Newbie Q: Error creating LocalFS

Hi, I'm new hereabouts, and though I have found a few references to similar problems in the archives and so on, still nothing is working for me. I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this, or point me in a different direction. I am really new to Zope, so forgive me if I'm doing something really obvious, or perhaps impossible. I want to use ZServer as a DAV server to my users' OS filestores (/home/user - FreeBSD 5.2). In the root of my Zope (2.7) I add a folder called dav, and I point my virtualhostmonster at it as 'dav.domain.com/dav/' (but I'm not getting this far so that shouldn't matter). Then in the dav folder I create a Local File System object (downloaded today from http://zope.org/Members/SmileyChris/LocalFS_Patched/0.3) called 'username' with a base of '/home/username/dav/' (a directory I just created and gave my Zserver process user ownership of). And when I click 'Add', it all goes horribly wrong and I get the error: "Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. Resource not found Sorry, the requested resource does not exist. Check the URL and try again. Resource: __replaceable__ Troubleshooting Suggestions • The URL may be incorrect. • The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. • A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. For more detailed information about the error, please refer to error log. If the error persists please contact the site maintainer. Thank you for your patience." And from then on whenever I try to access the dav folder from the root I get a similar error. (Note, I tried adding the self.isAnObjectManager=1 test as detailed in a post of Thu Jan 8 12:26:24 EST 2004 to this list, but unless I have missed some step in editing a .py file, it hasn't had any effect) Help!!! hasattr in tal:condition

Dear Zopers Is it the case that it is not possible to make use of hasattr within a tal:condition statement? In a ZPT I need to test whether an attribute of here/request is set or not. Unfortunately, this raises an exception, which is exactly what I want to prevent... Adding an External Method

I have been following a worked example which shows how to add an External Method - something I have never done previously and it isn't working out as described in the article. Could someone suggest what is wrong? Thanks for the response. The reason for wanting to use ZRoundup is to have an instance of Zope in use in the organisation (which is a python shop). I'm particularly interested in seeing how far it's possible in Zope to separate the various elements of web apps in general - zpts have done it largely for the content side, and I'd like to have the app in python, with a Zope "front end", which was the model being shown here. So if I'm developing a python app for the web, I can put all the functionality in, say, the App class, and have a ZApp class as front-end which inherits all the functionality from App by subclassing, and itself only handles the Zope interface elements. The only fly-in-the-ointment I've found to date is that writing a Zope app with an RDBMS from scratch I'd probably want to use ZSQLMethods (as the framework handles them "naturally") and so the python App class has to know about it's frontend and the elegance goes away. Or maybe I'm approaching this Zope-with-SQL problem from the wrong end. What's your experience? Finally, the answer to your question as to why is: "learning, while broadening the general python and python-related base and expertise". Zope install

I'm attempting to install Zope 2.7.0 and it is getting copied to /usr/local/python/lib/python. --prefix is not set. Is this where I should expect it to be installed? Can someone give me an idea of the normal directory layout for this release? -- John

Well, the thing about duplicating HTML in a ZPT due to the condition handling isn't new ... I've had to do that duplication thing myself a few times, not very elegant, but a small price to pay for the coolness of ZPT's otherwise :) Using PythonScripts is one idea, but the more ZPT'ish way to go about this might be to use METAL macros ... In fact someday I'll have to go look at my code to see if that wouldn't make much more sense. One other option is to tal:define the result of the condition, and then use the variable to do further conditional testing in your body or span. But like you said, that could clutter the whole thing with lots of tests, in which case the duplication is actually more efficient logic-wise ... It really depens on how much your true/false HTML has in common ... Searching a FieldIndex by ZPT

Hi Zopers So, I finally managed to search a FieldIndex in my Catalog in Python like this: request = {'year_of_birth_index':{'query':[1000, 1500], 'range': 'minmax'}} obj = self.Catalog.search(request) print obj.__len__(), 'objects found' for i in range(obj.__len__()): print i , obj.__getitem__(i).title, obj.__getitem__(i).getObject().year_of_birth Now I want to do the exact same thing in ZPT, but get no results, why? <form action="index_report" method="get"> <table> <tr><th>Search Year of Birth</th> <td><input name="year_of_birth_index.query:record" width=30 value="1000, 1500"></td></tr> <input type="hidden" name="year_of_birth_index.range:record" value="minmax"> <tr><td colspan=2 align=center> <input type="SUBMIT" value="Submit Query"> </td></tr> </table> </form> Another detail: when I get results in the report form via "results here/Catalog" and put them in a batch, how do I get the total length of the results? problem with read only zope. Does not load some products (Archetypes)

Hi there, I am creating a CD with the copy of a site. The idea is, that the CD could be used in places where there is no internet access. No my problem is, that on of the products (Archetypes) is not initialized correctly at startup. And therefor all dependent products are not initialized neither. After Zope has been loaded, I can go to the control panel and load archetypes and the dependent products manually. Unfortunately this is not something I can ask the users "in the field" to do. Has anybody an Idea what I could do, to have Archetypes loaded the "official" way. thanks Robert
