importing pdflib_py
by Blossom Merz 23 Jan '04

Hey, there! I'm not really a newbie, but I seem to have gotten in over my head by trying to import pdflib_py to generate pdf files from inside a script. ( http://www.pdflib.com ) Here is the situation: my Zope site is hosted by an ISP who does not allow shell access. This makes developing external methods impossible. They are willing to install custom Products and such after reviewing the code. We've gotten as far as compiling and installing the pdflib_py.so so that Zope's python interpreter can access it. We've set up the allow_access('pdflib_py') stuff, but still get a Zope error: "from pdflib_py import *" is not allowed. According to an article from 2001, I now need to create a Product. (http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-pyzo.html) The Zope Book and Developer's Guide each go into the creation of Products. It feels like I've taken a wrong turn. I don't want a complete Product with the ability to add it through the ZMI. I just want to access the functions in a library from a zope script. Which way do I go next? Thanks! Blossom

doActionFor

Im having trouble auto-publishing objects. In the content_submit_form after checking that the object should be auto published i have these lines. <dtml-call "portal_workflow.doActionFor(this(), 'publish')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('view?portal_status_message=Status+changed+to+published')"> This works fine for "Manager" but if a "Member" tries to do it it generates an unauthorized() error message. I even put a proxy role of Manager on the content_submit_form script but i still get the error. How can i accomplish this? __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! "You don't need to be helped any longer. You've always had the power to go back to Kansas..." OK, so we don't need to make a custom Product or anything like that to use an external library in a Script. It's just a simple (!) matter of semantics. BAD: from pdflib_py import * GOOD: import pdflib_py or from pdflib_py import PDF_new, PDF_open_file, PDF_get_errmsg, [...] I guess the security machinery just wants to be sure that you know exactly what you're importing. Maybe they're trying to prevent name conflicts or something? Or maybe the external library won't give up its list of methods. Whatever. I'm back to work after my little visit to Oz. blossom

mail encoding problem
by Ronny Theunissen 23 Jan '04

23 Jan '04

I'm trying to send a mail from Zope (2.6.2b3 on RH9.0) containing latin-1 characters using the following script invocations: # external method to quopri.encodestring encode=container.encode_quotedprintable container.MailHost.send(encode(body),mto=toAd,mfrom=fromAd,subject=encode(subject),encode='quoted-printable') This works fine for the Yahoo mail-client, but Outlook filters out special characters in subject and body. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

I think I've tried all possible combinations, but no luck. if pages and script in the same folder -tal:content="python: here.validateForm1()- works. thanks. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Re: [Zope-dev] help me convert from j2ee to zope
by Chris Withers 22 Jan '04

Hi Ryan, The zope-dev list for the development OF zope, not WITH it, so I'm replying to the more appropriate zope(a)zope.org list... Ryan Boder wrote: > I would like to stop developing with JBoss and convert to Zope. Good for you ;-) > The majority of my code was in EJB's. So I am trying to create Zope products > to replace them. For example, how can I > get a reference to one object from another object within Zope? All objects are refered to by their paths in the ZODB. To get from one object to another, you may want to try: myobject.restrictedTraverse('/path/to/another/object') > the equivalent of a local interface in J2EE. So in > Zope if I have a non-persistent object as the XML-RPC published user > interface, how can I have it access persistent objects within Zope? This made no sense to me as a Zope developer, and it's YEARS since I did anything EJB'ish. I suggest you try and present the problem you're trying to solve, rather than trying to bash square JBoss concepts into a round Zope hole... > How can I create new objects programmatically in Zope? Depends on what type of code you want to create these objects in, what you want them to do, and what type of objects they are... > In J2EE I would get > get a home interface to a bean and then call a create method on it to create > the bean. I know how to create new objects using ZMI in Zope, but I need > objects to be created through remote calls from clients. For example if I > had objects that represent tasks in Zope, I need the clients to be able to > create and delete tasks. How do I do that? If you're doing everything as Python Products, then you write a construction method, usually called manage_addMyThing, import that where you want to create your object, and then use it: from MyProduct import manage_addMyThing ... manage_addMyThing(afolder,'new_id',...any other needed parameters...) > Are there any other gotchas that ex J2EE developers can tell me about > switching to Zope? Yeah, Zope is not J2EE. Trying to think in J2EE terms and make those concepts work in Zope will only lead to pain and suffering for you and anyone who tries to help you ;-) > I've read all the documentation I can find on the web site, I doubt that ;-) Zope Book? Zope Developers Guide? ALL the How-To's and examples? The website is difficult to navigate, and I apologise for that, but the stuff is on there... cheers, Chris

thanx for your reply, your reply made me test my script again . then, I realized I got problem when i used 'return' command. i test this script which outlines this problem : script: homeFolder = context for n in names_containers: h = str(context.ZopeTime().strftime('%S')) rep = '%s-new-%s' % (n,h) if not hasattr(homeFolder, rep): homeFolder.invokeFactory(type_name='Folder container', id=rep, title=n) return printed ... it runs well with Mozilla .... but .... the problem comes back with konqueror - when there is a return string, konqueror ask for openning a text viewing program which reposts the initial request again (if I click on 'Open' ) ! >On Tue, Jan 20, 2004 at 05:47:00PM +0100, francois wrote: >> hello, >> I got a problem with copy container support. >> I'm trying to use manage_copyObjects() and manage_pasteObjects() to migrate my >> old Zope member folders into new folders. >> I copied all content of the old folder, I created a new folder and I pasted >> the clipboard in. but my problem is, zope duplicate the object in the new >> folder : for example if i got a file object with 'zz' id in the first >> folder , Zope give me in the new folder : 'zz' .. and 'copy_of_zz'. > >That will happen if you run this script more than once. >I didn't spot anything wrong with it. > >-- > >Paul Winkler >http://www.slinkp.com >Look! SQLForms and DEC()
by Stephan Goeldi 22 Jan '04

22 Jan '04

I create a mysql table using SQLForms. Everything is fine, except one problem: I'd like to create a field as decimal(7,2). But in SQLForms I have only the choice of INT or FLOAT. When I try FLOAT, the input of e.g. 375.5 or 375,5 gives me this error message: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: not enough arguments; expected 3, got 2 The same I get if I create the table by hand using field type decimal(7,2). Does anybody know what the problem is?
