I'm trying to install Zope 2.7 on Debian. I'm using the following software: python 2.3.3 gnu make 3.80 gcc 3.3.3 I'm running the following configure command as a non-root user (tom): ./configure --prefix=/opt/Zope-2.7 The /opt/Zope-2.7 directory exists, with an owner and group of "tom". I don't get any errors when I run "configure". It says that I have the "optimum version of python". However, run I run "make" as user tom, I get hundreds of errors and warnings, and I finally end with the following error: error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 make: *** [build] Error 1 The errors seems to start the with the following line: gcc -pthread -fno-strict-aliasing -DNDEBUG -g -O3 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fPIC -I/tmp/Zope-2.7.0/lib/Components/ExtensionClass/src -I/usr/include/python2.3 -c AccessControl/cAccessControl.c -o /tmp/Zope-2.7.0/build-base/python-2.3/build-temp/AccessControl/cAccessControl.o This is the only time that gcc is called before the program crashes. Also, here are the last couple of lines that I get before make crashes (which look just like the 200 lines before them): AccessControl/cAccessControl.c:2237: error: initializer element is not constant AccessControl/cAccessControl.c:2237: error: (near initialization for `RestrictedDTMLMixinType.methods.link') AccessControl/cAccessControl.c:2237: error: initializer element is not constant AccessControl/cAccessControl.c:2237: error: (near initialization for `RestrictedDTMLMixinType.methods') error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 I found someone else who was getting the same errors online (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&forumid=18&thread…) However, this guy was trying to compile Zope 2.7 with python 2.3.1. I'm really stuck. Any help that I could get would be greatly apprecaited! Tom Purl

RE: [Zope] ZServer stops responding !? Help !?
by Jean-Francois.Doyon＠CCRS.NRCan.gc.ca 24 Apr '04

Oh and also, The CPU usage for the processes and threads is perfectly normal once everything stops responding, so it doesn't really look at one or mo thread might be stuck in a permanent loop of some kind. Also I don't really have anything that could risk causing cause an infinite loop anyways. There is no error message or traceback of any kind in the events log, and according to Z2.log, I don't see any pattern of a specific URL or object or type of call that might be causing this ... I'll keep an eye on that one though, could take a while to detect. There goes my week-end :( J.F. -----Original Message----- From: zope-bounces(a)zope.org To: zope(a)zope.org Sent: 24/04/2004 1:53 PM Subject: [Zope] ZServer stops responding !? Help !? G'day, I've got a rather bizarre but catastrophic problem. ZServer seems to stop responding. Sometimes it does so after days of running, sometimes after a few seconds or minutes of uptime. I know it's ZServer because I can talk to the monitoring port without problem. Also, the apache processes just pile up up to the limit allowed, suggesting the proxying is not getting replies from the downstream server. The strange thing is the cause seems to be occacional, or vary. For hours on end I can sit there and restart it, and within minutes it stops responding ... Then suddenly the problem "disappears", I restart it, and I wait .... and nothing happens, it just keeps running. Nothing else abnormal is going on the server so far as I can tell, there is very little memory swapped, and the CPU usage is not abnormally high. I used to have this problem very very rarely in the past, but since I upgraded to Zope 2.7, it seems to have gotten much worse :( I tried accesing the DebugPanel from the monitor, but can't seem to get it to do anything useful ... I don't know where else to look to find the cause of this. This causes serious uptime problem on our main, high traffic site, which is Very Bad. I'm on RedHat 7.3 (fully patched) Python 2.3.3 (custom compiled) Zope 2.7 CMF 1.4.x (I forget ... the latest!) Psycopg (Latest also) And a variety of other products. Thanks, J.F. _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

External Methods & Symbol Table & BioPython
by Cristian S. Rocha 23 Apr '04

23 Apr '04

Hello, I'm trying to use BioPython in an External Method but it return "ImportError: cannot import name FastaReader" (and others functions). I check some "tricks" but nothing change. Then I modify my external method to know what happening with the symbol table: The program: """ def SequenceRead(SequenceString): import StringIO import Bio.SeqIO.FASTA return vars(Bio.SeqIO.FASTA).keys() """ When I run it at command line the function return: """ ['Bio', 'string', 'Seq', 'FastaReader', '__builtins__', '__file__', 'SeqRecord', 'FastaWriter', '__name__', 'os', '__doc__'] """ That's ok. But When I run it in Zope the function return: """ ['Bio', 'string', 'Seq', '__builtins__', '__name__', '__file__', 'os', '__doc__'] """ The function lost the "FastaReader", "SeqRecord" and "FastaWriter" in the symbol table!!! What's wrong? Must I change something to change them to public functions? Thxs, Cristian. -- Lic. Cristian S. Rocha. <crocha(a)dc.uba.ar> Departamento de Computacin. FCEyN. UBA. Pabellon I. Cuarto 9. Exception handling and Site Error Log
by Tim Edwards 23 Apr '04

23 Apr '04

Hi, We have a lot of Python code in .py files run via External Methods for an application we are developing. I have a bit of a dilema about the exception handling. I find that if I catch exceptions in the External Methods (so that I can display a nice error page to the user) nothing is logged to the Site Error log. If I remove all try-exception blocks from the code any errors throw up the standard Zope error page and log to the Site Error Log. Is there a way to show the user a custom error page and still have the error logged to the Site Error Log? I'm sorry to hear about your problems. I can only think that you have a .forward file set up piping new messages into a script to send messages into MailManager. MailManager certainly cannot collect mail directly from a mail server itself if it is not present! BTW there is a mailing list specifically for MailManager; the address is mailmanager-users(a)lists.sourceforge.net. Up to date Zope documentation?
by Cormac McClean 23 Apr '04

23 Apr '04

Hi, I'm starting work on a Problem-Based Learning application based on Zope. I'm very impressed with Zope from what I've seen so far. However, now that I'm beginning development, I need up to date documentation. I have a copy of the Zope Book V2.6 pdf, but I'm wondering how useful it will be given that the current version of Zope is 2.7. Obviously old documentation is better than none at all, but will a more up to date version of the Zope Book be forthcoming, or will the move towards Zope 3 make this unlikely? Also, the Zope Developers Guide on zope.org is version 2.4. Am I right in thinking that this is a guide for Zope 2.4, rather than version 2.4 of the Guide? Perhaps the ZDG has been incorporated into versino 2.6 of the Zope Book? I have a similar question regarding the Zope Administrator's Guide Project. The project has stalled since Jan 2002, according to http://zope.org/DocProjects/AdminGuide/Project/FrontPage Are the necessary resources available as part of v2.6 of the Zope Book?
