Acquisition Question

When an object is acquired, particularly something like a DTMLMethod, does the acquired object have knowledge about where it was defined? For example, suppose FolderA defines a method called 'foo'. A method in FolderB references 'foo' but FolderB does not define foo. The method might be acquired by a URL like this: /FolderA/FolderB/someMethodWhichReferencesFoo. Is there some way that the code in 'foo' would know that it was the foo which belonged to FolderA (as opposed to some other foo which might belong to some other object)? Thanks. James W. Hi John, No, you're not alone in your search for "the way" to mesh Zope with a "traditional" (brain dead?) Web site. This is exactly where I'm at, and though I'd love to see my team on a path to total Zope-dom, it's not realistic. I'm looking at several tools that other Zopephiles have put together to see how best to leverage what Zope doesn't control, meanwhile showcasing as many flashy features that Zope can add along the way. My approach, which is very much a process of discovery, is to create a Web Forms based Work Flow Application, with URLs, user IDs, Roles and Permissions, tucked neatly in a backend RDB, with some pre-commit "buffering" in Zope's internal GadFly implementation. Fix for lots of MailHost problems!

I was having lots of trouble with <dtml-sendmail>, and I investigated the code for MailHost. Instead of using the excellent smtplib module (that ships with Python) to send EMail, the folks at DC decided to write their own, using sockets. The attatched patch replaces 100+ lines of socket-based code with 2 line calls to smtplib. I think that this will improve the reliability of MailHost dramatically. As a side effect, the timeout and localhost properties of MailHosts are gone. So far, the basic <dtml-sendmail> tag works perfectly. I guess much of ZOPE track from the 8th IPC have passed. Can anyone out there tell to the list what's going on? just-got-impatient-ly yours LEE Kwan Soo ps. I wish I could have been there, but still I can not go abroad without much legal hassle till March.

Calendar tag 0.9.5 buglet

A very minor misfeature to fix for the next release. line 246 of CalendarTag.py has s = s + '<font color="%(leftfgcolor)s">' which renders literally since leftfgcolor is not in the namespace. It makes all the month names in the year view a ghastly green on my machine. Change it to s = s + '<font color="%s">' % v['leftfgcolor'] and it works better. Interesting that the %(foo)s syntax can hide bugs this way....??

Implementing new REQUESTED_METHOD handlers

Hi, Is it possible to have a Product (or an External Method) handle, say, a MOVE REQUESTED_METHOD? I'm trying to make a Product which handles Netscape Roaming profiles, but to do that, I need Zope to handle the not standard MOVE method. These methods are normally handled by the webserver, i think. Isn't there an API to extend/modify the webserver included with zope (like you can modify apache with eg. mod_perl?) Jeroen

I could then connect to remote Unix-hosted Oracle databases OK with the Zope ODBCDA (ignoring some problems with date/time fields which I'm told have now been fixed). I've never fathomed what the "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" driver (the "names in quotes" above are how they appear to me in the NT ODBC control panel) - that seems to be part of the standard NT issue - can actually do? broken ZMySQLDA II

I've come closer to the solution but not close enough... I overlooked an error occuring in the "python build.py" step, because after the first time I installed zope successfully I wrote an install-script to do the work for me the next time. Ok, the error-message is: ImportError: libmysqlclient.so.6: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory I remembered that the last time I saw this error I created a link mysql in /usr/lib/ pointing to /usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql. But this time it didn't do the job. I also edited the Setup file ...-L/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql. Still not found. But it is there. What's going wrong? Ragnar

MySQLDA on Solaris

Hello Everyone. It has been a while since I have messed around with Zope, at least a month or so. Anyway, I am trying to get connectivity from Zope to a MySQL database. I am having some trouble, I am not sure if this is related to solaris, or the ZMySQLDA. Currently I am testing Solaris 7 x86, when everything works, and I learn more it will be upsized to Sparc hardware. I get the following error then I try to 'build' MySQLDA: ld -G _mysqlmodule.o -L/usr/local/mysql/lib -lmysqlclient -o _mysqlmodule.so Traceback (innermost last): File "build.py", line 14, in ? import MySQLdb File "MySQLdb.py", line 19, in ? from _mysql import * ImportError: ld.so.1: python: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.6: symbol __udivdi3: referenced symbol not found Everything seems to be in the correct places - is that symbol part of something I might not have installed? Any help on this would be great. -chris
