Here's what I think might be a really obvious thing I'm missing. The News portal_tab that you get by default seems to pull published news items out from inside members' individual folders. Can I do something similar and equally simple to get tabs for the other content types a user can create in their folders? Eg. I wanted one for links. Members create links in their own folders. I had to move them into a folder object I created at the root of the Plone site. Is there an easy way to replicate what the news tab does for specific content types so a user can publish an article in their own folder and I pull all of those out to list them via a portal_tab? Zope/Plone secure enough for the army?

Hi Zopers For a multi-national military project I have suggested using Plone as CMS and collaboration platform. However, I need to convince people that Zope/Plone is secure enough to prevent leaking of sensitive data. Is it possible to set up a publicly accessible Web server with Plone that contains public as well as private data neatly separated depending on login user and group? Even group members should not be able to see data of other groups unless explicitly permitted to do so. What is the best pattern of use? Are there good examples of similar deployments (NATO, NASA)? using ZTUtils['Tree']

Serving files directly from disk (new product)

We have a product which requires a few static files (images, flash movies, etc.). I checked out the related stuff available on zope.org, but they seem to have way too much functionality for our needs, so I created a small 'LocalFS like' thingie. It does nothing but serve files from the filesystem via www. Keep It Simple, Stupid. http://zope.org/Members/netchan/Stuff/ExternalFolder Regards, Sandor

Recently a windows machine from where I'm working for was hacked and some how this guy got a list of clear passwords. Unfortunatelly, I don't know how it was done because I'm not authorized to access this information. At least on linux the passwords are encrypted and it can't be decrypted, so, you have to try lots of times before you get a valid one. Another thing, which has already mentioned, things like ldap and ssl (if you want a secure ssl zope server), are difficult to install on windows. On linux you have a free C++ compiler, while on windows you have to pay for it. Perhaps you can use unix shell emulators, but performance is not the same as said on this mailing list. Hanging processes

Hey all. We use Zope at my company for an application server, and one of the main applications is web reporting on our business data. We are occasionally running into problems where a person will run a large report and hit the cancel button on the web browser due to impatience. This typically creates a process that starts using 100% CPU and will not go away if Zope is restarted. We have to grep for any python processes and kill them manually before starting Zope back up. Knowing users, they will sometimes do this a couple of times, totally bogging down the server and forcing a Zope restart. Now, my questions are, How hard could it be for Zope to a) kill any processes it is responsible for spawning? b) kill a process once it detects that its socket it was using for communication is dead? c) kill a process that runs for too long? (i thought it was supposed to do this already) I think a Control Panel application to show any Zope child processes with who started them, their running time/memory etc., and the option to terminate them would be nice. Of course that doesn't really help if Zope is un-responsive, but it could help a lot of times. Get caller context

Hi All I have a folderish python object that has a method. I want to be able to call this method using the context of the place I call it from and not the place where the method is. Example: ROOT -----/ myObject (has a python method named myMethod) -----/ folder ----/folderMethod (ZPT) I call myMethod of the myObject from the folderMethod of the folder object. I want to execute myMethod in the context of the folder object. I don't want to use REQUEST['HTTP_REFERER']. How can I identify the caller(referer) object of the myMethod? Thanks a lot, Dragos

Zope security question

Hi, I'm a fairly new Zope user and am trying to securely configure it. One thing I'd like to do, but haven't been able to find any info on, is to configure Zope so that it will only allow a user 3 failed login attempts. After this I'd like to be able to either deny them access or at least delay their access and have the event logged. Is this possible? I'm using Zope 2.7.0 on Red Hat.
