PCGI vs FastCGI under Apache?

Fundamentally, my question is "should I try PCGI or FastCGI?", but first, some background. I'm planning on running Zope under Apache. While the site root will map to Zope, there are legacy applications I want to be able to run, thus the Apache. To avoid possible firewall hastles, I essentially want Zope and Apache operations taking place on the same port (80). For an authentication mechanism, I want to use LDAP. So I'm thinking that I'll be having Apache do the LDAP authentication, and add the RewriteRule to pass authentication info to Zope. But how should I run Zope? I'm not really clear on what works/is stable. It sounds like mod_pcgi2 is revision 0.1.0, so I'm nervous about going with that. And it sounds like the fastcgi support is relatively new to Zope, and requires that I fetch a development snapshot for fastcgi. Are there other options I haven't figured out yet? For those of you who have done this, what works for you? Thanks in advance for any advice.

E-TML ??

Hello 1. I want to be able to email dtml directly to some zopesites and have them accept my email, parse the headers/message body so that DMTL autmoatically will be uploaded, and/or overwritten, all without any need to manually ever go near a web browser. 2. To be able to send email to make various 'calls' to the site.. 3. To have a bunch of Zopesites tuned to a special zopista newsgroup. Posting to the newsgroup would allow timestamped threaded data/messages to be parsed in correct order. One wierd and to me wonderful feature of this would be to allow the news thread structure to dictate the Zope acquisition context. The participating Zope sites would have many layers, conpnents and methods realting to spatial-temporal data. Upgrades and linked metadata for these coudl thus be directed simply and __visibly__ by posting and subscribing to the 'smart-zope' newsgroup. The contexts ordering and behaviour of the elements at many sites could thus be remotely shared and controlled. Local access to to each site could then be monitored by triggering 'reply' posts to the newsgroup thread. At a glance one could then see the action across a set of intelinked sites. A special 'mission control' zope site could also parse these newsgroup thread datasets and visualize them plus have overview Admin web pages.. Any ideas/inspiration how best to do this? It would obviously be necessary to have a core 'product' or External method ready to accept such messages. And likewise, to have a _minimal_ syntax for such messages: Mostly the body mesasges woudl be 3 types: - clean DMTL [if that exists ;-)] - Python - data [structured text?/XML?] ++ binaries which could be the usual, plus graphic specific ones, plus perhasp Python pickled/shelved objects Am I crazy - is this a montrous idea representing a huge amountof work? Or is this somthign which could in fact be simply implremented, its power coming from the emergent positive effects of multiple sites and use over time? It's 'render' method gets the current namespace dictionary when called, and it looks up the value of 'REQUEST' and 'RESPONSE' from that. tags behave differently to products... for further reading, look at lib/python/TreeDisplay/TreeTag.py Anthony

I am trying to set and get a cookie from a Zope product. Do I need to pass in the REQUEST to get at the cookies and the response? If the answer is yes, then why does the tree tag not have to pass in the REQUEST? Drew

Let me proffer some simple instructions. I will have to make some assumptions, so feel free to ask questions. check your python version. It must be 1.5.2 or better. I can't seem to find a way to make python print a version number, so the best way to figure out the version is to check your rpm listing (rpm -aq) Uninstall the RPM. unzip the source distribution change directory in zope-2.1.1-src assuming you only want to run in Zserver (easiest to start with), type 'python wo_pcgi.py' at the prompt. Make sure that python and your c compiler are in your path (a redhat system only needs /usr/bin in your path) Set the super user password to something you can remember ('python zpasswd.py -u superuser -p <a_new_password> access') Once it is done compiling, run the start script by typing './start' If any of these stages fail, send the error listing to me (or the list). Installing the MySQL adaptor is a relatively painless procedure, provided you have mysql 3.22.25 or less. The current version is 3.22.27, and it breaks the adaptor. Type mysql and check the version. If you have a version lower than 3.22.26, you are fine. unzip the ZMySQLDA product in your zope directory. It will put a bunch of stuff in the <zope>/lib/python/Products directory apply the ZMySQLDA.patch file to the product (Instructions are at the top of the ZMySQLDA.patch file) cd to lib/python/Products/ZMySQLDA/src type: make -f Makefile.pre.in boot type: make copy the MySQLModule.so up on directory to the ZMySQLDA directory ('cp MySQLModule.so ..') test the module by running python at the prompt and typing 'import MySQL' and make sure it gives no errors. Restart zope. MySQL DB connections should now be available. --sam

Hi, I'm trying to get MySQL installed with Zope and Linux. I can get Zope, Python, Zserver and Linux running with the RPM's. What I can't seem to be able to do is install the MySQL database connection. I have read the docs from alanprog who says thatI must use the source version of Zope. I have tried to install the source without any success. I reloaded linux and tried the source Zope. I get several errors about Z2.py and a lack of permission. After installing Python devel most errrors went away. Is there some docs on source installation?

etcUserFolder

zopists, I put an etcUser folder inside my Zope main forlder and now I can't get to the management interface. return decimal values from ZSQL (Oracle) [Q]

Hello... I am sorry to repost this message, but I didn't receive any reply so I presume that, since I sent this email on Dec 25, it passed un-noticed ;-) I have an Oracle table where a field is a NUMBER .... I do a SELECT field FROM oratable and I get "2.29" ... (without quotes ;-) But when doing the same SELECT from a ZSQL I get "2" ... no decimals. I don't know if it's an Oracle specific problem... Anyone has a clue? I tryied using the TO_NUMBER(field, '9999.99') function but it returns "2"... TIA /B Bruno Mattarollo <brunomadv(a)ciudad.com.ar>
