[ANN] DTML Repository Patch 0.1.0 Available
by LEE, Kwan Soo 13 Jan '00

13 Jan '00

This "patch" enables one to choose the text of the newly added DTML Document/Method from the templates *at the server* instead of the hard-coded default_dd/dm_html texts. Please see, http://www.zope.org/Members/kslee/DTML_Repository_Patch for more infomation.

Have you tried http://classic.zope.org:8080/? Using ZClass properties for a DB Connection String?
by J C Lawrence 13 Jan '00

13 Jan '00

Given a ZClass which contains a property sheet and a DB Connection method with associated ZSQL methods that depend on it, can I define the connection string for the DB Connection method in terms of attributes defined on the property sheet? If so, how? I've not got it to work so far. This seems like a useful thing -- to be able to make a ZCLass whose instances can be bound to whatever DB that specific instance wishes...or am I missing something? -- J C Lawrence Home: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Other: coder(a)kanga.nu --=| A man is as sane as he is dangerous to his environment |=--

Any experience? I fiddled with it a bit, and got fed up and went back to Apache+mod_ssl When combined with mod_fcgi, it's very neat. :) Anthony

Possible Documentation Omission...
by J.P. Racine 13 Jan '00

13 Jan '00

Hi, In the faq, I thing that there needs to be a correction made. It's on the first few pages of the DHTML Doumentation page. http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Guides/DTML-HTML/DTML.5.1.html > Hello World! > > The dtml-var tag is called an singleton tag , because it does not contain any other tags. Tags which are duplex contain bracketed text which may contain other DTML tags. Duplex tags > require a matching end tag . The name of the end tag is the same as the start tag, except that it contains a " / " or an " end " prefix. End tags do not have attributes. A > commonly used duplex > tag is the dtml-f tag: > *** Should the above not read "tag is the dtml-if tag:" ? > <dtml-if input_name> > Hello <dtml-var input_name>. > </dtml-if> J.P. Zope and SSL
by Joachim Werner 13 Jan '00

13 Jan '00

In http://www.egroups.com/group/medusa/47.html I read about using "STunnel" (http://mike.daewoo.com.pl/computer/stunnel/) to add SSL functionality to Medusa. As ZServer is derived from Medusa, this should work for Zope, too. Has anyone tried to use this combination? Any experience? I'm asking because I like the idea of having ONLY ZServer running as a web server, not a combination of ZServer and Apache. The only thing I'd need Apache (or Roxen) for, would be the SSL support. BTW: Is native SSL support planned for ZServer?

Sounds like a perfect fit for a Keyword Index. Keyword indexes have been added in Zope 2.1.0 beta 1. From the CHANGES.txt file: Keyword indexes allow you to index a sequence of 'keywords' as an atomic property of an object. This is useful for building categorical hierarchies. With a Keyword index, you index a sequences, so anything that's a list or a tuple. Each element of that sequence is treated like a Field in a FieldIndex. So, if your object has a property 'subjects' that returns a list of 'Help' and 'Monkeys', a search for a subject of either one of these will return that object. Re: AUTHENTICATED_USER?
by Borno Janekovic 13 Jan '00

A new question on the old one. Is it possible to set the object value of AUTHENTICATED_USER. The Dokumentation says it is not possible. Something like <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('AUTHENTICATED_USER','new_user')"> where new_user is a User from the User_Folder. Borno >>>>> "GD" == Guy Davis writes: GD> <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER == 'Anonymous User'" > Use <dtml-if "_.str(AUTHENTICATED_USER)=='Anonymous User'"> AUTHENTICATED_USER is an object, not just a string -- Sent through Global Message Exchange - http://www.gmx.net

Re: [Zope] ZopeTime() not matching system time.

>>> Bill Anderson wrote > On one of my sites, I am stuffing a database field with a datetime. > However, for some reason, the return form ZopeTime() seems to be almost > 5 hours off. Would this site perchance be on UTC-5 or UTC+5 ? If so, it's probably just that the TZ env var isn't being set inside the environment that Zope's running inside. So it's falling back to UTC. (now if someone can explain to me why VisaNet returns results that are sometimes in UTC and sometimes in some local timezone, seemingly at random, then I'd be happy...)

Check out doc/LOGGING.txt in your Zope installation - in particular the bits dealing with STUPID_FILE_LOGGER if you want to log to a file. Best place for setting the environment variables is in Zope's start script, or in Zope.cgi if Zope is being started through this mechanism. > (An aside, surely these go+w permissions on Data.fs and var are > dangerous in terms of a local user destroying my ZODB?). Its possible - but I have never bothered :-) It also wouldn't help much, as what you need to test is the settings Zope is using when running (eg. the STUPID_FILE_LOGGER env variable is set correctly, or ZSYSLOG_SERVER is pointing to the correct machine). If you are able to restart Zope, run it in debug mode and see what happens. In debug mode, messages sent to the log system are displayed on the console. You can use this to test the Logger product, and subsequently your Zope logging settings. -- ___ // Zen (alias Stuart Bishop) Work: zen(a)cs.rmit.edu.au // E N Senior Systems Alchemist Play: zen(a)shangri-la.dropbear.id.au //__ Computer Science, RMIT WWW: http://www.cs.rmit.edu.au/~zen
