The download list at zope.org does not have any releases between 2.7.3 and 2.8. We've been using 2.7.6 and would like to be able to download clean copies...

Zope Corporation is pleased to announce the release of version 1.5.2beta2 of the Zope Content Management Framework (CMF). This release is intended for testing purposes only; we do not recommend deploying it to production servers. The final release of version 1.5.2 is expected mid-July 2005. What is the CMF? getSecurityManager() vs. AUTHENTICATED_USER

I've learnt that it's better to use getSecurityManager instead of REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER because it's more secure. Other than that, what is the difference. I fear I've come a across a situation when getSecurityManager() returns nothing where AUTHENTICATED_USER did. I'm currently trying to reproduce the situation but it might involve odd URL usage and it's a bore to have to restart the browser every time. Problems with temporary connections

I need to make a temporary connection to the ZODB. I have really good reasons relating to performance and not wanting have objects in the current cache getting removed from the cache on why I don't want to make use of the connections in the pool. I can elaborate on this if really nescessary... The supposed way to get a temporary connection would be: conn = Globals.DB.open(temporary=1) which works fine. The problem is that one cannot: conn.close() as this puts the connector back into the pool, where it shouldn't go and if you do it, causes all kinds of nasty lockups, etc. I have read some old posts that advise against using temporary connectors as this can lead to memory leaks (as I can attest to after trying to use them) and that temporary connections seem to be "broken". How can I get a connector, that will not be used by other normal processes, that I can release cleanly when I am finished with it? Or at least ensure that one of the connectors in the pool is reserved for a specific process and that that connector will only be used by that process. Can I do this by giving a "version" to the connector? Any suggestions? Etienne

Without this your connectiion will just hang at the urlopen command, *as there is no timeout*. Also look out for what others have aid in respect to https, no expirience with that myself. There are some applications for Plone to use PayPal (PloneMall / PlonePayPal), you might want to look at these for sample code too. Regards, Sascha

Pluggable Auth Service ... how is it used?

I'd like to get session-based login going, and on the surface PAS appears to support that. First up, is there any documentation? I've set up in my PAS "acl_users" the following objects: 1. "cookies" - a Cookie Auth Helper active for Challenge 2. "session" - a Session Auth Helper active for Extraction, Update Credentials and Reset Credentials 3. "users" - a ZODB User Manager with a single user "test" 4. "roles" - a ZODB Role Manager with the "test" user assigned to "Manager" Then accessing a "Manager" protected method inside the folder brings up the login form from the Cookie Auth Helper, but submitting that form does nothing (it returns the empty form to me). Switching the "cookies" object to handle Extraction, Update Credentials and Reset Credentials makes the login work, but I'd like to use the session. The docs that come with the product talk about Decorators and Property Sheets used to extend the user properties, but I can't even find anything with either of those names in the UI. The interface has "Scriptable Plugin" with a teasingly disabled "Validation" interface -- which I have found to mean user validation. I'd like to enforce valid email address capture ... when I can figure how to actually capture an email address, that is. Richard

Things are working for the most part, except that this method for some reason dies when using urllib.urlopen(), and what is really wierd is that I get no error message, it just hangs. I am running an older version of zope, but I have never seen this behaviour before. The debug (-D) flag is set in start. here is the code I am using...
