Rather than waste energy grumbling about what a raw deal you got with zope documentation, now that you know the answer to something that really bugged you, please, please, please... create a "howto" on the www.zope.org site in your own member folder. Ask for comment on this list. When it's ready, create a news item and request that they be catalogued. That way, the knowledge can be found by future generations of zope users. Don't wait for someone else to do this for you. You get what you give. What goes around comes around. Etc. No-one else gets paid (much) to do this - this is open source folks. g.plivn-(a)itsystems.lv wrote: original article:http://www.egroups.com/group/zope/?start=15950 > Yeah, this was a question for two hours for me to seek out it in zope > documentation and I found it only in an example > Maybe someone can put this simple question in a little bit more reachable > place? > > Gints -- Dr Ross Lazarus Associate Professor and Sub-Dean for Information Technology Faculty of Medicine, A27, R126a, University of Sydney, Camperdown, NSW 2006, Australia Tel: (+61 2) 93514429 Mobile: +61414872482 Fax: (+61 2) 93516646 Email: rossl(a)med.usyd.edu.au http://www.health.usyd.edu.au/people/rossl.htm

Yeah, this was a question for two hours for me to seek out it in zope documentation and I found it only in an example Maybe someone can put this simple question in a little bit more reachable place? ZServer header and Netscape borwser
by Adonis El Fakih 01 Nov '99

Hi, I installed Zope 2.0.1 for Linux RH 5.2 with python 1.5.2. Everything works good, however when I visit the site with Netscape Communicator 4.61. I get to see the HTML source code instead of the page. I telneted to port 8080 and grabbed the output and the ZServer is sending Content-Type: plain/text instead of html/text. IE5 seems not to mind and displays the page correctly. Any pointers to what I am missing or where should I read further more, will be appretiated. Thanks in advance. Adonis

DTML: calling a method
by Scott Lewis 01 Nov '99

01 Nov '99

hi, i'm trying to write some difficult (for me :) DTML and my eyes are starting to cross. i'd appreciate any suggestions. i have a string with a method name and another string with the method arguments. currently the arguments string looks like this: "arg1='foo', arg2='bar'" but this format can altered if necessary. what is the DTML to call the method with the specified arguments? e.g: s1 = "amethod" s2 = "arg1='foo', arg2='bar'" without knowing the values of these strings until runtime, how do i do the equivalent of: <dtml-var "amethod(arg1='foo', arg2='bar')"> thanks in advance for any help, -scott ----- Scott Lewis Baltic Avenue Productions csl(a)balticave.com

Sure - try this in a dtml method (tested for a change !!) <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('flag',0)"> Flag is <dtml-var flag> <br> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('flag',1)"> Flag is <dtml-var flag> <br> "james w. howe" <jw-(a)allencreek.com> wrote: original article:http://www.egroups.com/group/zope/?start=15942 > Is there a way in a DTML method to create a new variable, assigning it an > initial value, and then change the value later? Re: [Zope] shopping cart app
by Kevin Dangoor 01 Nov '99

I've actually written one using ZClasses (see it at http://www.byproducts.com) It was not very difficult, but it is quite integrated with the rest of the site and therefore not in a good state to be released. (It also requires cookies, which is not ideal, IMHO). I'm hoping that interest in the ZCommerce project will pick up. The idea behind ZCommerce is to make an easily extensible, open source framework for commerce apps. (With good out-of-the-box functionality). Stupid DTML Question
by James W. Howe 01 Nov '99

01 Nov '99

Is there a way in a DTML method to create a new variable, assigning it an initial value, and then change the value later? Something like: flag = false if some condition flag = true if flag do something else do something else. I know that I can create a variable using Let, but I don't see how I can change the value of that variable after it has been created. Thanks. Seeking Zope programmer
by E. Pelletier 31 Oct '99

31 Oct '99

My company is developing a Zope portal website that will also be our company's Intranet. As our deadline approaches (very short now), we are in need of assistance. We need several Products/applications using Zope, Python, MySQL, Apache, Debian box. All of these products are needed ASAP. We are willing to discuss open-sourcing all products. If anyone out there has some extra time during the next 2-4 weeks and would be interested in earning some extra $$, please contact me via private e-mail at liz(a)virtualplancenter.com. Perhaps someone is already working on an open-source product, but a few $$ would help push it along?? Our site will include many features/requirements, a few are listed: free, public email wizards; free, public web hosting wizards; interactive discussions; database querying/updating/inserting; virtual hosting; admin interfaces; various security levels; e-commerce; database results e-mailed daily; and much more. Some of the products already exist on the zope.org site, but need some tweaking/installation into our server. Any replies are greatly appreciated. Liz Pelletier Notice also posted to zope(a)zope.org

Have a look at http://my.userland.com/choose Not all of these are RSS 0.91, some are old-style My Netscape type channels and some are scriptingNews 2b1 format. If you click on the channel name (say, like, 'The Motley Fool') you get the current rendering. And at the bottom there's the URL for the RSS file. The difficulty here is a lot of the channels are the old style sort (you can tell these because they start rdf:RDF -- I don't support these yet in SiteSummary. Perhaps the best thing to do there is email their webmaster and get them to support the newer My Netscape RSS format. -- Edd
