some advice for a news site

We have a project of a Web-zine that has to run on a Linux box. I heard about Zope and I'm impressed so far. The site will have functionality like "related news" and "send this to a friend". We also need to be able to categorize the content/news and search with keywords. There will be "subscribers" that will receive daily tips with links to the news on the Web site. Those will be stored in a RDBMS. We took a look at PHP3 and MySQL as an interesting choice, but after reading about Zope we would like to take the better alternative. Is it possible to use the Z ODB to store the news instead of a RDBMS, without loosing the functionality we need?... Maybe a combination of Zope and MySQL?. Any advice would be appreciated. Add Property to DTML Documents

I uploaded 200 existing html files to a Zope folder as DTML Documents. THe files were named with a pre-Y2K scheme ala: hb980712.html I want to add a date Property that in this example would be 1998/07/12 I added a few dates manually when I decided to create a simple External Method called "hbdate" that gets self.id() and slices it and appends the 19 and the /s. In my article folder I have DTML Method that looks like this:  <dtml-unless date> <dtml-if "meta_type=='DTML Document'"> <dtml-var hbdate> </dtml-if> </dtml-unless>  and it produces the appropriate date value for all the DTML Documents. When I replace the <dtml-var hbdate> with: <dtml-call "manage_addProperty('date', hbdate, 'date')"> I get following Zope Error: Error Type: Invalid Date-Time String Error Value: In viewing the source of Zope frame I can see the values for the files, but I also see a blank double space before the first value as if the external method is evaluating some extra document that does not produce a value. Hello, I have created a website http://zope.sistelnet.es/ with resources of interest for Spanish speaking Zope users and developers. It is a site in Spanish that runs Squishdot. I hope it serves as a meeting point for people Spanish speaking poople interested in Zope. It will provide, news, resources and documentation in Spanish, Zope powered sites in Spanish, interationalization issues, python and Zope links, etc... and of course my rants from time to time. XMLDocument question

I'm beginning to work with XMLDocument and I have a question. I'm a pretty green Zope newbie, so please excuse me if this is naive. I'm able to import XML documents to form a tree of elements and access those elements based on their 'e#' id notation; attributes also get parsed correctly into properties. I've modified a display method from the Examples files to return the text content of any element in response to a url request, so things seem to be working correctly. What's the strategy behind the id notation approach to access? It's pretty unwieldy given that you must view the document's display in the management interface to see what ids are there, and ids change when the document is edited. Is there a way to use the tag names in a url to target particular parts of the document? The alternate access method based on the numerical sequence of elements through the hierarchy is useful for iteration and documents of rigid structure, but less useful than tag names with more flexible documents when a particular element or subtree is desired. Since the slideshow example uses tag names along with objectValues to target particular document content for display, the names are clearly there (somewhere) and usable ... maybe I'm just thinking about this the wrong way. If someone could post some additional example code dealing with tag name manipulation, it would probably be really helpful to me. If I have a form variable in a dtml document like <input type="hidden" name="milestoneid" value=43> and when I try to run the sql method(below) to update the db form a form submission (to another dtml doc which calls the sql method) I get "Invalid integer value for milestoneid " My sql method looks like this: update task set milestoneid=<dtml-sqlvar milestoneid type=int>, task_name=<dtml-sqlvar task_name type=string>, description=<dtml-sqlvar description type=string>, task_date=<dtml-sqlvar task_date type=string>, hours=<dtml-sqlvar hours type=string>, username=<dtml-sqlvar username type=string>, status=<dtml-sqlvar status type=string> WHERE taskid=<dtml-sqlvar taskid type=int> Another intersting fast is that when I test the sql method in the management interface, I get the result shown below, but the update statement in fact succeeds.
