I do this in two toy products, BlogFace and BlogTopic. http://zope.org/Members/karl/index_html/BlogFace/BlogFace http://zope.org/Members/karl/index_html/BlogTopic/BlogTopic BlogFace uses __bobo_traverse__. If name actually exists, return it for publishing. If name is an int, add something to the REQUEST and return self. If name is in a parameter dict, add something to REQUEST and return self. If no actual subobjects get in the way, we end up at self's index_html, which does something with these stored agruments. def __bobo_traverse__(self, REQUEST, name): """ Consume trailing URL path and turn into arguments so long as they are convertable to ints. Otherwise, traverse normally with collected arguments. Note that this shadows subobjects with IDs that are convertable to ints. """ if re.match('^[0-9]+$', name): if not REQUEST.has_key('traverse_date'): REQUEST['traverse_date'] = [] (REQUEST['traverse_date']).append(name) elif name in self.traverseParamOpts.keys(): if not REQUEST.has_key('traverse_params'): REQUEST['traverse_params'] = [] (REQUEST['traverse_params']).append(name) else: # normal traverse. This can raise an AttributeError. What can # we raise to get the publisher to do what it does in other # cases, besides making and raising a notFoundError ourselves? return getattr(self, name) return self BlogTopic does this more efficiently by munging the traversal stack in __before_publishing_traverse__, so that all of those traversal calls are short-circuited. # should be using the tools in BeforeTraverse.py? def __before_publishing_traverse__(self, obj, req): """ If the traversal stack is all intable strings that don't lead to attrs or items, put the date represented in the request and lop the stack, causing the publisher to call us for the next publishing step. """ stack = req['TraversalRequestNameStack'] # do nothing unless we have only intable strs to traverse overall # XXX use something faster than re.match(str)? if stack and (len(filter(lambda x: re.match('^[0-9]+$', x), stack)) != len(stack)): return # Do nothing if there's an attr or item to publish, allows # things like custom views for dates. # This isn't rigorous, there could still be something to publish, # but there isn't a mechanism to find any name that # BaseRequest.traverse would publish, other than copying the code. stack.reverse() if stack: self_base = aq_base(self) if hasattr(self_base, stack[0]): return try: dummy = self_base[stack[0]] return except: pass # stop looking for next obj to publish by emptying stack req['TraversalRequestNameStack'] = [] try: req['BlogTopicDate'] = seqToDate(stack) except: req['TraversalRequestNameStack'] = [self.dateErrorSkin] Munging the traversal stack can have weird consequences for things like breadcrumbs. -- Karl Anderson kra(a)monkey.org http://monkey.org/~kra/

RE: [Zope] Help! Serious performance problem! (PTS? Zeo? SMP?)

Duh, well yes that's a start ... But how would I make sure I do this for all threads? Running this once would load/cache the objects only in the thread in ran in. That's the hard part I think :) J.F. -----Original Message----- From: Jean Jordaan [mailto:jean@upfrontsystems.co.za] Sent: May 28, 2004 8:18 AM To: Jean-Francois.Doyon(a)CCRS.NRCan.gc.ca Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Help! So that instead of loading > objects on demand, I could force the loading at start-up? Iterate over them. Eg. for p in context.Catalog(meta_type="whatever"): p.getObject() They should now all be in memory. int's as keys for dictionaries
by Bryce Harrington 31 May '04

31 May '04

I'm running into an issue I don't understand when using ints as keys in hashes. <dtml-let d_test_parameter="{'1':'a', '2':'b'}"> We set id="1" <dtml-let id="1"> This works: <dtml-var "d_test_parameter.get('1')"> But this doesn't: <dtml-var "d_test_parameter.get(id)"> Nor does this: <dtml-var "d_test_parameter.get('id')"> </dtml-let> Now set id="'1'" <dtml-let id="'1'"> This works: <dtml-var "d_test_parameter.get('1')"> Now this works: <dtml-var "d_test_parameter.get(id)"> This still doesn't: <dtml-var "d_test_parameter.get('id')"> </dtml-let> </dtml-let> How can we force id to be interpreted as a string for the dictionary key in the first case? Python script to modify the permision on photos
by kbond 31 May '04

