dictionary usage
by Greg Steffensen 25 May '04

I've been trying to roll my own RSS parsing in Zope by using Mark Hammond's feedparser python module. I've been able to get it to install it successfully, and have been able to get Zope to let Scripts (Python) import it natively, by creating a new directory called "Other" in the Products directory, and putting an __init__.py file in it with the following 2 lines: from Products.PythonScripts.Utility import allow_module allow_module('feedparser') Basically, the parser is supposed to return a dictionary containing the rss feed information. If I create and run the following python script: import feedparser uri = 'http://slashdot.org/slashdot.rdf' return feedparser.parse(uri) and click the "test" view in the ZMI, I see a single, REALLY long line of text that is the string representation of the output dictionary (the real output, with live data from slashdot). And this seems to be a real dictionary, not just a string, because len(feedparser.parse(uri)) returns 9. But I can't seem to access any of the dictionary functionality, because when I try to, the ZMI keeps asking me to log in again (even though I'm logged in as the site manager), won't accept any of my login credentials (either site manager or emergency user), and then, when I ultimately click "cancel", tells my I don't have the authorization to access this element in this context. For example, if I create and run the following python script import feedparser data = feedparser.parse('http://slashdot.org/slashdot.rdf') return data['channel'] I receive the error message "You are not authorized to access 'channel' in this context.". What's going on? Placing the feedparser.parse() functionality in an external method doesn't help either, I get the same results (viewing the top dictionary returns shows a string representation of the dictionary, viewing any subelement of the dictionary causes an "Unauthorized error). Feedparser doesn't have any outside dependencies (at least, I certainly didn't install any, and it works perfectly in the python shell). Does Zope restrict the use of dictionaries somehow? Are there some other access granting commands I should put in __init__.py ? I'm using Zope 2.7 with python 2.3 on linux. Any help is greatly appreciated! Greg Steffensen

Re: [Zope] ZOPE Demo?

From: Ehab A. Banjar > In fact I've already installed Zope in my PC. But, how can I see the visitor's > homepage? I mean the homepage of the software? I have no idea what you are talking about. There is no visitors homepage. I think that you don't really want Zope. You want a more finished product, such as CPS or Plone. These are finished content management systems that run on Zope. Both are excellent systems. Download CPS from here: http://www.nuxeo.org/cps CPS requires and installation of Zope already. You can install it in the Zope instance you have. And Plone from here: http://plone.org/downloads/ Plone comes in finished packages for many operating systems.

It looks like it solved my problem. for the benefit of others who run into this problem, i created a directory ZEONATKeepAlive in instance_home/Products and inside there i created a file __init__.py and put the below code into it (Dieter's original unmodified code would have been fine too), and restarted zope. in my event.log i got this 2004-05-24T16:29:26 INFO(0) CustomZODB Keep alive thread started then later 2004-05-24T16:39:26 INFO(0) CustomZODB Sending keep alive message ------ 2004-05-24T16:39:26 INFO(0) CustomZODB Sent keep alive message So I suspect i installed it correctly. for those who might want the script packaged up as a normal zope product, here it is: http://files.zettai.net/ZEONATKeepAlive.tar.gz ##__init__.py ###Hard work done by Dieter Maurer, thanks! __doc__ = 'ZEO Over NAT Keep Alive' __version__ = '0.1' from thread import start_new_thread from time import sleep from zLOG import LOG, INFO, PROBLEM, ERROR from sys import exc_info from os import environ from App.config import getConfiguration KeepPeriod=600 #KeepPeriod= int(environ.get('ZEO_KEEP_ALIVE')) * 60 Storage = getConfiguration().dbtab.getDatabase('/')._storage def keepAlive(): LOG("CustomZODB",INFO,"Keep alive thread started") while 1: sleep(KeepPeriod) if Storage._ready.isSet(): LOG("CustomZODB",INFO,"Sending keep alive message") Storage._lock.acquire() try: try: Storage._server.get_info() LOG("CustomZODB",INFO,"Sent keep alive message") except: LOG("CustomZODB",ERROR,".... failed", error=exc_info()) finally: Storage._lock.release() else: LOG("CustomZODB",PROBLEM,"Connection is down") start_new_thread(keepAlive,()) <--> george donnelly ~ http://www.zettai.net/ ~ "Quality Zope Hosting" Shared and Dedicated Zope Hosting ~ Zope Servers ~ Zope Websites Yahoo, AIM: zettainet ~ ICQ: 51907738 ~ Sales (USA): 1-866-967-3669

audio order
by Aaron 25 May '04

HI all I am trying to mentally figure out how zope can help manage a huge archives of audio files. A database can't hold audio files even as blobs they are to large. What I have seen done with relational databases is to hold the audio files in a directory and scan the file headers as well as the directory contents and keep them in sync with at database. Somehow I got the feeling that with zope I can store the actual audio files (ogg) in the zope database. However I am not sure how this helps me. I have audio files and their metadata as well as parallel music notation files for each recording which I need to keep in sync. I need a frontend to add the audio. This will query the db to see if a recording/notation file already exist and if there is metadata for either the notation or the recording and permit the addition of the metadata from the notation to the recording or visa versa. Now my question is how can I take advantage of existing zope objects/products to manage my audio archives. Thanks Aaron

I have no idea. There's an equivalent one which you'll find very useful too. context.restrictedTraverse('/folder/object') or context.restrictedTraverse('../..foo/object') For the daring product/external method developer there's also self.unrestrictedTraverse() Guess the difference. I already send an HTTP Options request every second to each of the clients but this does not seem to be doing the trick. I found this email that mentions sending a noop across the client - storage connection. http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2002-February/015280.html is this something that has to go across zrpc? thanks for your help :) <--> george donnelly ~ http://www.zettai.net/ ~ "Quality Zope Hosting" Shared and Dedicated Zope Hosting ~ Zope Servers ~ Zope Websites Yahoo, AIM: zettainet ~ ICQ: 51907738 ~ Sales (USA): 1-866-967-3669

problem with upgading from plone 1.0.4 to 2.0
by Lukasz Indyk 24 May '04

24 May '04

hello i use java-script richtext editor with plone 1.0.4. the editor is embedded as a scriplet in a page, and the page with the scriplet uses plone's main template (fill-slot etc). everything works wery well. i want to use the same solution with current plone version (2.0), but there is a problem;( the page containing editor is displayed in browser window, but there is no editor in the table cell that it used to be in. when i put alert() in various points of the javascript code, then alert is displayed, so i guess the javascript is processed. but editor is not displayed. what about the solution? maybe there is well-know javascrip-related error with upgrading plone? regards Lukasz Indyk <dyzma(a)mat.uni.torun.pl>
