Simple Acquisition Question

I have a newbie question concerning acquisition. I was playing around the other day trying to build a simple web site. I was taking some existing web pages and refactoring them into what I thought might be reusable bits and pieces. I ended up with a structure something like this: / Pages <... DTML methods to generate complete pages ...> Parts <... DTML methods containing page parts ...> I built my page parts first and viewed them to make sure they looked ok. I then attempted to build a page. I started to assemble the pieces when I ran into a couple of problems. My first problem was figuring out how to access my "Parts". First I tried something like: <dtml-var Parts/partName> but that didn't work. After doing a little more reading, I came to the conclusion that I needed to do something like: <dtml-with Parts><dtml-var partName></dtml-with> This sort of worked. The problem is that some of my parts are designed to pick up information from the component which is containing it. For example, one part might have code like this: <dtml-var contents> I defined a default DTMLMethod called contents at the Root level, but I want to be able to redefine it at a lower level. For example, a DTMLMethod contained in the Pages folder needs to define its own implementation of contents. I was hoping that I could reference my generic part from Parts but have the part acquire the "contents" from the page which was utilizing the part. However, my part always displayed the contents from the root level. I'm thinking that this is because when I use dtml-with to access the part, the part will get namespaces which include itself and its parent folders, but will not contain the namespace of the caller (or the namespace appears earlier in the namespace list). Is this mostly correct? Is there a way to accomplish what I want to do, namely access a DTMLMethod in some other portion of the tree but have the accessed method resolve its variables in the callers namespace? Finally, does the fact that I'm facing this problem indicate that I'm just not structuring my data in a very "zopeish" manner, or am I just not knowledgeable about all the ways to use acquisition. Calling a stored function with the Oracle DA

All, The "begin procedure (x, y, ..); end;" syntax works for procedures okay, but how do I call a function? The typical quick & dirty way in sqlplus is variable x number -- or whatever begin :x := function (a, b, ...); end; This function actually does updating, so I can't use the pragmas to make it acceptable in a select. I had a similar problem the week before, when i wanted to grant the right to create class instances to a role. The Permission "Add Link" (Link is the Name of the Class) wasn't enough. Even if i assigned ALL permissions that the "Manager" role has to the user role, it didn't work. The only way that worked for me was to assign the "local rule" of "Manager" to the user role. So you should create a Folder which will contain all News Articles and in the Folder permission tab, click on "local roles" an assign the "Manager" role to your user account. One question remains for me: What is the reason for a "Add Instance" permission, if it doesn't work for my Products? The "Add Documents,.." permission works, but permissions for my product not. Is there something wrong with my products, my understanding of Zope security or with Zope? (I assume not with Zope, but what did i get wrong?) Jan -- Dipl.-Inform. A couple questions: 1) Under Zope, how do I get the parth to the current method/document, or in PHP terms, is there an equivalent to $PHP_SELF? eg I have a DTML method: http://.../Folder/method And I want that method to internally generate HTML ala: <a href="method?variable=XYZ"> How do I get the URL path to the current invoking method so I can construct the appropriate HREF? How do I do it if the method is called by another method (possibly several removed) ala Method1 calls method2 calls method3 which generates the HREF? 2) I have a DTML method that is generating a page from an SQL database. This is working fine. However what I want is for various links and fields on that page to invoke that same DTML method again except with different variable values. I am expecting that I can do this CGI-style as above with "?variable1=XYZ&variable2=QRS" on the URL (see the Q above). Is this true? Is there a way that I can pass values from the URL to a DTML method in a more intuitive fashion, say if the DTML method is under: http://.../folder/method Can I call it as so: http://.../folder/method/XYZ or http://.../folder/method/XYZ/QRS and have XYZ and QRS passed appropriately as arguments/variables to the DTML method much in the manner that your category path is passed in the URL for Yahoo? eg: http://dir.yahoo.com/Reference/Dictionaries/English/ -- J C Lawrence Home: claw(a)kanga.nu ----------(*) Other: coder(a)kanga.nu --=| A man is as sane as he is dangerous to his environment |=--

(Michael, I moved this from the zope-dev mailing list to the zope mailing list because its content is more suited for the latter...) When you say that you can't you "move files bidirectionally" via FTP what do you mean? Do you mean you can download but can't upload? Zope's doesn't currently provide much more than FTP or WebDAV for interactive content editing in WYSIWYG or remote-editing tools. Devising methods to improve this situation is one of the goals of the Zope-Mozilla project, which I believe is still basically in the inception phase. If you've got ideas about how we can ease some of your Zope-caused pain, this is probably a suitable forum to let us know... Michael Waddell wrote: > > I searched zope.org for FTP. Seeking a customisable 'portal' app

Greetings. We have here a need to set up an in-house portal-like web site. Something where individual users can customise their appearance of the site so that its content is appropriate to the bandwidth of their net connection. I am thinking that someone may already have such a thing within a Zope application. Can anyone supply me with some pointers? TIA, Andrew.

Just a quick followup to my own post - I eventually downloaded the CVS src, and dug into src/wrapper.c - the filter stuff has been disabled in CVS, as it had some nasty bugs that no-one was willing to fix.
