A persistent problem -- monkey patch related?
by Dennis Allison 24 Jan '04

24 Jan '04

I asked this question to the list a while back, but the responses I got were a bit off-point. Sad to say, the issue remains unresolved. I have made some extensive mods to UserFolder and installed them with a monkey patch. The monkey patch lives in the Products folder. The __init__().py associated with the folder imports User.py, defines the methods to be changed (e.g., foo(self) defined outside a class, then imports AccssControl and InitializeClass from Globals, assigns the new method to the associated old method name in UserFolder, and then calls InitializeClass. I chose this approach because it looked to have the least impact on the existing system, but now I am not so sure. I've been getting _p_oid errors when the OODB is backing out of a transaction. Dieter has opined that it's a Zope bug, but I am not so sure. I suspect that something I have done in the monkeypatch has triggered the problem. My patch code uses PersistentMapping() and expects that the system does the right thing with respect to persistence in the new methods even though they are patched in. Can anyone shed light on the issue: Is persistence inherited by monkey patched methods?

selecting tinytableplus to update by parameter
by John 24 Jan '04

24 Jan '04

Hi I'm new to zope/python and hope this is fairly easy - I want to update a TinyTablePlus table from a script. So the following will do what I want on the table 'igrid'. context.igrid.setRow(number=number,score=newscore) But how can I do this on different tables where the table is passed to the script as a parameter - instead of igrid I want to include the value of the parameter. thanks, John

Performance Degradation with SiteRoot
by Bill Etheredge 24 Jan '04

24 Jan '04

I have a Zope instance running behind Apache and am using Apache ProxyPass/Rewrite to split traffic between a Zope site (for dynamic content) and a non-Zope site (static content). I added a SiteRoot object in the root folder of my Zope instance to generate an appropriate URL to display to the user. My problem is that performance on the site took a nosedive when I installed the SiteRoot object in Zope. It is generating the URL correctly but the site is now painfully slow. Before installing SiteRoot, the performance was great. I have googled around and found some stuff about Apache and SiteRoot but have not found anything that addresses degradation in performance. Any suggestions or links to useful information on this problem? Thanks, Bill Etheredge The Mesa Group

Re: Ape Problems
by R. Sean Bowman 24 Jan '04

hi Bob, I don't know the answer to your problem, but here's what I did: - install Zope 2.7rc1 - install Ape (from http://hathaway.freezope.org/Software/Ape) - install ZWiki 0.26 - install LatexWiki 0.22 - change workDir to be basePath + '/var/LatexWiki/images' in LatexWiki/util.py (yuck) - put this in bottom of $INSTANCE_HOME/etc/zope.conf: %import Products.Ape <ape-db images> <ape-storage> mapper-variation filesystem <ape-fs-connection fs> basepath $INSTANCE/var/LatexWiki </ape-fs-connection> </ape-storage> mount-point /images scan-interval 10 </ape-db> - start zope - add a "ZODB Mount Point," check "Create new folders if ...", and create the mount point. - add a zwiki site, edit a page (using the ZWiki edit view, not the management one), put some LaTeX in it, and change the page type to "Structured Text + Latex". I think Zope 2.7 addresses some of the concerns you have about DBTab, the product that lets you mount databases through the management interface. It's included in Zope 2.7; you don't even need the dbtab.conf file. (You do have to edit zope.conf, though.) Sean

2.6.3/product/security/PageTemplateFile problem
by Siegmund Fuhringer 24 Jan '04

24 Jan '04

hi! i have a "small" problem with PageTemplateFiles i use in products. the problem is, that none of my products which worked fine under zope <= 2.6.2 are working under 2.6.3/2.7.0-rc1. i always get "You are not allowed to access '' in this context" when i try to access a PageTemplateFile, even if i declare them public. normal methods are still working correct. these are the lines, where the problem(s) must be: ... __roles__ = ( ) security = ClassSecurityInfo( ) security.setDefaultAccess( 'deny' ) ... security.declarePublic( 'index_html' ) index_html = PageTemplateFile( 'ZPT/index_html.zpt', globals( ) ) ... any idea what i'm doing wrong? thanx in advance - sifu

Form to text
by vivek singh 23 Jan '04

23 Jan '04

Hi all, I have a form where the users enter the entries as a name value pair. I have to save this info as text to be used later in a batch mode. I am new to Zope and python and i am having trouble figuring out how this can be done. I would highly appreciate if someone could send me some pointers or some sample code. So far i haven't been able to get anything useful from google. Thanks in advance, vikx __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Thanks again for the tip ... I am using a VHM. Although the tip didn't fix anything - however turning debug on sheds a little light ... maybe ... to those who know what they are looking at ... here is the dump of the debug run ... the interesting part is the database error at the very end, but I included it all in the event that I may not see the relevance of the rest of it ... ./runzope ------ 2004-01-21T14:13:05 INFO(0) ZServer HTTP server started at Wed Jan 21 14:13:05 2004 Hostname: myhost.com Port: 8080 ------ 2004-01-21T14:13:05 INFO(0) ZServer FTP server started at Wed Jan 21 14:13:05 2004 Hostname: myhost.com Port: 8021 ------ 2004-01-21T14:13:05 INFO(0) Zope Set effective user to "zopeuser" ------ 2004-01-21T14:13:06 INFO(0) Archetypes Products/Archetypes/content_driver/MSWord.py[20]:? Is it possible to create *non-persistent* publishable objects with product code? I'm finding Zope unwilling to publish a generic Python object.

REQUEST object
by Asad Habib 23 Jan '04

Hello. In my DTML document I set a temporary variable called 'price' to 0 using the following statement: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('priceNumber', 0)"> Then, I try to access this variable in my DTML method by using the following: <dtml-var "REQUEST.get('priceNumber')"> and 'None' is echoed. I have also tried printing the entire REQUEST object using the following: <dtml-var name="REQUEST"> and this variable is not found in the list of variables mentioned. The suprising part is that I have tried the same thing with another variable called 'degreeNumber' and everything works just fine. I don't think it's a naming issue since I have tried serveral other names. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. - Asad

Z Search Interface - generated ZPT pagination problem.
by Philip Kilner 23 Jan '04

Hi List, Done some googling on this - found the problem rehearsed, but not a solution. If I generate a Z Search interface, I get a page which uses a query string parameter like: - /mysearchresults?filter=value ...to paginate this, I need a URL like: - /mysearchresults?filter=value&start:int=10 However, the URL is called using URL0, which omits the query string, giving: - /mysearchresults?start:int=10 ...which fails, 'cos it needs that parameter! Am I missing something here? Is there a fix, or do I need to code around this? If so, what is the most elegant way to do so? -- Regards, PhilK Email: phil(a)xfr.co.uk / Voicemail & Facsimile: 07092 070518 “The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words.
