Import path for Shared_products
by Michael Havard 23 Jan '04

23 Jan '04

I'm using ZOPE/ZEO in a basic Instance_home scenario. I have all of my add-on products common between the instances in a shared_products directory. This seems to work well except now that i've added APE it seems to only be usable when installed to the software_home products directory. Likewise if I use ape to mount storage and use container_class="Products.CMFPlone.PloneFolder.PloneFolder" it fails to find the Plone folder unless CMFPlone is located in the software_home products directory. Am I missing some path statement? Should the path be "shared_products.whatever" or is there something else I should be doing that I'm not. _________________________________________________________________ High-speed usersbe more efficient online with the new MSN Premium Internet Software. http://join.msn.com/?pgmarket=en-us&page=byoa/prem&ST=1

OT: ZMySQLDA status
by Jim Kutter 23 Jan '04

23 Jan '04

Hi lads and ladies - I'm curious as to the status of the ZMySQLDA product. I've ran into the well documented bug regarding the server_capabilities attribute. However the (seemingly) latest version available on zope.org (via http://www.zope.org/Members/adustman/Products/ZMySQLDA) still has this problem. Is that not the proper place to get the product, or is it no longer actively maintained? -jim

Well Zope corporation has experience of tens gigabytes of data in FileStorage ( Data.fs ) in ZEO enviroment, so that shouldn't be the main issue. Larger issue is how fast your system will be for uplaoding and downloading the data from ZODB. Zope sucks big rocks in handling big files, so that might bring your system down or force you to bring in more machines into cluster - or move storing and serving large files outside ZODB. -- -huima

Zope 2.7.0RC1 - Special behaviour of the help system
by andre 23 Jan '04

23 Jan '04

Hello, Just after a fresh installation of windows binaries of 2.7.0rc1 running on windows XP as a windows service Without ANY modifications i got the strange behaviour described below. I first tried to read Zcatalog's help. All links are of the form below http://localhost:8080/Control_Panel/Products/ZCatalog/Help/THE_DOCUMENT/man… so wheni click on a link Zcatalog Product's properties are displayed. Here is a list of available documents in http://localhost:8080/Control_Panel/Products/ZCatalog/Help/. Vocabulary.py (Vocabulary) Vocabulary.stx (Vocabulary ) Vocabulary_Query.stx (Vocabulary - Query) Vocabulary_Vocabulary.stx (Vocabulary - Vocabulary) ZCatalog.py (ZCatalog) ZCatalog.stx (ZCatalog) ZCatalog_Add.stx (ZCatalog - Add) ZCatalog_Advanced.stx (ZCatalog - Advanced) ZCatalog_Cataloged-Objects.stx (ZCatalog - Cataloged Objects) ZCatalog_Find-Items-to-ZCatalog.stx (ZCatalog - Find Items to ZCatalog) ZCatalog_Indexes.stx (ZCatalog - Indexes) ZCatalog_MetaData-Table.stx (ZCatalog - MetaData Table) ZCatalog_Parameters.stx (ZCatalog - searchResults) ZCatalog_Status.stx (ZCatalog - Status) When using Zope help System, it seems that many links points to .py files (ie AccessControl.py instead of AccessControl.stx) so the login box is displayed and i received an error "you are not allowed to acces this resource in this context". that's normal i guess because a python script is called. But i can reach some of them Here are the the links with problems In http://localhost:8080/Control_Panel/Products/PythonScripts/Help =================================================================== wrong ones ======== PythonScript.py Script.py standard.py in http://localhost:8080/Control_Panel/Products/OFSP/Help/ correct ones ============ math.py random.py string.py Note that there is always a py extension. The problem is only in API reference item of PtyhonScripts and ZopeHelp André

