT" VALIGN="TOP">Id </TH> <td align="center" valign="top"> <dtml-var myfield> [This is the field I want to show in table] </TD></TR> </dtml-in> </TABLE> </FORM> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Cesare Raoss Planning srl Via Bolzano 45 38014 Gardolo (TN) cesare(a)planningsrl.it http://www.planningsrl.it

refering to the id of the enclosing folder in a tree tag
by Lucas Hofman 26 Jan '00

26 Jan '00

If I have a folder structure like this a a1 a2 a3 b etc. Using a treetag to traverse this how can I refer to the id of the enclosing folder (that is the folder dat contains the 'current' element? I tried this: <dtml-tree reports branches_expr="objectValues(['Folder'])" > <dtml-var "PARENTS[0].id"> <dtml-var id> </dtml-tree> but that gives the id of the folder containing the method which contains this DTML snippet. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lucas -- PGS Seres tel: +47 67514059 PO Box 354 fax: +47 67526506 N-1324 Lysaker Norway

wide string support in ZPublisher
by Toby Dickenson 26 Jan '00

26 Jan '00

I have posted a modification to Zope at the url below, which add wide string support to ZPublisher, property pages, and property sheets. http://www.zope.org/Members/htrd/wstring At the moment it is a little limited (supporting only utf-8 and latin-1) but it is extensible, and sufficient as a proof of concept. Any feedback gratefully recieved, Toby Dickenson tdickenson(a)geminidataloggers.com

Fitting Zope into publishing process
by John Eikenberry 26 Jan '00

26 Jan '00

Hey all, I was wondering how everyone handles integrating Zope into their current design/preview/publish process. Particuarly in mixed environments (some stuff in Zope, some stuff outside - on the same site). I ask because I'm currently trying to figure out a better process for my company. We have a decent system for non-Zope stuff that we need to fit Zope into. Here's how we handle the non-Zope stuff: Every site we do has 3 incarnation: 1. Prototype: experimentation and design which when stablized gets pushed to... 2. Preview: run link checkers, content overview, and viable by client for design approval which when stablized gets pushed to... 3. The live site: public The 'pushing' in all stages is done via rsync (*nix to *nix). None of our sites (at least in the near future) will exist entirely inside Zope, but many have Zope componenets. So I've been delegated the task of integrating Zope with our current process (though the current system could be adjusted...). I can't be the only one facing this sort of situation. How do you deal with it in your organization? Thanks in advance for any advice. --- John Eikenberry [jae(a)kavi.com - http://zhar.net/] ______________________________________________________________ "A society that will trade a little liberty for a little order will deserve neither and lose both." --B. Zap logs
by Ronald L. Roeber 26 Jan '00

26 Jan '00

FYI... The Zap logs come with some information in them both the error log and the access log. It confused me for a minute (or so). That aside, i cannot get Zap to log to the access log. I get messages in the error log when the server restarts, etc. but nothing shows up in the zap access log? Any ideas. It looks to be set okay in the zap.conf file. Thanks, Ron...
