Two Zope/Apache questions. 1) I asked a while ago about 2.0b1 and apache which no longer works for me. (1.x still works but not 2.x) 2) Does ZServer do multihoming? I'd be happy to drop apache if I could get multiple sites to run from a single port on a single box. Product installation problem

Hi, I have just installed Zope with pcgi to Apache. Everything seems to work fine except when I un-tared example products into lib/python/products and restarted Zope, they are not loaded at all. Alternatively, when I put the new Products into /usr/lib/python1.5/site-packages/Zope/Products, I can see the new Products loaded into the control panel/product management screen but I cannot get the newly installed products to work. They appear on the control panel/product management but nothing is added to the pull-down "add" menu. Anyone know what I may be doing wrong? thanks in advance, Andrew Ho

"virtual" subobjects

I'm grappling with the idea of having "virtual folders" (for want of a better term) existing under a Zope folder and am not sure how to implement it. The user will basically be navigating through subobjects whose identity will be stored in a database: http://somehost/notes/a/b/c where a, b, c correspond to some structure in the database. My question is it possible for the object at http://somehost/notes to handle all requests to subobjects under it without creating them by hand in Zope? I suspect some Python programming would be involved but I'm not sure what. Acqusition and External Methods...

It lets me read DTML/HTML source and pick out what's DTML and what isn't. The syntax has in no way bothered my brain, my fingers, or my reasoning in the slightest, and more of my editors are now tought to understand it. I see no reason to introduce yet another syntax so we can learn new works like "dtin" (is the dt silent?). And if you think it's too long, wait until XML floods everywhere. XML hates shortcuts. Just think, no more confusion over the difference between <dtml-in "gamma"> VS <dtml-in gamma> when the whole world is in <dtml:in expr="gamma"><dtml:var name="sequence-item"/></dtml:in>. How many questions do we see on the list when someone quoted something (using the "expr" shortcut) that they intended to not quote (using the "name" shortcut), and got an error when python tried to subtract item from sequence? :)

There are some basic methods defined on the BasicUser object (from which most AUTH_USER's are derived) for getting the user name, roles, roles in context, etc.

This syntax was labeled "experimental". Since it survived and is now part of Zope, it's experimental status has been dropped. permission & New syntax

I use the alias ZifNab.... And lot of people call me zif.... So, people perhaps are going to think that my ego is growing and that I write web-applications with zif-syntax.... :-)))) But offcourse, by all means if you find it better, go for it!
