How to control user access ??
by Joshi, Sunit 06 Oct '99

06 Oct '99

Hello All Thanks to everyone for replying to my earlier ZSQL method question. After n number of tries, I switched to using a ZSearch Interface as suggested by Patrick Theodore (thanks for that) and that worked fine. My next question is, how do I control security as far as people pointing their browsers to the site. Do I have to create each user in the acl_users group and specify their name/domain...??. And also I would like to display the records with a href to an edit/no edit link depending on who comes in. for e.g.: the records should be displayed like(the site is http://localhost:8080/MyAccessFolder) Name Title Dept Rating Change Sunit SP PROD 4 Edit Derek PC SHIP 3 NoEdit So if I point to the above site and chose the option to display the above records I want to be able to click on the Edit (href link) and then be able to change my entries and update the record, since I would have the permissions. Similarly if Derek comes in he will be able to click on NoEdit but it will just tell him he doesn't have rights to do it. We are all in, let's say PDS domain, i.e.. that's what we login as when we power up our PCs. thanks again Sunit regards Sunit INTERGRAPH SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS Sunit Joshi Support Engineer Process and Building Solutions ____________________________________ ___ Huntsville, Alabama 35894-0001 Tel: (256)730-3059 Fax: (256)730-3028 mailto:sjoshi@ingr.com

NS-CGI Auth Patch Problem
by Duncan Booth 06 Oct '99

06 Oct '99

I downloaded the Netscape CGI Auth patch, but the tar file distributed doesn't contain binaries (for either Win32 or Unix) and although it contains a source file, it references headers which are missing. I cannot find the files in the CVS archive either, although I could easily be looking in the wrong place. Where can I get a working version of this patch? -- Duncan Booth duncan(a)dales.rmplc.co.uk int month(char *p){return(124864/((p[0]+p[1]-p[2]&0x1f)+1)%12)["\5\x8\3" "\6\7\xb\1\x9\xa\2\0\4"];} // Who said my code was obscure? http://dales.rmplc.co.uk/Duncan

Using Dreamweaver with zope..
by Tony McDonald 06 Oct '99

Anyone got this working? Dreamweaver keeps telling me it can't open files that don't have an extension, so all my DTML methods/docs aren't editable using DreamWeaver... cheers tone. ------ Dr Tony McDonald, FMCC, Networked Learning Environments Project http://nle.ncl.ac.uk/ The Medical School, Newcastle University Tel: +44 191 222 5888 Fingerprint: 3450 876D FA41 B926 D3DD F8C3 F2D0 C3B9 8B38 18A2

RE: [Zope] Using Dreamweaver with zope..

Not at all, I love it ;-) > At the UCON conference it was released that Dreamweaver is built on a > version of ECMASCRIPT(Javascript) and .XML, The entire app(minus some core > code) is all javascript and is easily manipulated. The kit you found is a > tool for building functionality into Dreamweaver. It is really powerful. > > As Dreamweaver has FTP access there is no reason that Dreamweaver > cannot be a full blown IDE for Zope. There are 3 things that would need to happen: I was hoping for the dreamweaver.openDocument() method for interacting with Zope. In that way you could get more control by using the manage_-methods and do more intelligent things than just updating files. I am unsure what this does? I have not confirmed if the dreamweaver.openDocument() just takes (file:) URLs or if it takes (http:) URLs as well? In that case it would be worth considering building a C-library handling HTTP communication inside DW. (If its not already done?) I know that the FTP protocol works well. I see what you all are talking about! The FTP support only lets you open files when they have an extension. Although if you include a .htm on them in ZOPE they open just fine. They also save back into ZOPE fine with the extensions. > 1. DTML Tags would have to be added to ZOPE under a ZOPE MENU > 2. Modify the MIME SETTINGS so Dreamweaver could recognize ZOPE Docs (or rename them in ZOPE) Have you found were to do this? NO, Only that if you have an extension in the file name in ZOPE, they open just fine. I was wondering if you could have a feature that ties the two together so that ZOPE(FTP) would automatically do it for unnamed files and then take the extension off.(It is an OPEN SOURCE PRODUCT!) This would be a modification to ZSERVER(FTP). Maybe if ZOPE managed the EXTENSIONS based on MIME, That would do it! > 3. Add ZOPE Logic to the menus. (IF, WHILE, IN) I don't quite follow? Could you explain it for me? You can add menus and items into DREAMWEAVER. Lets have a ZOPE MENU with ZOPE items. (CUT, PASTE & MANAGE DTML SYNTAX via DREAMWEAVER(all they are is XML/HTML tags). We would just add reference DTML tags so that you could cut and paste DTML. The Logic is there so that you can insert an IF STATEMENT of a WHILE LOOP....similar to inserting an image and editing the parameters. Actually I was trying to understand the change to <dtml-var> based tags and it happens to make the tags work 200% better in DREAMWEAVER. It now doesn't cut off the <--#'s. So that editing forms is easier. If you look in the Dreamweaver Folder there are sets of components .js and .xml files all of them make up the interface to Dreamweaver. So you can edit them and add ZOPE functionality. Although I RECOMMEND CREATING A BACK-UP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!!! I have already had to re-install it because of some editing. It really would not be too much effort to bridge the gap in the two products. Dreamweaver was designed to change so that their life-cycle would be extended and the software could adapt over time. I will look into the OPENDOC() function and see what I can find. I know someone at Macromedia I can email. He will point me in the right direction. > Oracle built a dreamweaver extension to view and edit parameters in an > oracle database. With the Dreamweaver SDK there really isn't anything you > can't do. Almost ;-) AS WITH ALL THINGS, IN THEORY! ;)TED /Johan
