Incorrect content-type returned by ZServer
by David S. Harrison 01 Dec '99

I have a Zope 2.0.1 application that is working pretty well except that one page is given the wrong content-type by ZServer. The page in question is a DTML document with CGI parameters. I wrote a debugging application in Java to trap the input and output between the browser and the server. Here is a log from a successful transaction: 3>GET /test/QOR/TestCasePage?testcase=ct&days=14 HTTP/1.0 3>Referer: http://pc3-10:9099/test/QOR 3>Connection: Keep-Alive 3>User-Agent: Mozilla/4.7 [en] (WinNT; U) 3>Host: pc3-10:9099 3>Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, image/png, */* 3>Accept-Encoding: gzip 3>Accept-Language: en 3>Accept-Charset: iso-8859-1,*,utf-8 3> 3<HTTP/1.0 200 OK 3<Server: Zope/(unreleased version) ZServer/1.1b1 3<Date: Wed, 01 Dec 1999 18:27:56 GMT 3<Connection: close 3<Content-Type: text/html 3<Content-Length: 11285 3< 3<<HTML> ... The page as expected ... And here is the transaction from the unsuccessful transaction: 4>GET /test/QOR/TestCasePage?testcase=fa&days=14 HTTP/1.0 4>Referer: http://pc3-10:9099/test/QOR 4>Connection: Keep-Alive 4>User-Agent: Mozilla/4.7 [en] (WinNT; U) 4>Host: pc3-10:9099 4>Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, image/png, */* 4>Accept-Encoding: gzip 4>Accept-Language: en 4>Accept-Charset: iso-8859-1,*,utf-8 4> 4>HTTP/1.0 200 OK 4<Server: Zope/(unreleased version) ZServer/1.1b1 4<Date: Wed, 01 Dec 1999 18:28:05 GMT 4<Connection: close 4<Content-Type: application/octet-stream 4<Content-Length: 19571 4< 4<<HTML> Note that the two pages are exactly the same. The only difference is one CGI argument (testcase). But in the latter transaction, ZServer returns a content type of "application/octet-stream" instead of "text/html". This causes the browser to try to save the file instead of displaying it. Does this ring any bells? Any workarounds? Right now, this problem looks like it is not directly under my control. David S. GenericUserFolder authenticates but Zope rejects
by Andres Corrada 01 Dec '99

Hi, I've set-up GUF on a sub-folder of a site. This is the initial stage of installation so I'm just testing that I can log in as jorge:secret. GUF authenticates jorge but I get a rejection by Zope saying I did not provide the correct username and password. Anonymous has no rights on the subfolder. So I allow Anonymous to have view rights: Zope rejects again saying I'm not authorized to access "title_or_id". What permissions have to be set? Any documentation on this? ------------------------------------------------------ Andres Corrada-Emmanuel Email: andres(a)corrada.com Owner http://www.corrada.com/mamey Mamey Phone: (413) 587-9595 ------------------------------------------------------

htmllib question
by Sam Gendler 01 Dec '99

01 Dec '99

I thought I had a pretty clean solution for extracting all the contents between the <body> </body> tags of an uploaded html file, using the htmllib. Basically, in start_body, I call save_bgn(), and in end_body, I call save_end(), which was supposed to save all the contents between the two tags. Unfortunately, it saves only the content that isn't in html tags. All the subsequent tags get dropped. Does anyone know an easy way around this? The only method that I see is to overload the unknown tag functions to pu tthe tags back into a buffer, which is WAY more effort than it is worth. --sam

Python coding question
by Alwyn Schoeman 01 Dec '99

Hi, I know this is not a python list, but I hope someone will be able to help me. I have a c library implementing some functions. I have written a python module as a wrapper for this library. What I want to know is that if you have a C function like this: int Hello (char *somestring, int *someint) it now seems that python can get only the value sentback by return??? How can I send back to python changes in someint and somestring? Thank you -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alwyn Schoeman Systems Engineer Prism Secure Solutions

Trouble calling external method from userAuthenticate in GUF
by Andres Corrada 01 Dec '99

01 Dec '99

Hi, Here I am banging my head on the wall once again. Zope treats me so cruelly, it entices me with goodies but just when the plum is in my hand...it vanishes. I'm now trying to use GenericUserFolder to do a complex authentication procedure on a "members" page. I've wrapped GUF.userAuthenticate around an external method that resides in the acl_users folder, but Zope refuses to acknowledge the existence of the method. The GUF SQL How-To talks about using ZSQL methods, can I not use external methods inside the GUF hook functions? Thank you for your patience in dealing with this troubled newbie. ------------------------------------------------------ Andres Corrada-Emmanuel Email: andres(a)corrada.com Owner http://www.corrada.com/mamey Mamey Phone: (413) 587-9595 ------------------------------------------------------

The easiest thing to do would be to put the GUF at the root replacing the User Folder there(although I don't know what this entails... doing this incorrectly with UserDB apparently could lock you out of your site entirely). Otherwise, you will need to muck around with it a lot. I remember having this same issue when I first started messing around with Zope (you can see my pain by searching the mailing lists). You many times need to understand a lot about whats going on under the hood to use more than one UserFolderish object in a site. Hello, <dtml-var "ZopeTime('1999-12-01 GMT+2')" fmt="%d.%m.%Y"> <dtml-var "ZopeTime('GMT+2')" fmt="%d.%m.%Y"> results in: 30.11.1999 01.12.1999 regardless of the time of day. If seen questions about this many times and no solution. I just tested it one the Zope-site and that gives the same results. Thank you. I added a new role (one of the ones belonging to "jorge": "specialrole") and gave it "Access..." and "View" permissions and was able to view the restricted page after authenticating as "jorge:secret". This also solved the acquisition problem with standard_html_header, etc. ------------------------------------------------------ Andres Corrada-Emmanuel Email: andres(a)corrada.com Owner http://www.corrada.com/mamey Mamey Phone: (413) 587-9595 ------------------------------------------------------

corporations, accountability, and trade
by Ethan Fremen 01 Dec '99

leriati, I have a brief question. I'm of the opinion that changing the way organizations go about doing their thing is meta-programming on a macro scale, and is thus appropriate to this list. If anyone has any feelings about it that are stronger than their delete key, please let me know. OK. What organizations need: 1. they need to be more accountable. Every buisness or organization should be required to maintain open books- i.e., on the internet and also the way other public firms are. Small firms or non-profits might only need to put them on the net (can't make 'em bear dead-tree costs) 2. transaction-economies should be transparent. Every good or service should sell for market price. Government subsidizing of goods and services distorts the valuation, and should stop. Individuals and organizations may pool money to aquire goods and services, and in this manner replicate the social benefit supposedly deriving from governmental agency. 3. Governments should attempt to derive most of their income from providing regulatory services and begin to deemphasize tax-taking. For example, retirement could be funded by mandatory retirement funds, where 5% of your income over your lifetime would go into an account and invested as you see fit. It would be your money, not the governments. Individuals offering investments that qualify for the retirement fund would pay the government, and the government would ensure (not insure) that the investment vehicles met certain standards for stability and quality. This can be tricky because of conflict of interest issues, but I think it's manageable. 4. We need to focus more on our methods of accounting and attempt to capture more of the true costs of what we do in our transactional economies. This includes not subsidizing damaging behavior. -- Ethan "mindlace" Fremen you cannot abdicate responsibility for your ideology.

Gotta be a permissions issue.... or do you have two instances of any kind of user folder?
