Heres my idea for this. Have a seperate ftp server running that uses different GET and PUT methods. These methods will work differently from just presenting the straight DTML. The GET method will do something like a rendering with the DTML encoded into comment tags. So <dtml-var standard_html_header> <ul> <dtml-in aList> <li><dtml-var sequence-item></li> </dtml-in> </ul> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Would be rendered like <html> <title>A big Title</title> <body> <ul> <li>Item1</li> <li>Item2</li> </body> </html> Not exactly clean but it would mean a WYSIWYG editor could edit the whole page and as long as the comments were preserved then the everything would be fine. The PUT method would decode the above and turn it back into the orginal DTML. Changes inside iterations might have to be merged somewhat. Changes to server side includes could be propergated back to the included object as long as the user has permission to change it. Changes to variables like sequence-item can just be ignored. Changes to objects with which the user has no permission can similarly be ignored. Why go to all this trouble? a) It lets wysiwyg people make changes to DTML code hopefully without destroying it. b) It lets DTML people do a bit a visual design once in awhile. c) It lets beginers write content for a site that needs to have the standard footer and header on each page and still see what it looks like. d) It will allow Zope to do something no other server side scripting can do, successfully combine scripting and wysiwyg editing. e) It allows the use existing editors such as Homesite rather trying again with javascript or java or whatever. How can this be implemented? Having a quick look round the code, not easily. I think the recursive way DTML is parsed and rendered makes it hard to put extra steps between recursions. Does everyone think this a) Won't work very well b) Isn't worth it c) great idea but impossible to impliment. d) fantastic idea, I'll have it done tonight ....?

Evaluating DTML Tags in a string ?
by Sascha Matzke 11 Oct '99

Hello, here is another of my "think around too many corners" questions... I've got a zclass which has a string property called text. This string may include a <dtml-var> tag, which doesn't gets evaluated when called with <dtml-var text>. Any hints ?? I already thought about using HTMLFile and StringIO in a python base class. Re: [Zope] Can't add "date" property to new ZClass
by Dr. Ross Lazarus 11 Oct '99

It's a mildly annoying "feature" - you need to put a default date - 2000/01/01 will work fine. Instances must be created with a date in that field. Sometimes I think it's easier to leave them as strings....same goes for int fields - must have a default.,"loren stafford" <lstaffor-(a)icompression.com> wrote: ,original article:http://www.egroups.com/group/zope/?start=14438,> I'm creating a brand new ZClass (called "PDFClass"). Accessing forms through dtml
by DYLANSNOW＠aol.com 11 Oct '99

11 Oct '99

Heres what I am trying to do... I have a form with a large number of input fields on a dtml document which passes control to a dtml method to send mail to the user informing them of their request. I don't want to have to access every form by it's name to get the data. If I could make a general method to get the data from the form and put it into an array it would be great. Is there a form object accessible by Zope? Any input you have would be great. Thanks, Dylan

So, what you need is something like: <form action=deleteMe method=post> <input type=submit value="Delete Me"> </form> deleteMe: <dtml-call "PARENTS[1].manage_delObjects([id])"> Kevin

Delete from edit form
by Joshua Brauer 11 Oct '99

I'm looking for a way to have a form that allows editing of the properties of an item (ala KM's Net News etc.), but I also want to be able to delete the item from the edit form.... SO I tried this code: <FORM action=manage_delObjects method=post> <INPUT TYPE=hidden name="ids:list" value="<dtml-var id>"> <input type=submit value="Delete Item"> </FORM> which doesn't work because the item is not found.... understandable as we're at item/edit in the case of this form, so I changed it to: <FORM action=manage_delObjects method=post> <INPUT TYPE=hidden name="ids:list" value="../<dtml-var id>"> <input type=submit value="Delete Item"> </FORM> no go here either... My Qeustion is: Is it possible to have a form (in a Zclass instance) that deletes the instance of the Zclass and if so, how! Oleg Broytmann has just coded this for an intelligent upload of static pages. This should preseve also the meta tags... HTH __Janko Here the text of his last mail and the hole thing in the attachment. I've debugged my patch to load_site.py and now I am publishing it here. Full load_site.py.gz attached. My patch adds html parsing - load_site.py, while traversing files and directories, parse HTML files before uploading. <HEAD></HEAD> completely removed, <BODY> replaced with , </BODY></HTML> - with . <TITLE></TITLE> if present parsed and title beacomes Document's title. Can someone please point me to code that will <> display an Edit this page link on pages for which the viewer has edit permission <> redirect user to an edit & save window <> hide the link from other users (I think there was a similar Q on the list some weeks ago but I cant locate it now.)