31 May '04

Hello, I have a very basic script to write and I facing the some difficulties to understand the Zope Api. My problem is the following : I have tones of photo in several PhotoAlbums that do not have the correct permision. I want to allow only a specific role to view those photos. I found out how to do it in interactive mode, using (instance:8080/manage), but with this method is way too long so I have decided to write a script that will recursively change the permision on all the photo in a branch of my web site tree. So far I already play around in "spe" and get the following: ++++++++++++++++++++++module++++++++++++++++++++++++++ #! /usr/bin/env python import os, sys sys.path.append("/usr/lib/zope/lib/python") import Zope Zope.configure("/home/yml/myZopeInstances/sitePerso/etc/zope.conf") app = Zope.app() #app.sitePerso.Albums.Photo_Album_la.get("Photo_Album.Apt") ------------------In Shell------------------------------------------------------------- appart = app.sitePerso.Albums.Photo_Album_la.get("Photo_Album.Apt") albumsChantier = appart.get("Photo_Album.chantier") chant3 = albumsChantier.get("Photo_Album.chan3") >>>chant3.objectItems() > [('Chantier 052.jpg', <Photo at > /sitePerso/Albums/Photo_Album_la/Photo_Album.Apt/Photo_Album.chantier/Photo_Album.chan3/Chantier > 052.jpg>), ('Chantier 053.jpg', <Photo at > /sitePerso/Albums/Photo_Album_la/Photo_Album.Apt/Photo_Album.chantier/Photo_Album.chan3/Chantier > 053.jpg>), ... cut.... ] photo = chant3.get('Chantier 053.jpg') photo.manage_permission("View", "MyRole",1) I have several questions concerning this code: How can I check, by script, that I have done a modification on the permission? Please I am stuck And I do not know where to search I have googled the whole evening without any success. Thank you for your help.

ExternalEditor problem
by Des Dougan 31 May '04

31 May '04

I'm setting up Plone 2, and have been trying to configure the ExternalEditor helper application on my SuSE 9 desktop. When I click on an edit link, a temporary file is created on the PC, but the helper app does not open the editor. However, when I run zopeedit.py on the command line, I get a "FATAL ERROR: 'url'" message, and the file I entered as the parameter is deleted. I've tried with several different file types, and with my own ID and the root user, and see the same result each time. The traceback file created has the word "None" in it - nothing else. Can anyone shed any light on why this is failing? [Ann] AdvancedQuery 0.3
by Dieter Maurer 30 May '04

30 May '04

AdvancedQuery is a Zope product for flexible queries against "ZCatalog" or "CatalogTool". Queries can be arbitrarily combined with "and", "or" and "not". All index types are almost fully supported (exception: relevance sorting of TextIndexes). AdvancedQuery supports efficient incremental (lazy) multi-level sorting via FieldIndexes. This means, you can sort via e.g. "sort_on=(('Date','desc'), 'portal_type', 'id')". For large result sets, sorting is performed incrementally, only as far as you access the result. This can drastically speed up sorting time. AdvancedQuery is especially efficient for "ManagableIndex"es (see: <http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope#ManagableIndex>). New in version 0.3: * uses for CMF's "CatalogTool" an index ValidityRange (assumed to be a Managable RangeIndex) in preference of CMF's effective and expires indexes which can significantly improve query speed More information and download: <http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope#AdvancedQuery> Note: This may be the last version with its current open source unrestricted use license. I consider whether I will expressly forbid the use of my software by institutions of the European Union (Councel of Ministers, Commission, Parliament, ...). This is in protest against a recent decision of the Councel to make software patentable. This decision ignores a Parliament vote that pleaded to keep logic (algorithms, business rules) un-patentable. -- Dieter

[Ann] ManagableIndex 0.5
by Dieter Maurer 30 May '04

30 May '04

ManagableIndex is a flexible indexing framework. It comes with managable field, keyword and efficient range indexes. Via the management interface, you can for example configure * how to combine values to be indexed from various attributes * how to normalize terms, e.g. for case insensitive searches * to ignore stop terms to keep your indexes small * to convert terms into an efficient form This is how ManagableIndex supports efficient "DateTime" and "DateIndexes" * how to handle acquisition and calling of values New in version 0.5: * "RangeIndex" now efficiently supports improper ranges, i.e. ranges with at least one unrestricted boundary, * a "RangeIndex" can now be used as a (partial) plugin replacement for CMF's "effective" and "expires" indexes. I expect that such a replacement will speed up most CMF searches. More information and download: <http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope#ManagableIndex> Note: This may be the last version with its current open source unrestricted use license. I consider whether I will expressly forbid the use of my software by institutions of the European Union (Councel of Ministers, Commission, Parliament, ...). This is in protest against a recent decision of the Councel to make software patentable.
