It looks like someone changed the page type to transclude, which causes the above. That's good to know. :) I changed it back.

Re: [Zope] Help with Edit This Page code?
by Simon Michael 12 Oct '99

12 Oct '99

Does this help at all: I have an app where every page has various edit links like <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role(['Manager'])"> <a href="manage_main">edit</a> </dtml-if> and, in the page footer I have <dtml-if expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.name == 'Anonymous User'"> <a href="login">login/edit..</a> <dtml-else> Logged in as: </dtml-if> Ie if they are anonymous, they see a login link; once logged in they see edit links. Or, just make the edit link always visible and it will force a login if it needs to.

Zope + Web Folder
by Oscar Picasso 12 Oct '99

12 Oct '99

Hi, I have Zope installed on Win98 and tried to access different object from a Web Folder. I have no problem to log in. I also can see the different folders and documents. But there is no way to copy any document from/to my Zope site to/from my local machine. I have a message like "Error while trying to copy one or some of the selected files" (the actual message is in French). However, I'm able to delete the files on Zope site using the same Web Folder. I tried to do the same with another site not powered by Zope and it works perfectly fine. Any idea, pointers? Thanks. ****************************************************** Oscar Picasso picasso(a)videotron.ca ******************************************************

RE: [Zope] ZMySQLDA error

I run linux systems, Sparc Solaris and FreeBSD, my primary Zope installation is on Sun (sun.med.ru/Zope), so I think I can help. :) Yes, Solaris does not have /etc/ld.so.conf, it requires different approach. I did with Postgres (I am using Postgres on Sun and PyGres and ZPygres DA). When I compiled PyGreSQL I add -R linker switch - this is the path where to find .so library. It is not recommended by some people, but I think it is better than setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment. So you have two approaches to choose from. You may set LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment for Zope (do it in start script) and restart Zope. Or you may recompiile ZMySQL DA and use -R option. -R path must point to a directory where you have installed MySQL libraries: -R /usr/local/lib And again, restart Zope after compilation. Re: [Zope] Can't add "date" property to new ZClass

The date field looks like this: <input type=text >name="pub_date:date"> (You'd think ZClass could automatically put the >properties on the _addForm, too.) When you add a ZClass, Zope creates your ZClass_add and ZClass_addForm from simple templates. After they have been created, you're on your own. >Now it's time to try to create a test instance of the class. I get the >_addForm, fill in all the fields and submit. Success! ...well, almost. >There's a date in the new instance, but it's the dummy date I put in the >class, not the date I specified for the instance. > >So I tried changing the form field to: <input type=text name="pub_date"> (no >type override) ...same result. > >What's even weirder is that the method that displays objects with the "PDF >File" meta-type created by this class doesn't seem to get any date at all >from the object -- it shows up as empty -- neither the dummy class date nor >the instance date I put in. Basically, the ZClass_add method that is created automatically is just enough to create a ZClass instance. It is not enough to actually populate the ZClass. Why? Because at the time the ZClass is created, it doesn't have any propertysheets to populate. Having the ZClass_add automatically change when a propertysheet is added is not necessarily desirable... Once you've created a propertysheet, and possibly updated the ZClass_addForm method to include additional fields, you should go into the constructor (ZClass_add). In there, there is a commented section that you should uncomment that includes the line; <dtml-call "propertysheets.Basic.manage_changeProperties(REQUEST)"> Change this line from Basic to whatever the name of your propertysheet is. If your ZClass is CatalogAware, you will want to add <dtml-call reindex_object> immediately after the manage_changeProperties line. Kevin

I haven't need multiple propertysheets myself, but security definitely seems like one possible application. Let's say you have an object that has a "public" part and a "private" part. You could use a different permission for the "private" part so that only certain people could manipulate those properties. >2. When instantiating a ZClass, the Factory errors if the properties are not >defined. Should it do that? Shouldn't it handle undefined properties? (Is >that what Michel meant when he wrote "In fact, [Zope] should be smarter for >instances also and just assume a sane value (like calling DateTime() with no >arguments, which returns 'now')." Yes, I think that was what Michel was saying could be handled a little smarter. Basically, your ZClass_add method needs to ensure that dates, floats and ints all have legal values. (There might be other data types that require a legal value, but those are the three I know off hand). Kevin

Thanks, Amos, just what I asked for. But not (drats!) what I was really looking for. My users, who can edit pages in a specific folder only, will typically approach their pages as Anonymous users. Seem to me a passive test for AUTHENTICATED_USER will fail. Should there be a separate Log-in page before they approach their folder? Or perhaps a link visible to everyone that says something like Page owner click <a href="force_login">here</a> to edit. and then run your code?? (Does force_login exist?)
