TAL and Zope Security
by patrick sullivan 30 May '04

I am having some problems comprehending a security issue with zope and page templates. I have a folder protected by exUserFolder, and that folder contains another folder where my site is sitting. I have a page macro that all other pages use, so i just need to fill in slots of content throughtout the site. i want to make a page available to Anonymous users. But this page template contains calls to z sql methods, the page macro, some images, etc etc etc. I changed my Security permissions on this page tempalte for Anon to view and access object contents but i am still getting the authentication popup. That didn't work. So I gave anonymous everything in the security tab, and still no joy. Do I have to allow for Anon on everything that this template uses to fill its slot? Like every image, every z sql method, the page macros, and everything else? Thanks, Patrick __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! ZPT and standard_error_message
by David Chandek-Stark 30 May '04

30 May '04

I can override standard_error_message with a custom ZPT file; however, I don't seem to have access to the error data. What am I missing? Surely there must be a way to do this. Zope 2.7/linux2 Python 2.3.2 CMF 1.4.4 Thanks, David -- David Chandek-Stark Web Applications Developer Duke University - Perkins Library (919) 660-5859 dc(a)duke.edu

by Aaron 29 May '04

Hi all, I was wondering if there is a lite version of zope or something like it. My idea would be to somehow install it on an ipaq/linux and use it to learn zpt etc. Is such a thing possible? Thanks Aaron

Is Zope a good tool for this application?
by Mark Randall 28 May '04

28 May '04

[I apologize if this is a repost. I tried once and it didn't seem to work] I'm new to the list and hope this is an appropriate place to post a basic question. Our business has a need to prototype a portal application. A friend mentioned that Zope might be worth investigating as a possible platform. I'm hoping that the readers of this list can offer some guidance. OVERVIEW This portal will be a public media sharing site, not too dissimilar from the old MP3.com site (or kind of like the current garageband.com site). Public users need to be able to create an account. Each user with an account will get an automatically created, somewhat customizable 'homepage' within the site. They will be able to self- publish their media, add it to one of the site's directory categories for browsing, and add a searchable description. Each homepage will have a list of that user's media that other users can browse/play, a description of the user, a mini-blog for the user (with comments). Each piece of media will have a way for other users to rate it (the average rating being displayed), report it for abuse, and add a 'review' to it. Reviews will have a "Was this review helpful" option (like Amazon). The main page of the site will have a browsable category directory, search function, as well as an automatically generated "top ten" list, a "most recently added" list, a "higest rated" list, "featured" list etc. Each category will have its own sub-page with the same items on it. This site will start as a low volume prototype (a few hundred users) but we hope it will need to eventually scale to tens of thousands. Your opinions please: - Is Zope a good platform for this type of application? - Are there any sites like this built on Zope? - How far can Zope (and existing Zope addons) get us toward this goal? (halfway? more?) - Are there any Zope addons that we should particularly look at? - Any caveats or concerns we should be aware of? Thanks for any help you can provide. --- Mark

What does that error mean? In my main class I have : main_page=PageTemplateFile('zpt/main_page.zpt',globals()) main_page._owner=None def index_html(self,REQUEST=None): """our main page... Enter here!""" if REQUEST is not None: if REQUEST.has_key('YSURLARGS'): if REQUEST['YSURLARGS'][0] == 'domain': self.domain = self.ddb.getDomain(REQUEST['YSURLARGS'][1]) self.domainTitle=self.domain.getHTMLDomainName() else: pass else: pass else: pass return self.main_page(self,REQUEST) And this results in: Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. RE: [Zope] Override a method of an instance in the ZODB?
by Passin, Tom 28 May '04

> From: zope-bounces(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-bounces@zope.org] On > Behalf Of Alec Mitchell > Which won't acquire anything but the method. The reason I > want to avoid a > subclass or monkey patch is that I want to override what this > method does for > this one instance of an already populated acl_users without > changing it in > any other way. > In Python, you can override a method of an instance just by assigning it to another function, like this - class Test1: def f1(self): return "f1() of Test1" def f1(): return "f1() of instance" T1 = Test1() T1.f1 = f1 Running this within the Python interpreter, try the following - >>> T1.f1() 'f1() of instance' Is this what you had in mind? Cheers, Tom P
