can't update integer values in oracle
by Adam Gotheridge 02 Dec '99

02 Dec '99

If I have a form variable in a dtml document like <input type="hidden" name="milestoneid" value=43> and when I try to run the sql method(below) to update the db form a form submission (to another dtml doc which calls the sql method) I get "Invalid integer value for milestoneid " My sql method looks like this: update task set milestoneid=<dtml-sqlvar milestoneid type=int>, task_name=<dtml-sqlvar task_name type=string>, description=<dtml-sqlvar description type=string>, task_date=<dtml-sqlvar task_date type=string>, hours=<dtml-sqlvar hours type=string>, username=<dtml-sqlvar username type=string>, status=<dtml-sqlvar status type=string> WHERE taskid=<dtml-sqlvar taskid type=int> Another intersting fast is that when I test the sql method in the management interface, I get the result shown below, but the update statement in fact succeeds. " This was not a query. " SQL used: update task set milestoneid=43, task_name='test', description='test update', task_date='', hours='', username='bryant', status='OPEN' WHERE taskid=233 Please help. ZMySQLDA product problem?
by Art Hampton 02 Dec '99

02 Dec '99

We've been having problems with the ZMySQLDA product, as installed using the instructions at http://yyy.zope.org/Members/alanpog/zmysqlda_steps . The product seems to break for some unknown reason. I've seen it happen as a result of the following events: o Rebooting the machine (while Zope is running) o Installing another product (including stopping and restarting Zope) We get the following message in our SQL DB connection: _______ This object is broken because the ZMySQLDA product that created it is no longer installed or is installed incorrectly. Please contact your product vendor for assistance. Note that the data associated with this product has not been lost, and will be accessible again if the product is reinstalled. _______ If we remove the ZMySQLDA product tree and then follow the instructions referenced above, it works again after restarting Zope. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this a known bug? Any suggestions? Thanks.

ANNOUNCE: Digital Creations & Fast Engines press release
by Paul Everitt 02 Dec '99

02 Dec '99

FYI: http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news?p=Zope (Note: this URL might not work for too long) >From FastEngine's side of the press release: "Fast Engines, the leader in web server acceleration software, announced today that it has teamed up with Digital Creations, creator of Zope and the leader in Open Source web development, to provide commercial-grade scalability for the Zope web application server." I'll have the announcement on our site later today, after I put out another announcement. Press releases generally require a translation, so here goes. Our commercial customers want a way to do load balancing with our ZEO services. Fast Engines makes a supported, cross-server, cross-platform version of FastCGI that adds load balancing techniques. We will be pitching that as an option for our commercial customers. --Paul Paul Everitt Digital Creations paul(a)digicool.com 540.371.6909 ----------------------------------------- The Open Source Zope application server http://www.zope.org/

It doesn't really matter past seven threads, you can fire up as many as you want but there is a hardwired limit on database connections, 7. -Michel

regex question
by Sam Gendler 02 Dec '99

02 Dec '99

I have never been much of a regex master, and I am having difficulty constructing one that should be fairly simple. I want to find all the text that is between <body> and </body> in a variable that may (and probably will) contain newlines. I am removing case insensitive searches in the following examples in order to make the regex's simpler. To grab find the opening <body> tag, I have '<[\t ]*body[\t ]*.*>' which is almost correct, but not quite. This expression finds <bodystuff>, too, so I really need something that finds '<\t ]*body(\t ]+.*>)|(>)', but I can't find a construct that works. Basically, it needs at least one whitespace followed by stuff followed by '>', or else it needs no whitespace followed by '>' I can use similar code to find the </body> tag. However, putting those two together around a \(\(.*\n*\)*\), in order to match all the text between the <body> and </body> tags sends python into an infinite loop. It doesn't like it when I try to match an unlimited number of lines.before the </body> tag I could use two regsub.split calls to break the variable into its respective parts (assuming I can sort out the first problem), but regsub is written in python, while regex is written in c (or so I am told), so I would prefer to use regex. Please help. Generally, whenever I ask a mailing list for regex help, it always turns out to be somehing boneheaded that I am missing, so try not to laugh at me ;-) --sam

ZOracle - support for LOB [Q]
by Bruno Mattarollo 02 Dec '99

02 Dec '99

Hello. I am trying to fetch and insert LOB fields into Oracle8i... I have read the DCOracle.txt where it states that LOB are supported if fetchdone() is used. But are LOB supported using ZOracleDA? Has someone set up some Zope site using LOBs in Oracle8i? I need to store articles from our writers that are supposed to be superior to 4KB in size so VARCHAR2 is not enough and we do not want to store them in separate files because we want to have all inside our Oracle Database. Sorry to post so many questions in so many days, but we are getting closer to release date and I am trying to finish all our development. TIA /B Bruno Mattarollo <brunomadv(a)ciudad.com.ar> --- Python Powered <http://www.python.org/psa/>

RE: [Zope] How can I use manage_addFile???
by Michel Pelletier 02 Dec '99

Your problem is *probably* that you are calling the method with arguments in the wrong order. manage_addFile expects, id, then the file, then the title. A traceback would tell us for sure. -Michel

FW: Manila Ships!
by Jay, Dylan 02 Dec '99

This is basically a dummied down version of Zope with some stuff for free. It has a scheduler and event driven emails which Zope doesn't have (how would I produce an event when someone creates a new document in a certain folder using Zope?). It would be an interesting exercise to create a manila interface on top of Zope. I would imagine that something that the PTK will make easier. In any case I think a lot can be learnt (copied) from the way they are marketing it. i.e. "web publishing for the rest of us" and emphasizing separation of content designers and graphic designers and web people etc. -----Original Message----- From: dave(a)userland.com [mailto:dave@userland.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 01, 1999 11:20 PM To: dave(a)userland.com Subject: Manila Ships! Manila Ships! About Manila: "Manila is an Internet server application that allows groups of writers, designers and graphics people to manage full-featured, high performance web sites thru an easy-to-use browser interface. Manila is included with Frontier 6.1." "Manila is as simple or as deep as you want it to be. Few other Web products scale well in both directions -- you either wind up with easy-to-use homepage-building tools that can't handle dynamic sites, or you have complicated, expensive content-management platforms that aren't helpful for beginners or small sites. Manila lets anyone set up an interactive web site quickly and easily, without any client-side software, but that site can grow into a sophisticated, high-traffic site on the same platform. " Kevin Werbach, Managing Editor, Release 1.0. "Manila's Edit this Page feature is the metaphoric equivalent of WYSIWYG for the Internet age. I believe that it is a ben! efit to unify your browser navigation and website editing as opposed to distinguishing between what's on your hard disk and what's on the Internet." Jakob Nielsen, usability expert. This is what we've been working on in 1999, now it's ready for the people. The first official UserLand press release since 1993 will run over the PR Newswire in a half hour. We're also making an announcement with Microsoft, probably later today, in XML-based distributed computing protocols. We've been in a quiet period, doing lots of development. The rest of this year will be spent releasing all this new software, lots of firsts for us, and some for the web itself. You'll probably be hearing a lot more from us in the final weeks of this millennium. Let's have fun! © 1997-1999 UserLand Software, Inc. How to: unsubscribe.