ANN: eGenix mxODBC Zope Database Adapter 1.0.8
by mal 23 Jan '04

23 Jan '04

________________________________________________________________________ ANNOUNCEMENT EGENIX.COM mxODBC Zope Database Adapter Version 1.0.8 Available for Zope 2.3 through 2.7 on Windows, Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD ________________________________________________________________________ INTRODUCTION The eGenix mxODBC Zope Database Adapter (Zope DA) allows you to easily connect your Zope installation to just about any database backend on the market today, giving you the reliability of the commercially supported eGenix.com product mxODBC and the flexibility of the ODBC standard as middle-tier architecture. Unlike Zope's ZODBC Zope DA, the mxODBC Zope DA works on Windows XP/NT/2000/98, Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD using the same interface on all platforms. The mxODBC Zope DA implements high performance thread-safe connection pooling and multiple physical connects per logical Zope connection. You can safely run Z SQL Methods in parallel, achieving a much better throughput than ZODBC Zope DA or similar Zope database adapters under heavy load. This makes it ideal for deployment in ZEO Clusters and Zope hosting environments where stability and high performance are a top priority. ________________________________________________________________________ FEATURES * Zope Level 3 Database Adapter: the mxODBC Zope DA is fully multi-threaded and can handle multiple connections to multiple databases. * Fully compatible to Z SQL Methods. * Drop-in compatible to the ZODBC DA: the mxODBC Zope DA provides the same interfaces as Zope's ZODBC DA to allow a smooth upgrade path from this simplistic adapater to the high performance mxODBC Zope DA. * Fully compatible to the Znolk SQL Wizard Product and other similar products relying on the common database schema access methods .tables() and .columns(). * Connection Pooling: physical database connections are pooled and kept open, to reduce the connection overhead to a minimum. This is especially important for high latency database connections and ones like Oracle which take a considerable amount of time to setup * Parallel Execution of Queries on a single logical connection: the mxODBC Zope DA can manage any number of physical connections on a single logical connection. This enables running truly parallel Z SQL Method queries -- a feature not available in other Zope DAs. * Robust Mode of Operation: connections which have timed out or go away due to network problems are automatically reconnected. * Cross-platform Connection Objects: The Zope DA will automatically choose the right platform specific ODBC manager for you. * Per Connection Adjustable ODBC Interface: mxODBC comes with many different subpackages to choose from on Unix. The Zope DA allows you to select these subpackages on a per-connection basis. * Per Connection Error Handling: you can tell each connection whether it should report ODBC warnings or not; furthermore all warnings and errors are made available as list .messages on the DatabaseConnection object. * Transaction safe automatic reconnect: when the DA finds that a connection has timed out, it automatically tries a reconnect and replays the transaction on the connection (unlike other DAs which break the transaction scheme by doing a reconnect without replay). * Built-in Schema Cache: this results in improved performance under heavy load. * Database Schema Access: all ODBC catalog methods are made available for much better database schema inquiry. The catalog methods allow building generic database interrogation or manipulation tools and facilitates writing database independent Zope products. * Lazy Connect: the mxODBC Zope DA only connects to the database backends when a connection is actually requested. This results in a better use of resources compared to other Zope DAs. ________________________________________________________________________ NEWS Version 1.0.8 includes the following changes and enhancements: * Zope 2.7.0 and Python 2.3 are fully supported on all platforms: Windows, Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD. * You can let the mxODBC Zope DA return empty strings instead of None for SQL NULL values. This should simplify porting existing applications to the mxODBC Zope DA. * The included mxODBC 2.1 provides full Unicode support if accessed directly. Using e.g. the EasySoft ODBC-ODBC bridge this allows you to connect to any remote Unicode aware ODBC backend from any of the supported platforms. In short: mxODBC Zope DA is continuing to become the number one solution for integrating relational databases with Zope applications. ________________________________________________________________________ UPGRADING If you have already bought mxODBC Zope DA licenses, you can use these license for the updated version as well. There is no need to buy new licenses. The same is true for evaluation license users. ________________________________________________________________________ MORE INFORMATION For more information on the mxODBC Zope DA, licensing and download instructions, please visit our web-site: http://zope.egenix.com/ You can buy mxODBC Zope DA licenses online from the eGenix.com shop at: http://shop.egenix.com/ ________________________________________________________________________ Thank you, -- Marc-Andre Lemburg eGenix.com Professional Python Services directly from the Source (#1, Jan 23 2004) >>> Python/Zope Consulting and Support ... http://www.egenix.com/ >>> mxODBC.Zope.Database.Adapter ... http://zope.egenix.com/ >>> mxODBC, mxDateTime, mxTextTools ... http://python.egenix.com/ ________________________________________________________________________ ::: Try mxODBC.Zope.DA for Windows,Linux,Solaris,FreeBSD for free ! ::::

If it doesn't it will get acquired from the context (probably the folder above in your case) and the file gets created there. Does LocalFS support adding files from the Zope side? Perhaps it has its own API different from manage_addFile? If it doesn't, you could just write a simple external method which created the file in the proper place directly. Something like: import os.path def writeFile(filename, data): open(os.path.join('/path/to/localfs/dir', filename), 'wb').write(data) Obviously you'd want to make sure you secure the external method so it is not directly callable through the web by everyone. > Any help would be appreciated > > IS APE ready for production use? You don't so long as you don't need to pass any explicit arguments. If you did, then you would need a python expression. In general to convert a path expression to a python expr, just add python: to the front, change the slashes to dots and add parenthesis if you are calling something. -Casey

traveese_subpath
by nwingfield＠che-llp.com 23 Jan '04

I am writing a custom product and would like to make use of the URL string to do some cool stuff. When writing a "Python Script" there is a handy variable called traverse_subpath that contains the elements of the URL to the right of the name of the script itself. However, Zope tends to raise an exception when I attempt this technique with other types of objects, namely the objects created with my custom product code. For example: http://www.mysite.com/myPythonScript/extra/stuff works fine, and I have access to a handy list like ['extra', 'stuff'] http://www.mysite.com/myCustomObject/extra/stuff raises an error, something like: Zope has encountered a problem publishing your object. Is there a quick trick to incorporate traverse_subpath functionality into my product? Thanks!

Undo Python Script
by Marco Mans 23 Jan '04

23 Jan '04

Hello Zopers! I'm currently writing a script that adds some ExtFiles and then execute an external method. Here's the script [Script1]: context.data['0002']['folder1'].manage_addProduct['ExtFile'].manage_addE xtFile(id='1', title='file1', file=file1) context.data['0002']['folder1'].manage_addProduct['ExtFile'].manage_addE xtFile(id='2', title='file2', file=file2) context.data['0002']['folder1'].manage_addProduct['ExtFile'].manage_addE xtFile(id='3', title='file3', file=file3) context.runExternalMethod(params) return 'OK' When the external method causes NO errors, the Extfiles are made. But when the Extrenal method causes an error, zope shows up the standard_error_message and the ExtFiles are not made..... I then executed the script from another script [Script2]: try: context.Script1() except: return 'ERROR' else: return 'OK!' When Script1 causes an error (from the extrernal method) the extfiles are made. Zope shows 'ERROR'. Why does this happen. When I execute Script1 from Script2 without try-except the extfiles are not made when the script causes an error... What must i add to undo all actions made in Script1? Thanks for the support! Marco.
