I would like to upgrade my current zope installation (2.1.4 in rpm format) to the new one (2.1.6). Can you tell me how to do that easy ? Zope is running on Linux box. -- Cédric Wuidard ATON Belgium cwuidard(a)belgium.aton.net Avenue Reine Astrid, 7 cedric.wuidard(a)excite.com B-1440 Wauthier-Braine ICQ : 1063519 Belgium Tel : +32 2 366 25 08 Fax : +32 2 366 25 14

DTML Methods and Documents have a 'proxy' tab. By 'factory' I didn't think you were talking about a Factory, but a method that does a factoryish type thing. -Michel

How can I improve error messages?
by Gustin Kiffney 11 Jan '00

OK, I've been hammered for the past couple of days because I was witless enough to use 'client' and 'id' as field names in SQL methods. I should have known better, I suppose, but that's the point of being a newbie - you DON'T know better, and really, you can't. Here's the super-uninformative error message I was getting: Error: TypeError: keyword parameter redefined SQL: Could not render the query template! And the HTML source indicated only that the problem was with my sql method - which I knew, because I'd been testing it over and over again, making unhelpful changes, hoping the magic cave would open and this ridiculous query would run. I grepped through the ZOPE source and apparently the phrase 'keyword parameter redefined' is emitted by Python, not Zope. Looking now through the Zope Quick Reference Guide there appear to be many names I can't use, which is OK, but a more robust system would tell me more about what went wrong. I guess this is a rap against Python more than Zope, but could these error messages possibly be extended to say something like ERROR: TypeError: 'client' keyword parameter redefined Or maybe could Zope trap this kind of error rather than letting Python handle it, which really doesn't generate extremely lucid error messages as a rule anyway? That would have saved the drywall in my office which has many head-shaped dents in it right now.

newbie question: Adding DTML Document in a 'subdirectory'
by Lucas Hofman 11 Jan '00

11 Jan '00

Can anyone tell me how to (in DTML) create a document in any other location as the script containing the manage_addDTMLDocument statement? i.e. manage_addDTMLDocument('id','title','contents') generates a document named id on the same level as the method containing the statement. However, I would like to have it 2 levels down in the 'tree'. Thanks for any suggestions, Lucas Hofman -- PGS Seres tel: +47 67514059 PO Box 354 fax: +47 67526506 N-1324 Lysaker Norway

Give your factory method a 'proxy role' of manager. This way, someone with non-manager privledges can do things like add instances only if they call your method the way you want them to. -Michel > -----Original Message----- > From: Timothy Wilson [mailto:wilson@visi.com] > Sent: Monday, January 10, 2000 9:12 PM > To: Zope listserv > Subject: [Zope] adding instance w/o management access > > > Hi everyone, > > I've got a certain role assigned to people who I want to be > able to create > an instance of a ZClass. Acquisition acting wierd
by Itamar Shtull-Trauring 11 Jan '00

We have the following folder structure /-| |-standard_html_header | |-all_about/- | | | |-standard_html_header | | |-foods/----- | |-cheese http://zope:8080/foods/all_about/cheese or http://zope:8080/all_about/foods/cheese should acquire standard_html_header from all_about, not from the root folder. But instead the stand_html_header from the top level is displayed. What's wrong here? -- Itamar S.T. itamars(a)ibm.net

Maybe because cheese ia a Food object, not a dtml-method of foods. So my problem is in fact with http://zope:8080/foods/all_about/cheese/index_html that takes the root s_h_h, not the all_about one. What's the acquisition tree in this case? And is there anything I can do? -- Itamar S.T. itamars(a)ibm.net
