We've been using DTML for a few years now, but we have come to a point where we will be re-writing much of our zope content so I thought it would be a good time to look into ZPT. I've been converting a couple of our DTML pages to ZPT as an exercize (or "spike solution") to determine if we should make the switch. Anyway, I've run into a question that I can't seem to find an answer to in the docs. If I have something like this: <dtml-in "stuffAboutPeople()"> <dtml-var lastName> <dtml-var age><br> <dtml-if sequence_last> Number of people: <dtml-var count-lastName><br> Total of ages: <dtml-var total-age><br> Std deviation of ages: <dtml-var standard-deviation-age><br> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> I understand how to get the repeating names and ages using ZPT, but what I can't figure out is how to get the total of the ages and the standard deviation of the ages. I guess the real question is: "How do I provide data that is available via the batch summary features in dtml-in, using ZPT?" Thanks! Steve

avoid "add new item" and going straight to edit form

One my PloneExternalFile Product I want to eliminate the "add new item" option. I want an index_html page to be the edit form. Is there a call that I need to do from the index_html that will go straight to the edit form? Thanks in Advance. -Laura

Is this the unusual approach? I wouldn't generalize. It all depends on what you are doing, and the style and background knowledge of the developers. If you are mainly interacting through web pages and forms, it makes sense to do it using page templates and scripts. Don't forget, though, that page templates themselves depend on the page template classes that run underneath. OTOH, I have written Zope applications that use external methods to invoke highly object-oriented code (you don't necessarily have to call out of Zope to do this, either). The nice thing is that you get a choice of how to go about it. Cheers, Tom P

So what is your question? I suggest using os.path functions to build up your paths rather than directly coding them as you have done. That way the paths port to other operating systems. performance stats

Hey guys, Split the transactions across 2 boxen. About 90-100 hits/sec but my transactions are just 10/s. <2 bozen, 2 cpu, 1gb ram, 1 zeo client and 1 zeo server each> Am calling off the tests sn. Man have I been there. I spent a bunch of time trying to understand why my (Plone) site was not getting cached properly. No matter what I did, performance was awful. There turned out to be several different issues all confusing each other. In my case, one of those issues turned out to be the fact that the accelerated HTTP cache manager had a line comment out of it in Zope 2.7.0 that caused me quite a bit of grief (see http://collector.zope.org/Zope/1345) That seemed to make a big difference for me (but I'm running Plone over Zope and Squid instead of Apache). strange ZClasses method name
