Afaik, Zope does not have any built-in document grabbing routines, but it's real easy to do with httplib in an External Method. Something like: import httplib def GetLinuxToday(): http = httplib.HTTP('linuxtoday.com') http.putrequest('GET', '/backend/lthead.inc') http.putheader('Accept', 'text/html') # we can handle text/html http.putheader('Accept', 'text/plain') # we can handle text/plain http.endheaders() httpcode, httpmsg, headers = http.getreply() # get response headers if httpcode != 200: raise "Could not get document" # HTTP error doc = http.getfile() data = doc.read() # read file doc.close() return data Didn't test this inside Zope, but it works standalone. squishdot syntax

hi folks, i've been reading with, um, delight, yeah, the ongoing discussion about DTML syntax. this brings up another thorny issue: squishdot syntax. as readers of that webpage know, the abbreviation of slashdot is /. i tried to come up with a similar abbreviation for squishdot, but got stumped from start: where is the squish key? i started to just use ~. no, how about *.? #.? well, that's the beauty of open source... i can call on the extensive expertise of other people. oh, BTW butch and others, thanks for the great squishdot product. i'll be using it very soon in a project. obviously bored, scott

Maybe I'll get hooked and just *have* to add an NFS server option to ZServer... :) Actually the idea to NFS mount an object database wasn't mine. I'll probably start by porting a web-based presentation program I originally wrote in PHP to Zope. That should be an interesting comparison of the two systems' features. Best Regards, Dave

Cool but...

Okay, Zope looks *really*, *really* cool. The one thing I *really* wish I could do is to NFS mount or SMB mount the object database onto my file system. Then I wouldn't have to go through the nonsense of uploading graphic files and Zope would automatically interoperate with all of my HTML editing tools. Even so, I think I'm going to give Zope a whirl on a small project and see what happens. I like PHP but wish it had exceptions to help create more robust code. I think that Python is a better programming language, and the way Zope integrates it into the web environment is very intriguing. Regards, Dave Orme
