I've just been playing with w3m[1] and I can say it's pretty damn nice for working with Zope. It's a text-based browser, like Lynx, with the following features: _very_ nice mouse support handles frames and tables for editing textareas, it spawns an external editor (yes! no more editing in crappy textareas for me....) It works really very nicely when pointed at the /manage_main area of your Zope site. Have you managed to use it with a port number in the url? It forgets about the port number for relative links. Authorization failure

Hi! I'm stuck with a problem here and hope someone can help me out ... I try to make a folder & file tree view using the code: DTML-method - show_tree <dtml-tree branches_expr="objectValues(['Folder, 'File'])" sort=meta_type> <dtml-var title_or_id> </dtml-tree> Accessing the show_tree method as manager displays all correctly, but when I try to access the method as another user I get 'authorization failed'. I find this strange since the user has aquired the permissions : 'access contents information' and 'view' to the methods parent folder, the same permission setting is set for the folders and files therein. I can trick it so that the user is proxyed as manager on the method, but thats not what I want - I will block access to all but the authenticated users private files and folders in the future. Please tell me whats I do wrong and how I can fix this. Thanks in advance Sture Lygren

DTML equiv of eval (again).

Just when I thought I understood how to use _['var' + x] as an equivalent of eval() within DTML, this one trips me up : /index_html /Images /imgDogs /imgCats why does this work : <dtml-with Images> <dtml-var "_['img' + x]"> </dtml-with> where x = 'Dogs' But this does not : <dtml-var "_['Images.img' + x]"> I've checked and this certainly would have worked : <dtml-var "Images.imgDog"> Thanks, chas

malformed <base> tag

Hello, I've tried this with w3m and Emacs w3-mode... When I access my local zope server at 192.168.1.2:9090 with them I get an malformed <base> tag returned from zope (<base href="http://192.168.1.2/">) which should be something like (<base href="http://192.168.1.2:9090/">)... I'm running the zope cvs-version (last checked yesterday)... I can't make Doc1 a method because Doc1 needs a few properties to support rendering its content. What I am trying to do is putting the common properties & methods in Doc1. Then call Doc1 from any DTML Document from any sub folders of FolderA. Doc1 will use its own properties to render common results & use caller's properties to render unique results. version export

I was enthused with the idea of versions, because I have a remote and local copy of the same site. So I made some changes, and exported the 'version' file. It was 200 bytes. Is there any way to export a 'version'- IE, all the objects that have been modified by a version, and the version- and then import and commit it into another Zope? Thanks, -- ~mindlace

Investigations into UserDB

Morning Everyone... I have a copy of UserDB working off a Gadfly database and, in the course of some investigations today, have discovered a few things about it. First off someone in the past commented that he couldn't get cookie based authentication to work and so had hacked the UserDb file to comment out the first two lines in validate. def validate(self,request,auth='',roles=None): if self.cookie_mode: return self.cookie_validate(request, auth, roles) return self.std_validate(request, auth, roles) When first installed UserDB I had a similar problem (It ALWAYS asking me to validate, and not accepting _any_ username or password I type in.) I actually looked myself out of my site for a while. So I used his "fix" and my problems went away... Other people said they didn't have this problem. Guess what? The default cookie authentication works under Netscape but NOT under the latest version of IE on my computer at home. (Well, actually, what really happens is that anytime the popup password window is triggered it will fail _anything_ you type in if you have cookie based auth on, but that window pops up without any prompting on IE.) Next. Another guy wrote that: ---- If you change line 469 of lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py from md.validate=self.validate to md.validate=None Then UserDb authentication will take place instead of the bogus standard type which doesn't exist. ----- And this fixes the problem that turns up under IE, it'll actually let me view my front page now. But now I HAVE to go to my front page and login, I can't go straight to the manage page at all, even the superuser password doesn't work. Also the manage page behaves _very_ strangely under this arrangement. Sometimes (non-repeatable, I hate that) I click on a folder in the left column and it _automatically_ views the index_html for that folder and I can't get to the real manage thing without logging in again. I would suspect I'd been logged out (cookie timeout) but why would it view the page instead of asking me for auth (which would fail anyway)? Is there any way to make authorisation failures redirect to the userDB docLogin page instead of bringing up the password window? Anyway... Enough about UserDB for now. My other question has to do with proxy roles... I was trying to set up a counter, and the suggestion of: <dtml-call "manage_changeProperties({'counter': counter + 1})"> works perfectly, but only if I set the proxy role of manager for my INDEX_HTML page that includes the counter through: <dtml-var add_counter> setting the proxy role on the add_counter method does NOTHING it still wants authorisation. (Index html is a method as well) And I was wondering if this was part of the security layout and was the way it was meant to work this way or not. It seems kinda bad having to give my main page management privs. Thanks everyone for your help... Aaaaaah, just took a shower and everything suddenly went 'click'. _[] contains the objects so that's why _['x.y'] refers to a single object This makes sense. Then <dtml-var expr="expression"> or <dtml-var "expression"> really DOES do just an eval, and so it can work out that <dtml-var "x.y"> is the folder and then the object/method (although I think this is still a bit screwy) I was reading Evan's post but just not really understanding the significance. Chas, Thanks. It works. Now I want to generalize it. I will create more folders inside FolderA and FolderB. Each newly created folder will contain at least one DTML Document that calls Doc1. Thus Doc1 has to determine which Doc from which folder dynamically. The goal is to use make Doc1 uses its own properties to render common results & uses caller's properties to render specific results. Any idea how to do that? Thanks.
