When in debug mode, Zope won't disconnect from the console. If you need to stay in debug mode, then doing a 'nohup ./start &' will work. If you don't need debug mode, then edit the start script in the root Zope directory and remove the "-D" switch. (Take a look at z2.py to see more startup switches.) Call for FastCGI problems
by Amos Latteier 31 Dec '99

31 Dec '99

Hi, I'm going to revisit FastCGI support and work on some optimizations soon, and want to hear about it if you are having FastCGI problems. I see a couple FastCGI problems listed in the Collector, but judging from the traffic on the Zope lists, there may be a couple more problems out there. Here's you chance to complain. Please file your bug report now with as much information as possible. The more you can tell me, the better the chances that I'll be able to fix your problem. http://classic.zope.org:8080/Collector Thanks! -Amos -- Amos Latteier mailto:amos@digicool.com Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com

ANOTHER NEWBIE QUESTION

Greetings, How do you modify Linux so that the Zope Server "ZSERVER" starts automatically? I'm running LINUX RedHat 6.1. Also, starting Zope at the prompt #./start causes zope to run but it does not return the prompt. I have to use a 2nd virtual console to get the back into the system. I did not have this problem using the RPM's but now it seems to be specific with source zope. Dave

Newbiew question - ZClass Securiy
by Chandran S 30 Dec '99

30 Dec '99

Hi, I'm a newbie for Zope and and using ZClass for the first time. I created a class called UserAccount that holds the pertinent info for a user. I would like an anonymous user ie anyone to create an instance on the ZClass but it is complaining that the anonymous user is not authorized to access the class. When I try to run the DTML that tries to do the createInObjectmanager as the "manager" everything works fine. Where is the security setting of the ZClass that I need to change to allow anyone to create an instance. Thanks for any help. fmt=whole-dollars
by Timothy Grant 30 Dec '99

30 Dec '99

Hi, I just ran across a little puzzler: <dtml-var totalprice fmt=whole-dollars> produces output like $12345, I kind of expected $12,345 so I changed it to fmt=dollars-and-cents and got $12345.00 Do neither of those format strings produce commas? -- Stand Fast, tjg. PID Error with PCGI
by rgines＠purina.com 30 Dec '99

30 Dec '99

Well I thought I would look into running Zope alongside Apache using the PCGI and associated wrapper on NT. Since all indications were that this was rather straightforward I dove in. I have a feeling that I am having a problem getting Apache to run the wrapper, but I don't think that is the heart of the problem. When I kick off Zope I get the following information. >---cutline ---< D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite>"D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite\bin\python.exe" " D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite\z2.py" -D -p "D:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\CGI-BIN\zope.pcgi" ------ 1999-12-29T23:46:34 PROBLEM(100) ZServer Computing default hostname ------ 1999-12-29T23:46:34 INFO(0) ZServer Medusa (V1.10) started at Wed Dec 29 17:46:34 1999 Hostname: w2041025.ppe.ralston.com Port:8080 ------ 1999-12-29T23:46:34 INFO(0) ZServer FTP server started at Wed Dec 29 17:46:34 1999 Authorizer:None Hostname: w2041ddd Port: 8021 ------ 1999-12-29T23:46:34 ERROR(200) ZServer Cannot write PID file. ------ 1999-12-29T23:46:34 INFO(0) ZServer Monitor Server (V1.5) started on port 8099 >---end cutline ---< I'm not sure what could be causing the PID write problem. Access Control should not be the issue. I have applied no access controls to the directory in question and the process is running as an Admin. Here is a copy of my zope.pcgi file. >---cutline ---< #!"D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite\pcgi\win32\pcgi-wrapper.exe" PCGI_NAME=GynzerWebSite PCGI_PORT=8090 PCGI_MODULE_PATH="D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite\lib\python\Main.py" PCGI_PUBLISHER="D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite\pcgi\pcgi_publisher.py" PCGI_EXE="D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite\pcgi" PCGI_SOCKET_FILE="D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite\pcgi\pcgi.soc" PCGI_ERROR_LOG="D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite\pcgi\pcgi.log" PCGI_PID_FILE="D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite\pcgi\pcgi.pid" PCGI_DOSPLAY_ERRORS=1 BOBO_REALM=Zope BOBO_DEBUG_MODE=1 INSTANCE_HOME="D:\Program Files\GynzerWebSite" >---end cutline ---< Any assistance would be appreciated. If someone has successfully gotten Zope/Apache/PCGI to work with virtual hosting on NT and would be willing to share their httpd.conf and zope.pcgi files it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
