How to control user access ??

Hello All Thanks to everyone for replying to my earlier ZSQL method question. After n number of tries, I switched to using a ZSearch Interface as suggested by Patrick Theodore (thanks for that) and that worked fine. My next question is, how do I control security as far as people pointing their browsers to the site. Do I have to create each user in the acl_users group and specify their name/domain...??. And also I would like to display the records with a href to an edit/no edit link depending on who comes in. for e.g.: the records should be displayed like(the site is http://localhost:8080/MyAccessFolder) Name Title Dept Rating Change Sunit SP PROD 4 Edit Derek PC SHIP 3 NoEdit So if I point to the above site and chose the option to display the above records I want to be able to click on the Edit (href link) and then be able to change my entries and update the record, since I would have the permissions. Similarly if Derek comes in he will be able to click on NoEdit but it will just tell him he doesn't have rights to do it. I had the same error, but I could fix it: 1. open the file Zope\lib\python\Products\PSQLInput\Wizard.py 2. goto line 357, containing the following: self.aq_parent.manage_addZSQLMethod(sqlId, sqlTitle, self.connection_id, args, command) 3. replace the previous statement by the following: self.aq_parent._setObject(sqlId, Products.ZSQLMethods.SQL.SQL(sqlId, sqlTitle, self.connection_id, args, command)) 4. restart Zope I attached the complete Wizard.py hope it helped phil ----- Original Message ----- From: Ping Lau To: zope(a)zope.org Sent: Sunday, October 03, 1999 8:40 AM Subject: [Zope] PSQLINPUT Wizard Error Has anyone successfully used PSQLInput Product? NS-CGI Auth Patch Problem

I downloaded the Netscape CGI Auth patch, but the tar file distributed doesn't contain binaries (for either Win32 or Unix) and although it contains a source file, it references headers which are missing. I cannot find the files in the CVS archive either, although I could easily be looking in the wrong place. img in a tree?

I've got to make this work to use tree for my navigation... Using Dreamweaver with zope..

Anyone got this working? NO, Only that if you have an extension in the file name in ZOPE, they open just fine. I was wondering if you could have a feature that ties the two together so that ZOPE(FTP) would automatically do it for unnamed files and then take the extension off.(It is an OPEN SOURCE PRODUCT!) This would be a modification to ZSERVER(FTP). Maybe if ZOPE managed the EXTENSIONS based on MIME, That would do it! > 3. Add ZOPE Logic to the menus. (IF, WHILE, IN) I don't quite follow? Could you explain it for me? You can add menus and items into DREAMWEAVER. Lets have a ZOPE MENU with ZOPE items. (CUT, PASTE & MANAGE DTML SYNTAX via DREAMWEAVER(all they are is XML/HTML tags). We would just add reference DTML tags so that you could cut and paste DTML. The Logic is there so that you can insert an IF STATEMENT of a WHILE LOOP....similar to inserting an image and editing the parameters. Actually I was trying to understand the change to <dtml-var> based tags and it happens to make the tags work 200% better in DREAMWEAVER. It now doesn't cut off the <--#'s. So that editing forms is easier. If you look in the Dreamweaver Folder there are sets of components .js and .xml files all of them make up the interface to Dreamweaver. So you can edit them and add ZOPE functionality. Although I RECOMMEND CREATING A BACK-UP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!!! I have already had to re-install it because of some editing. It really would not be too much effort to bridge the gap in the two products. Dreamweaver was designed to change so that their life-cycle would be extended and the software could adapt over time. I will look into the OPENDOC() function and see what I can find. I know someone at Macromedia I can email. importance/uses of rdf/rss ?

One of the surprising things when I asked for feature requests for notmail (or basically webmail) was that almost everyone mentioned rdf and rss (usually giving mynetscape as an example). I hadn't realised it was used so widespread and wondered what I was missing - so, I went to refresh my understanding of RDF : http://www.cs.ukc.ac.uk/people/staff/djb1/research/metadata/rdf.shtml (warning - folloing the links on this site will give you a nosebleed from information overload.. it's a monster.) which was all well and good. But how does this apply to the way that us (zopesters) can use it ? For something like Km|News, I can see that we might use content from other sites (such as PalmPower - this is a good example : http://www.palmpower.com/issues/issue199907/ppeditorial0799001.html ) or in turn we might want people to syndicate our own content. And applying this to the webmail, I guess we could have custom news delivered to our inbox using an rdf-based news channel. Right ? But some of the discussions on this list have hinted at RDF being much more deeply intertwined with Zope and ZODB. How else might you use RDF and are people using just straight XML tools ?
