Anyone out there to answer a newbie question? I would really appreciate it. Thanks! I'm trying out Zope with the Zope Book. I installed Zope 2.7 in Windows. I've created a simple hello.py containing a hello function: def hello( self, name="World" ): return "Hello, %s" % name This module is in D:\Zope-Instance\Extensions\. In Zope, I created a folder from root and add the hello external method to that folder. I clicked on the external method and then clicked on the Test tab, and instead of running the method, a window opened and ask if I wanted to download hello.txt. Installation issues (also Zserver vs. Apache)

I am just getting started with Zope and have run across the following installation issue. It appears that I have installed successfully, as I can bring up the manage screen on the server by typing http://192.168.0.5:8080/manage (where the 192, etc is the ip address of the local host). However, when I type that on any other system (ok there's only one) on the network, I get a 'page cannot be displayed message' after a long wait. The server is running red hat 3.2.3, Python 2.3 and Zope 2.7. The client that can't find the server is XP, with IE version 6.0... When my server is running apache, my client can find it just fine. However, based on what I've read, it would make more sense to run Zserver since the machine will be a dedicated zope box. Right? Thanks for your help. Mike

mailboxer+zope security question

I have a setup with two maillists on my Zope 2.7 setup and Mailboxer. One mailist is a straightforward, open-ended list that anyone can join; it's working w/out any problems. I'm trying to make the second list a secure one, where only specific users can join, receive e-mails from the list, and view the archives at the given site. I created a role for my "promoters" group, attached specific users to it, and then w/in zope, only limited "View" access to the maillist to this group. It works in that users authenticated against "promoters" can visit the site, but I can't send emails to the list: Apr 5 15:14:11 promoters mailboxer: problem occurred uploading email to server http://testme.org:8080/promoters/promoters/manage_mailboxer (HTTP Error 302: Moved Temporarily) Apr 5 15:14:11 testme postfix/local[6922]: 5C8E922834D: to=<openib-promoters(a)testme.org>, relay=local, delay=0, status=deferred (temporary failure) This is the entry from my aliases file: openib-promoters: "|/etc/postfix/smtp2zope.py http://testme.org:8080/promoters/promoters/manage_mailboxer 20000" Any suggestions...something I missed? Setting socket name

How do I change the the name of the socket which zope uses? I see a sample.conf in the zdaemon subdirectory but have no idea how it can be used. Can anyone suggest what needs to be done? -- John

Without trying to start any flamewar, I want to know which is the best solution for installing and running Zope. This server is behind a firewall and used for development only, so it will only be seen internally. I am trying to simplify the web update process for our departments, and I hope Zope is the answer. I know both operating systems rather well. It's between Redhat 9.2, Mandrake, and Windows 2000. Are there limitations as to each? is zope right for me?

Hi all - I'm very new to Zope(i.e. literally only hours) and like what I see so far but I'm still unsure if Zope(and add-on products thereto) is the solution I'm looking for. Specifically, I am a CIO of a franchise organization that has a network of 750 owner-operated locations around the US and Canada and what I want to be able to do is to give our owners the ability to create/update/manage their owner one page 'home page' which will 'hang off' our public site. The pages for all locations need to be within a standard template and we should be able to determine what our owner-operators can update/add on their pages. Also, some of the page content will need to be controlled dynamically by data within our existing franchise database(MSSQL). This dynamic data should not be able to be updated via the Zope interface. Above all, creating/updating the pages should be extremely(and I stress extremely) simplistic. Otherwise our users will not create/maintain their site. All this being said, is Zope my answer? Is a combination of Zope and Plone my answer? Zope and a combination of some other product(s)? Am I way off here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I go digging into the product myself.
